The Pentultimate Shamanic Drumming CD.......2007-05-27
This is the only shamanic drumming CD you will ever need to own. The drumming is the best there is; you will never hear or work with better. Dr. Harner's work here is spectacular.
With the masterful use of a classic hoop drum and beater, a most precise, monmotonous beat is sustained for a 15- and then 30-minute shamanic journeys. This drumming helps the journeyer to achieve a core-shamanic shamanic state of consciousness. There are two versions of the drumming sessions on the CD -- single and double drumming.
I have used it exclusively for 10 years, and while I appreciate other offerings from other organizations and teachers (and because I have been a full-time shamanic practitioner for 10 years, I have road tested all of them), there is no question that this Foundation for Shamanic Studies (FSS) CD is the finest available. It is the only CD I allow my students to use when they are working with me in classes of 20 or 1.
Plus by buying it, you are supporting the Foundation for Shamanic Services, a nonprofit organization, whose decades of service have been devoted to supporting shamanism globally. So in addition to having the best drumming available, you will also be furthering FSS research, educational programs, and the vital support of living indigenous shamans.
Riding the drum.......2007-05-16
I've used this CD for almost a decade for journeying. It's simplistic and gentle, and a wonderful beacon to other worlds.
Excellent consistency with beat and call back........2007-05-15
I do a lot of journeys in the Shamanic work I am doing. Of course, live drumming can't be beat, but this is the next best thing. The consistency with the beat keeps my journey connected and I can really go deep. The double drumming is done seamlessly. Of great importance is having a call back signal that you can rely on to wrap up your journey properly, and all of Harner's Shamanic Journey CD's do this.
Drums and Drumming.......2007-05-12
I've been using Michael Harner's drumming tapes since the early 1980s, and still find them to be the best available. I especially like the double drumming and use it almost exclusively when I am not drumming for myself. To be honest, I prefer to drum for myself, but on those days when I don't feel up to it, or I want the deeper sound of double drumming (which I have not figured out how to do for myself...yet)I always rely on the double drumming tape/CD from the FSS. When working with clients and I want the background soundscape to be soft drumming and I can't do it myself, I always put the drumming tape/CD on the speakers. It facilitates my own work as a practitioner and the client benefits from the ASC created by listening to it.
Great!.......2007-05-12
I have used this CD numerous times for the Shamanic journeys that I do when working with clients and have found it to be great. The pace of the drumming works well for me and the option of two different lengths (15 and 30 minutes) before the callback begins is a great feature.

Album Description
Album Description Consciousness-altering rhythms for shamanic journeying, meditation or dreaming.
This recording has been digitally recorded and mastered to produce the richest acoustic depth and full tonal range necessary to alter consciousness for the purpose of making shamanic journeys.
The type of insistent, rapid drumming found on this recording can provide support for shifting consciousness. When shamans journey to the spirit realm, they enter a trance-like state of consciousness. In this trance state, the brain generates theta waves which are characterized by a 4 cycle-per-minute pattern. Research into altered states have determined that the deepest states of shamanic consciousness may be accessed by listening to rhythmic drumming of 4-beats-per-second because these rhythms replicate the natural theta state.
Step-by-step instructions for making successful shamanic journeys, using this method, are explained in Evelyn C. Rysdyk's book, Modern Shamanic Living. (It is strongly suggested that persons with no prior journey experience read this book first!) The sonic-supported journey technique, pioneered by anthropologist Dr. Michael Harner, provides an opportunity for ordinary people to access the realms of spirit in a very safe manner.
For best results, listen to this recording while wearing headphones. To make shorter journeys than the full CD length, skip to the call-back track when you feel ready to return.

GREAT VIBS.......2007-04-22
When you don't go out with your rattle, and you are needing to meet with your animal totem, this CD does the job.
So this is Shamanic Drumming ..........2006-07-10
This is an interesting review to write - this CD does exactly what it says on the title, which is to induce a deep trance by the use of a single rhythm drum pattern, for shamanic journeys.
However, if you are looking for interesting ethnic drum beats or examples of native American drums, you won't find them here, because the entire CD, apart from two tracks at the beginning and the end which are each less than 2 minute in length, is one single drum pattern of four beats per second which repeats for nearly an hour.
If you want a shamanic trance, this product will deliver; but don't buy this if you want to be entertained!
Excellent drumming music for Shamanic Journeying.......2006-06-24
This is the best CD I have found so far for doing shamanic journeying to recorded drumming. There are just 3 tracks - inviting the spirits, the journey drumming, and a call back at the end. I loaded it onto my iPod and it works very well for me.
I found the sound quality to be excellent, crisp and clear, and the energy in the sound to be amazing. It really "does the job" and provides the horse to ride for the journey. A friend of mine had an incredible first journey just from using this recording. I also use it as a background when I am doing my own drumming, to assist and provide me with a "backup group."
Note: this is not a "musical" CD, and not just for listening to!
It's the real deal........2004-09-07
I've listened to this CD and it has lived up to its purpose, and then some. Deep trance is the name of this game. Heavily so. If you are open, it is quite a powerfull tool.
Excellent!.......2004-06-16
First I must say that if you are looking for entertaining music or drumming, look elsewhere; that's not the purpose of this CD. Additionally, listening to a shamanic drumming CD does not make an instant shaman out of anyone; if you are expecting this CD to transform your abilities, you are mistaken. Drumming is intended to promote trance induction, but it won't do you much good if you don't put yourself in the right mindset to trance or know what to do once you begin to trance.
That being said, this is a good shamanic drumming CD for people who already do trance work or who are exploring it for the first time under the preparation and/or guidance of someone who knows what they are doing. The drumming is a good speed and lasts long enough for a good trance session, and rattles accompany the drumming appropriately. Callback is also effective.

Repetition in a truly fascinating way...........2007-05-17
Originally released in 1973, this version is the re-released updated version of the seminal work of composer and minimalist "Steve Reich". Taking the central theme and idea of drumming and using rhythmic arrangements that owe a heavy debt to minimalist" or "trance" music at its best; rhythmic and melodic, using a variety of performers and percussionists, to bring these compositions to life, it's like a lengthy composition that ebbs and flows, and hits with tightly woven passages of sound, with subtle variations, which fall perfectly into line, and then gradually begin to fall out of synch, but done in such a slight and streamlined way, that you tend not to notice of the first few listens, and it's only subsequent gradual listens, that begin to unearth the intricacy of the music.
It's a sound that is minimal in its aesthetic...yet the deceptive almost trance-like nature of the sound, revel an undulating undercurrent to the music, that given the right conditions to truly appreciate the music, can be as intense and powerful as that of dynamic rock music. It strangely boundless, and unconcerned with similarly derived music, yet it can on occasion feel warm and organic, this is partly due to Reich's brilliance as a composer...which revels him to be determined, and single-minded in his approach, and seemingly able to give his arrangement a transitional sound, which gives way to an almost muscular and propulsive sound.
It's repetition, defined in the best possibly sense, and arguably those not familiar with Reich's work, may well find this tough going, as there are no vocal accompaniments to latch onto.....or any dramatic shifts in approach to change the mood, or even any real surprising U-turns to prepare for. Instead what you get is a subtly shifting music, heavy in texture and surprisingly thick in complexity, whereby melodies are challenging, with everything taking on a more Cerebral and hypnotic, near-clinical arrangement. It's epic listening, with no patience for people that like their music which is short and easily digestible. And instead these are long passages of resonating music, harmonically repeated and spread out over great lengths, allowing the listener to submerge themselves in the music, which will eventually mutate into fluid, linear songs.
I'll admit straight away, that I'm no Reich expert, I love his work...and I have several of his albums, which I enjoy greatly, but I'm a novice as far as his work is concerned (although I'm willing to learn), and for a casual listeners standpoint, I'd have to say that this is not only one of my favourite Reich pieces (along with "Music for 18 Musicians"), but possibly one of his more accessible pieces. It's a remarkable piece of work, and so long as your prepared to try and truly appreciate, what's going here....this is truly sublime stuff, and a whole hearted recommendation, for those unsure of where to start with Reich's work. Tremendous!!!
Quite enjoyable.......2007-01-11
The music brings back memories of West African drumming but is more familiar to the American ear.
Back to Basics.......2007-01-10
Back in the mid-80s when Reich, Glass, Adams, Riley, and Nyman moved from fringe to big time, they all got commissions from larger ensembles. I thought Reich's work was best of all. The thrill of Reich's propulsive beat under long serene (or ominous) tones was enormous. I must admit, though, that he seemed to hit a wall sometime soon after THE DESERT MUSIC and VERMONT COUNTERPOINT. Several "counterpoint" pieces for other instruments followed the same template. Ditto, new pieces echoed DESERT MUSIC, beginning even with the same chord.
This new recording of DRUMMING (the only one I've heard) reminds me why I loved Reich in the first place. At first, it's audaciously simple to the point that a casual listener would call idiotic. Very gradually, with incredible precision and patience, the ensemble gradually shifts out of synch, then starts filling in spaces. Eventually (but not for a long time!) Reich brings in variety with tones and different timbres.
It's dry and clean, it's virtuosic and athletic (what stamina and concentration they must have!), and it's fun.
A philosophical work.......2006-02-19
I first heard "Drumming" on my car radio (of all places, of course it was probably WBAI-FM in New York) when it first came out in the early seventies. I pulled over to the side of the road to listen, so hypnotic was its rhythm. I have the original three-LP Deutch Grammophone version (the third disk contains two other pieces), which I put on tonight for the first time in many years, and came here to Amazon in hopes of finding a DVD-based version that would play straight through without interruption. (I guess that's still in the future.)
What "Drumming" has always conjured up for me are images from fractal geometry, chaos theory, and evolution - it asserts that the human being is the product of inevitable processes of differentiation and elaboration, as subtle phase shifts produce beat frequencies and harmonics, starting with a simple syncopated drumbeat, and calling forth the existence of marimbas, flutes, glockenspeils, and eventually the human voice, in order to reach its final expression.
I'm not usually a fan of classical music - jazz is my thing, since it expresses human individuality and group cooperation with a blues-based scale that's a *harmonic* syncopation - but "Drumming" transcends musical categories. As Duke Ellington always said, there are only two kinds of music: good music and bad music.
Amazing, absolutely amazing.......2005-12-20
I could blather on about this album for a good while and since the other reviewers take you into a more in depth analysis of such an extraordinary album I'll just say this venture into minimalism is incredibly relaxing. While listening to it subconciously you seem to pick out tunes even when it sounds to be incredibly cluttered. Gradually if you're still listening by the time you pop the second CD, it becomes less aggressive, less cluttered and more peaceful, calming, tranquil and then picks the pace up yet again but still sound somewhat slightly different all the time. It's a sheer masterclass of beauty. I hate using words like that normally because it usually makes you sound like a pompous fool but this however deserves the term. It's quite simply astonishing and if you feel overly frustrated or exhausted with your life, this could prove to be the perfect tonic for those with an open mind towards music. It's a pure aural pleasure. Surrender subconsciously and the rewards are great!

Album Description
A Continuous Drumming Atmosphere.
Stimulating Support For Journeying
With Gentle Call Back.
The compelling consciousness altering sounds on this CD are woven into an enticing rhythm produced by four traditionally crafted drums, a traditional ceremonial deer toe rattle, the resonant singing of two crystal bowls activated only by the sounds of the drums, and the distant whispering of an ancient calling chant.
These haunting sounds heighten your state of consciousness and allow you to easily move into the deep state of trance that is utilized in spirit journeying and other ceremonies and to hold this level of consciousness for as long as you choose.
Four widely toned single headed drums from the Native American traditions are used to create the resonate, energy stimulating harmonics complete with their own dynamic overtones and undertones. The rattle, too, is designed to alter consciousness.
Created in the ancient ceremonial tradition it generates harmonics within a specific range of frequencies that stimulate the human electromagnetic field and allow it to increase in intensity, thus shifting your state of awareness into conscious trance.
The voice bringing the ancient chanting from our ancestors further enhances and holds your trance and sends a request to all of Creation to help you understand and live in the beauty and joy of your Song: to fully live the truth of who you are.
The large crystal prayer bowls were present in the room as we recorded and began to resonate and sing with the drums of their own accord. They were never struck or sounded in any other way.
In the tradition of Domano and Chea Hetaka of the central eastern Andes spirit journey ceremonies are used to travel to different physical locations as well as to the many worlds of the spirits in order to encounter teachers and helpers, to learn how to better help others, and to gain greater understanding and healing within ourselves. The drumming and other sounds are an integral part of the ceremonies and are said to carry you: they become your sacred vehicle into the realms of the unknown.
Customer Reviews:
A Major Disappointment.......2005-10-13
I'm a musician (singer/songwriter/guitar player), and I bought this CD based on two reviews which sounded very appealing. I was expecting to hear clear chanting behind the drums but could barely make out any chanting at all except perhaps for some very vague, and low-volume background noise. With the exception of the "Call Back" at the very end of the CD, the drumming for the most part retains the same beat for the entire length of the CD which is okay at first but becomes quite monotonous. As far as I know, they could have drummed for two minutes and then simply created a continuous loop. I wish I could get all of my money back on this one but fear that I will have to pay for return postage. What a disappointment.
Conveniently designed and very useable.......2005-10-10
I very much like the way that I can choose the length of the session. I like the rattles and other harmonics of the drumming. Wish I knew what the words to the singing are though so I could sing along, and this aspect seems to have provoked some of the hostile reviews which thought it was spooky. I do not find it at all spooky, actually it is very comforting. I am grateful to have such a useful tool for journeying.
A superb vehicle for drumming journeys.......2004-05-15
I have been a sojourner on the inner spirit pathway for more than 40 years, and have met many teachers and learned to use many tools. I am familiar with all Kay Cordell Whitaker's CDs, as well as with her two wonderful books, *The Reluctant Shaman* and *Sacred Link*, wherein she tells the story of her training with the Amazonian shamans who taught her, and shares some of their teachings. I have also attended some of her personal training sessions. She is not conveniently located for me; otherwise I would do more face-to-face training with her. She has developed a high level of expertise and is an excellent teacher and healer and a wonderful, lively, glowing person. For those who are unable to attend her private workshops, and for those who want to repeat for themselves some of the processes they have used in live trainings, Kay has graciously made some of her basic guided journeys available on CD. I am familiar with and have used them all, with excellent results. Mostly, I have used and continue to use *Drumming to Journey By*, because it is just that--drumming to journey by--and nothing more. It is not a guided process. It is a vehicle, a superb vehicle, which I have used to facilitate a great many inner journeys over the past several years. It takes me where I want to go, if I know that in advance, and sometimes takes me to surprising and wonderful places I could not have imagined in my normal waking state. I have never found a better mode of transportation along inner pathways and to such destinations. I have never failed to make a safe and successful journey when I have set out to make one using this CD, and unlike any other drumming tape I have come across, it lets me choose the length of the journey beforehand so that I don't have to cling to consciousness so I can rise up and punch a button to skip to a callback when I need to return to this reality sooner than the full length of the CD. I safely can go as deep and as far as I like, knowing that the callback will come as I have programmed it to do before setting out on my journey. Its moderate pace allows me to float along and pushes me gently onward without making me rush on in a frenzy. The very rapid beat of many common drumming CDs doesn't suit me at all. *Drumming to Journey By* is the best. The low chant in the background is a mite distracting when I use headphones, as it holds my attention, but I can effectively tune it out by reducing the volume so as to make it unnoticeable. It doesn't impair or impede the success of my journey.
When I read the review here written by moomintroll2000, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry. On the one hand, what he describes is so alien to my experience with this drumming CD that it appears to be a spoof and a very funny one. One the other hand, taking it seriously, it is sad that potential beneficiaries of this wonderful tool might be put off by his bitter diatribe. But even sadder is his apparently real fear and the negativity it has caused to wash over his experience of this superb drumming. I scanned through moomintroll2000s prior reviews. He is a rather prolific reviewer and his tastes are certainly eclectic. Many of his reviews are negative. I can understand his wanting to know what the chant is about. I wanted to know, too. So I asked. I dropped an e-mail note to Kay and her husband-partner Helmut, and they answered right back. Their website, www.worldbalance.com has contact information as well as lots of interesting information about Kay's work. Kay and Helmut are completely approachable. If you want to know anything about the tapes or the books or the workshops, just ask. Don't jump into negative assumptions like poor moomintroll2000 did then poison the thinking of others who might want to use the tool. I strongly recommend that moomintroll2000 contact the Whitakers and attend Kay's basic training workshop if at all possible. I have never met more kindly, dedicated and helpful spiritual teachers than these. I understand and respect that because of his own fears and lack of understanding of the process, moomintroll2000 had an experience that he does not care to repeat, but I cannot state too strongly, that such was not the fault of the vehicle he chose. There is great good to be gained through use of all the CDs in this series. I hope moomintroll2000 will make further efforts to avail himself of these benefits, after taking appropriate steps to assuage his fear and other concerns by contacting the producers of the CDs. I further hope that his sour review will not deter others from taking many wonderful journeys using this excellent drumming CD.
No ulterior motives: just makes me feel creepy.......2004-01-20
What sets this cd apart from other drumming cds is that it combines the sounds of drums and rattles with a constant background incantation. I think amazon customers should be aware of this feature. You just can't avoid noticing it, it is always there.
No matter how excellent the motives behind the production of this album and the real nature of the chant(see review below), about which there is unfortunately no detailed explanation in the thin booklet accompanying the cd, there remains that this background incantation just makes ME feel CREEPY because of its EERIE sound and I don't think I am specially superstitious although I do oppose amateurish witchcraft and inconsiderate meddling with the demonic.
Another thing I didn't like about this cd is the sound of the drums themselves, which I find "metallic" and "hard"(sorry for using metaphors, I wish I were a drummer or a drum maker and could tell you the subtle nuances in sound between different drums). It reminds me of the shrill sound of a synthesizer.
I want to emphasize that I am not accusing the artists of using synthesizers or of invoking bad spirits. This is simply the way I experienced the music and atmosphere of this cd. If you like a rather "dark" and "ghostly" drumming atmosphere, go for this album! I am sure there are lots of people who like such things since Western society is awash in demonic and horror iconography and music anyway but there are other people who need a less lugubrious atmosphere for their inner journey and it is for them that I am speaking.
For you (fortunately Kay Whitaker doesn't have a monopoly on good drumming cds!)I recommend "Sacred drums" by Laura Chandler (which has different rhythms with a different number of drums playing at the same time) and "Shamanic Journey Drumming" by Evelyn Rysdyk (one and the same rhythm by the same number of drums throughout the whole cd). These are what I would call "solar" drumming cds, as opposed to this "chtonic" one. These albums will at the very least give you a lot of energy and optimism even if they fail to take you to those fabulous astral realms Robert Moss et al are talking about in their books and sessions.
Finally, I don't believe that being a primitive or premodern people means that you are necessarily on the right spiritual track. People do get cheated by spirits no matter how close they live to Mother Nature (on this point read the fascinating "Path of the White Clouds" by Lama Anagarika Govinda, available on amazon.uk). See how the Aztecs, in many respects a most cultured and refined people, were enticed to do horrendous things by their bloodthirsty "gods".So even if the incantation sung on this cd comes from an aboriginal tribe, I have a perfect right to question its nature, as well as its relevance to and effect on a modern Westerner living a tortured city life.
For people who don't know how to use a drumming cd, amazon offers Modern Shamanic Living by Rysdyk, The Shamanic Drum: A Guide to Sacred Drumming by Michael Drake and The Journey to the Sacred garden by Henry Barnard Wesselman. I haven't read these books but I know they explain how to use the sound of drums for soul journeys.
My Reaction To Suspicious Review.......2004-01-08
How anybody can write a review like moumine2003 about this drumming CD is a mystery to me. The only explanation I have would be that this person has ulterior motives. I have worked with this CD and all other materials from the creator of this CD for many years and to even think that she would create something that could even remotely invoke spirits from a not favorable sort is preposterous. I don't expect everyone to adore this CD, but I am absolutely appalled at what moumine2003 writes. Kay Whitaker has had a great deal of clients who actually were dealing with less favorable spirit beings in their lives and she was the only one they could receive help from. After years of uncertainty of what was going on in their lives Kay could actually see these spirits beings and provide help to free them and the person.
I have been part of the creation of this CD and unlike many other drumming CDs this actually has real drumming without synthesizers.
The background chant is from an ancient culture and time long before the concept of "lower, middle and upper worlds" was adopted into some tribal beliefs and of course long before that concept was popularized in the western world. The chant is presented in its original ancient language and has no reference in word or thought to the tri-world concept. The chant is said to "be spoken by the Goddess herself" (a goddess somewhat similar to Auset of Egypt) and hold the magic and beauty of the truth of who we are and where we came from. The "Goddess" calls us to the experience of our own Song, our own beingness. The implication that it could attract possessive thoughtforms or spirit beings is an insult not only to Kay's work, but to this entire ancient culture and can only come from utter ignorance or as I said before ulterior motives. Kay has dedicated her life to providing tools for people to truly and fully wake up - it is very likely that is not moumine2003's purpose in this lifetime.
This drumming CD as well is Kay Whitaker's latest "Amazon Drumming To Journey By" are the only two CDs for spirit journeying that carry you safely through your journeys and explorations, unlike most others which I always had the feeling of being chased through my experiences. The slower beat was used by Kay's teachers, whose culture is based on matriarchal principals, for eons long before the fast beat became popular in the western world. It has been the only speed they have always used in any of their ceremonies.
Don't be fooled by people who have no understanding of the intricacies of these ancient spiritual practices. Kay Whitaker has studied for more than 20 years before she even thought about teaching other people or creating material such as this CD and as far as I can tell her work and material are unmatched and absolutely impeccable in quality and intent.

Customer Reviews:
cheezy.......2007-07-13
i give this cd one star for the drumming being adequate. the rest is very synthesized and just not enough for me. i think the drums might be the only "real" instrument on the album. the rest is cheesy synthesizer stuff. i was dissapointed.
A Musical Delight!.......2006-10-19
This CD is a wonderful, wonderful fusion of Middle Eastern & contemporary musical themes--with an accent on the Middle Eastern. It is smooth, pulsating, seductive, pleasurable, spiritual--and you can't help but move to it. Beneath the Veil is a paen of the feminine principle, without being feminist. It is New Age without being boring. I listen to it so often it has almost become a background musical screen in my house. Even the CD cover & included material are a class production act. Michael Breene's work is great & I look forward to hearing more from this artist. Obviously I highly recommend BENEATH THE VEIL.
Enchanted Egypt
excellent like all Zingaia.......2005-07-15
Another excellent album and the most popular. Very exciting and thrilling.
Music for the mind, Sound for the soul.......2004-10-04
A blend of Enigma and William Orbit with a dash of Pure Moods, it carries me along on a soothing ride of musical introspection. If you enjoy music of the world that creates a sense of mystery this sound will be pleasing to your ears. Beneath the Veil has a lovely joy to it that has a rhythm you will want to hear again and again.
It's not a new press - 1997 - but the music sounds new each time I hear it. It is seductive and wonderful for intimate moods. I have shared this music with several friends who each enjoy it as much as I do, and friends are the toughest critics.
Absolutely entrancing..........2004-05-15
'Beneath the Veil' is absolutely entrancing... The title track 'Beneath the Veil' is my fave track on it... Zingaia are also inspirational for me in my own cosmik trakks that i've been collaborating on/making over these past few years...
I actually bought it on a whim, and I play it pretty regularly for inspiration...
I still want to get 'Dancers of Twilight', which I'm sure is equally as enchanting - Savannah Skye aka Savvy...

Outstanding.......2007-03-09
The cd arrived well before the estimated date and I just love the music.
I buy this one for all my gal friends!.......2007-01-12
I have listened to this over and over and over, never tire of it.
Peace and Harmony.......2004-03-09
I have so very much enjoyed all of Marina Raye's recordings. They fill me with such a peaceful, serene feeling. I commute a long distance daily, and play them every day while I am on the road. The music seems to make the miles fly past. My current favorite is Womanspirit. In addition to the beautiful flute music on this recording, I find the percussion of Mr. Olabayo fascinating. I would recommend Marina's recordings to all who are seeking a soothing, melodious musical experience.
Peacefulness and tranquility.......2004-02-10
I first was introduced to Marina's music at a mutual friend's wedding in The Garden Of The Gods. Since then I have gotten all of her albums. I used to like a very quiet house when I read or did crafts. Now I almost always have one of her CD's playing in the background. It is so peaceful and relaxing. It makes me feel like I am in another place and time and it is wonderful there. I would recommend this or any of the other CD's to round out your collection. Thank you so much Marina and Charlie Oakwind.
Gentle and healing.......2003-08-05
A friend played this during our weekly Sunday sister meeting, a prayer circle, and it completed the tryst. It set our minds ready to pray and meditate...calming and encouraging of healing, settling into gentleness. It is excellent music for intentional solitary time. Healing is the act, green is the color that represent this good work. There is a place in everyone's life for this music.

Product Description
...International award winning composer, Fahir Atakoglu is a much-esteemed composerand pianist in Europe and Turkey, in the fields of large symphonic works and film music. His works have also been performed in various music festivals in Europe and across The United States to much acclaim. This CD called IF marks an interesting departure for him. Instead of a ninety piece orchestra, his music here is performed by only three musicians, and what a fabulous trio it is! Fahirs playing and his harmonic and original rhythmic sense in his compositions, electrifies the musical atmosphere throughout. The legendary bassist Anthony Jackson is superb as always, so is drum virtuoso, Grammy winner Horacio El Negro Hernandez. Saxophonist Donny McCaslin plays beautifully on two numbers. The drumming that is Horacios own, together Anthonys tone that has been his signature for nearly two decades, and the groups unique grooves of Turkish melodic and rhythmic motifs, makes this album a one of a kind collectors item, a must have

Your ears and your heart will appreciate this album.......2005-08-24
What an amazing group of musicians!!! Fahir Atakoglu is a well-known musician in Europe, it was time for him to conquer the US music markets. This is one of those albums, you know, the rare ones that you keep playing for years and years. These musicians are simply genious people, and they know how to show this by touching your heart. Stop reading these comments and go and buy this album immediately. If you are like me, I know you will appreciate it.
alig .......2005-08-22
Having been recording in Europe & Turkey for over 20 years, Fahir is finally recording in the USA. Jackson and Hernadez are serious players, and have given Fahir the good exposure he deserves. Fahir's music has been a part of our lives, souls and dreams for years. Believe it or not, I was surprised to hear Fahir's music as the opening act at a wedding in Medellin, Colombia this August. This guy is an incredible talent. His music has an international appeal with the ability to reach people's hearts. Way to go Fahir!
Excellent !.......2005-08-20
...Wow!!! ; I have never heard this guy before but he sure can play his piano!!His melodies are amazing...His Turkish side really shows in the 3rd track Anadoluo. Fahir's comping on the left hand ,the pulse is so very very much in sync with the Drummer!that it gives listener an overwhelming pleasure and with Anthony Jackson the poly-rithm in all of the compositions are sooo original that I praise this album .. a very BIG AWESOME!!!
I believe pianists, bass players and drummers can "LEARN" a lot from this album!!
I am looking forward to hearing them live ;
you got a FAN!!
not too sure yet..........2005-07-21
...what to make of this record.
I just can't help it,but I feel that this album does not really breathe as well as it could.A lot of clustered left hand voicings from the piano may well be a contributing factor. That the rhythm playing feelsa little hectic (to me anyhow)is another point. And although there is a lot of soloing in the piano,as well as it may be executed,i feel that there is a lack of direction.as a bottom line i got to say, that the pianoplaying really does not touch me all that much.
The rhythm-section however really helps. The bass especially is highly dynamic. The use of the expression pedal much complements the overall picture. At times however gem-like moments in the bass department(of which there are MANY) are a little quiet against the piano.Mind you ,this is a PIANO TRIO record. As to the drums; i really enjoy what is going on there too.apropriately busy.
On the whole;i like this record, although I doubt it will become a favourite,as I am not sure the compositions are of the kind that makes me want to keep on listening through the whole album. One or two pieces at a time, yes, but perhaps not the whole cd.They do not make me alert in a way that some others do,as i miss a sense of clarity and concept(having said that,i have not spent all that much time with the cd as yet-affore mentioned reasons-)-this is of course mostly a taste issue. For rhythm section enthusiasts, and especially basspeople, this will be a very interesting disc to listen to.

I've used this CD for journeying for almost a decade. This CD is my favorite drumming tool. The harmony of the drums is amazing. So many different timbers rise from them. Powerful stuff.
Need a drumming CD for shamanic journeying?.......2007-05-12
I have been using the Shamanic Journey Multiple Drumming CD for at least 5 years now. I use it when working with clients in shamanic sessions and for personal journeys as well. It has a clear sound and easy drum beat which helps me journey deeply when doing shamanic healing. I recommend this CD for beginners as well as experienced shamanic healers!
Good drumming for journeying.......2007-05-11
I enjoy the extra boost of the multiple drums on this cd. I used it for many years. It gets the job done without getting all wrapped up in 'bells and whistles' like some other companies do with their stuff.
Good CD for journeying.......2007-05-11
Good cd for journeying. I use it all the time. I don't want anything frilly or "beautiful." The point is to journey. This is my fav.
An Excellent Tool.......2006-11-30
This is an excellent tool for those working on Shamanic Journeying as part of their shamanic medicine practices. The drum beats put you into the theta brain wave place necessary to allow you to conduct your Shamanic Journeying. It is beautiful music.

uplifting and beautiful.......2007-02-04
I love this CD. I find it a bit fast paced for my regular table massage but I use it in a corporate chair massage setting. The pace is perfect and it's just soothing enough to take my clients out of their heads for the short time they are with me.
mood changing.......2003-04-08
I use this music for just listening or when doing massage or Reiki. The combination of the flute and drum is particularly pleasing and definitely puts one in a different and more peacefull state of being. I recently purchased all 10 of Marina's CD and this is one of my favorites.

One of the Best Storytelling CD's you can buy........2003-09-29
"We think this is one of the finest storytelling CD's we have heard and we are giving it our "Storyteller.net Director's Award." The CD itself is a story that crafts the tales, music and drumming within into a sound scultpture. It's hard for a teller to find a way to balance story and music, but Baba has done so here. Listening to this CD is a treat where your ears and your heart will thank you. Really, a "must have" for anyone who is fan of storytelling and a nice example of how to do it right if you are thinking about making a CD. If Amazon runs out of stock, just order anyway, it's well worth the wait as more arrive."-Storyteller.net Reviews
This Is a Teacher's Pick.......2001-09-30
Asha's Baba has recorded a beautiful selection of West African story telling and music that will educate, entertain and inspire. He plays the kora, an African harp, which has such a beautiful sound, it could lull a baby to sleep. And his storytelling, with all of the authentic background noises, really makes you feel as if you were sitting there listening to this djeli. The drumming in the music make for a complete African experience that you will want to share. The CD is a great gift idea for any age, but make sure you have a copy for yourself as well.
