Not what I was expecting.......2007-06-04
I bought this CD several years ago even before it went on market in U.S., aftering finding out that she has a new CD coming out on her website. I was so excited that I ordered this CD from amazon.uk, paid twice the money too, as it was being released there several months before it was to go on sale in U.S.
However, after I listened to this CD, I was hugely dissapointed. While it has a great production value, orchestration, and showcases Vanessa-Mae's violin skills, I found most of the compositions to be nothing spectacular... and frankly, tedious... This failed introduction into Vanessa-Mae's work actually prevented me from trying out her other CDs for the past several years until now. For newcomers to Vanessa-Mae, I find her "The Violin Player" and "Best of Vanessa-Mae" to be immensly more superior CDs than this one.
If a Virtuoso.......2006-11-13
I absolutely without thought purchase all of Vanessa Mae's CDs'. The best aspect of her genius is her creativity and passion - you hear it in every note! She is without a doubt a first-class violinist who shoves traditional boundaries aside and absolutely roars like a muse - unrivaled.
Technically superb but the melody is not exciting..........2006-08-16
Vanessa Mae is an amazing violinist. Her notes literally dance and you can hear the spirit in the music. But I did not enjoy the music chosen on this CD. The tunes are not exciting.
VANESSA-MAE CHOREOGRAPHY.......2005-12-22
GREAT MUSIC AND I LOVE THE SABER DANCE.
the best Vanessa Mae CD yet........2005-08-28
Definitely liked it. She's always been a great violinist. the improvement is in the background composition. the score with music by Vangelis is awesome and the rest of the tracks are amazing.

Customer Reviews:
best of previous CDs.......2005-07-06
Finally, she is playing again at what she does best...modern music. Her style is much more mature now, and richer in taste and selection. Whenever Vanaessa Mae attempts to play classical music, there seems to be great lacking of soul and spirit, something like Becky Taylor when she sings structured songs like "bluebird". Handel here seems pretty decent to me.
Pretty good album, but too short!.......2005-01-03
I was a bit skeptical when I heard a snippet of her opening track "Saber Dance", since the Brahm theme was also covered by Bond (the classical quartet) on their last album under the name "Highly Strung". It was a horrible track, like nails scratching down a blackboard. Vanessa actually makes this piece tolerable, since Saber Dance is much more rich in beats and instruments, so it doesn't get too redundant and it keeps the song moving. Still, the song is too long for my taste clocking in at 6 mins.
My favorite track on the whole album is "Tango De Los Exilados", it has a reoccurring tango theme that may sound familiar to those who have seen/heard of Moulin Rouge's tango rendition of "Roxanne", only even more dramatic and epic. Simply a gorgeous track.
"The Havana Slide" is a fun song, very cuban, very latino, with lots of piano and trumpets. Not as complex as one would like it for a violin played piece, and I get the impression the violin bits are a bit forgetful here. No matter, I like this song either way ^_^
For something leaning more towards new age and epic, I'd say "Emerald Tiger" takes the cake. It is the african influenced equivalent to her chinese flavored "Happy Valley" or "I'm a doun". It's still a treat to listen to and just the right length.
"Moroccan Roll" is another fun world beat song, I've always loved the gypsy effect on the violin, it's another song rich in texture that reminds me a bit of Sarah Brightman's middle eastern flavored album Harem. The ending quarter of the song is superb, I love how beautifully Vanessa plays reminds me of part of her "Art of War" piece.
The song that really feels out of place in this album is the very last track "Handel's Minuet", typical classical rendition, though beautifully executed, it's BORING. I know the album probably needed some softer songs to lighten the mood, but she could've done something better than this. Where's the world influenced pizzazz from the other songs? Even "Roxane's Veil" was a ballad, it had at least some gregorian chants in it.
Overall though, it's an album heavily influenced with world beats, which is something different for Vanessa, since most of her songs are usually with dance club/techno beats. I like this new approach, and it's worth every cent paid for this album.
Unfortunately, it's only 10 tracks long lasting no more than 43 mins. I only wish she did more songs for this album!
This classical chick continues to rock!.......2004-12-30
Another brilliant piece of work from one of the hottest violinists out there. Her music really scorches on this with outstanding renditions of Sabre Dance and Bolero. She teams up with Vangelis for a couple of numbers. With her playing the strings, what is not to like about classical music!
