Thank you Montana Skies.......2005-01-26

I downloaded the free MP3 of "Danza" to play in our middle school media center, to give us all a little relief from classical piano pieces playing in the background. :) "Danza" sounded so fresh and invigorating, that I downloaded all the MP3's offered by Montana Sky. I love the blend of classical guitar and cello. It is not easy to find well played, well recorded, classical music with a world flavor that is not distracting in a library setting--and also does not make everyone sleepy. There are Celtic and Latin sounding pieces here.
The guitar and cello both are recorded with a very full sound and are exquisitely mixed and mastered. A very nice surprise. I've put both CDs on my wish list at home for myself too.

"Lift" represents new artistic avenue for Montana Skies (cello and guitar) and is their first ensemble CD. The CD is also marks Jennifer's debut recording with her six string electric cello. The CD was recorded during March and April in the spring of 2006 and was recorded in Lawrenceville, GA, Athens, GA, Nashville, TN and Bozeman, MT. In addition to Jonathan and Jenn four other musicians contributed to the album including: Jerry Fields (percussion), Darren Michaels (bass), Dr. Arvin Scott (percussion) and Chad Langford (double bass). From Montana Skies (liner notes): We enjoyed working with all ot the talented musicians on the album "Lift" and continue to enjoy our work with them on the live stage. The music on "Lift" has also pushed us, in our duo concerts, to innovate new ways to create the layers of sound found in these compositions with state of the art pedals, live looping, percussive techniques, and (of course!) plenty of heart.

Album Description

"Montana Tunesmith” is Tim and Mike Nordstrom, whose songs come like a fresh autumn breeze across the Bitteroots. Utilizing tight, brotherly harmonies and lovely melodies, their songs about family, home and geography cause us to reflect again on the true meaning of "folk music"- music written for its own sake, from the heart.

Still, there is no lack of expertise and care taken with the songs. From the lighthearted "Small Montana Bar" to the tragedy retold in "Smith Mine", Tim and Mike summon up crystal clear images of Montana as it is and was. Their lyrical treatment of the romantic west is accurate and sometimes heartbreaking, but always listenable and entertaining.

These two Red Lodge, Montana residents are something special in the world of acoustic music. Capturing the west and its people on a canvas of song, Montana Tunesmith quietly achieves the same effect as a Karl Bodmer portrait of the same land-satisfaction, enjoyment, and serenity.

These brothers write some of the greatest "local reference" folk style music in the mountains. If you groove on anything from Jimmy Buffett to Gordon Lightfoot to Jalan Crossland to James Taylor and like that lyric structure then try this and "Life is for the Living"

Just passing through Yellowstone Lodge.......2005-12-19

My wife and I were on a cross-country camping trip and stopped into the Yellowstone Lodge in 2002 for a break. The 'Tunesmith' were playing in one of the bars, so we sat down and watched. They are a great duo, and can sing some great harmonies.
