This is wonderful classical music. If the kids like it, great! But, make no mistake about it, this is good for anyone. This is wonderful study music, reading music, or just plain relaxing music. Highlights include "Parade of the Wooden Soldiers"; "March of the Toys" (from BABES IN TOYLAND -- the reason I bought this CD); "The Sorcerer's Apprentice"; "The Little Train of Caipira" (no longer little when the music is over); and the audience favorite "Hoedown" (i.e. "Beef, it's what's for dinner!").

If you're into that whole thing of classical music sharpening a youngster's intellect, then this won't disappoint. If you're just into good old fashioned classical music in general, it won't disappoint you either. Also, I highly recommend to both groups the classical CD BUILD YOUR BABY'S BRAIN.

This is a wonderful album. Very high quality, and every selection is beautiful. My daughter (who usually asks me to turn my classical music off) loves to pretend to gallop like a horse during "Rodeo" and march like a soldier during "Parade of the wooden soldiers". This is a pleasure for the whole family!

I love these! I got them on tape many years ago. It's a great way to get to know the composers and their music in an entertaining way. I'm now twenty and a piano performance major and I still listen to them.

We've had the CDs in this boxed set for over a year now. The Classical Kids series has been wonderful. We have two boys (now 6 and 8) and this has been a great introduction to classical music. At first, the kids loved the stories that surround the music. The stories provide a sense of history and place and, ultimately, we found that they keep the kids interested in the entire CD. As they listened (time and time again) to the stories, they started to pay more attention to the musical portions that are in the background or that break up portions of the stories.

Recently, we've been able to tell that they've picked up a sense of the music as we've listed to classical music on the car radio. Time and again, they perk up when listening to a piece of music and surprise us by saying "That's Beethoven". Sure enough - they've picked up something about the style of music that's characteristic of Beethoven. Sometimes it's the snippet of music from the CD and other times it's just the rhythms that are characteristic of that piece. As a family, we all recommend this.

This is an excellent beginning for classsical music, and supplement. It does not replace a classical music education , but for those who have no idea where to start, this is fun and is excellent for those with short, short attention spans or are used to the Brittany Spears generation. For those with an extensive music background, it is limited to the quite young.

Okay, maybe the Amazon title doesn't describe exactly what you are getting, an incrediby kid-oriented story with classical music playing in the background. But these stories use a kid's imagination and really interest them in a composer. My children beg to hear Tchaicovsky! (I know my spelling is wrong). "Mommy, please don't play your music; I want to hear Tchicovsky again." (for the fourth time in a row!) How many kids beg for you to buy Swan Lake so they can hear how it ends? I think this CD creates a love of classical music in a way that kids can enjoy. WHAT I RECEIVED WAS NOT AT ALL WHAT I EXPECTED. THERE IS VERY LITTLE MUSIC ON THESE C.D.S THEY ARE A FOUR CD COLLECTION OF NARRATION MIXED WITH MUSIC. I THOUGHT I WAS GETTING ALL MUSIC. THE NARRATION GETS VERY ANNOYING AFTER A WHILE AND EVEN MY YOUNGEST CHILD DOES NOT LIKE LISTENING TO THEM. I WISH THE DESCRIPTION POINTED OUT THAT THESE ARE HISTORICAL STORIES ABOUT THE COMPOSERS WITH SMALL EXCERPTS OF MUSIC. I THOUGHT FROM THE DESCRIPTION THAT THEY WERE ACTUALLY ALL MUSIC.

I enjoyed reading the reviews of parents whose kids have recently discovered "Classical Kids." I'm about to order the boxed set for my kids, ages 21, 19 and 16 because the nineteen-year-old, who has a college radio show and loves a wide variety of music, remembers this series (then only on cassette) with great affection and wants to hear them again. Those of you wondering whether it's worth it or not to try to introduce kids to classical music this way, be assured it works. We've turned one of Mr. Bach's lines into a family "saying:" "the more you study, the more you know; the more you know, the more you appreciate; the more you appreciate, the more you love." A great series!

Many years ago I purchased my first CD in this series, "Beethoven Lives Upstairs." My children and I were delighted with it. I then discovered that there were more and searched them all out, one by one. My children, now 11, 9 & 5, have listened to these stories as they fall asleep for years. They each have a favorite composer and have gone on to learn more about them. These stories are a great introduction to some of our greatest composers. Not to mention a good intro to history, too!

Imagine my delight that they are now in one boxed set! Now when asked, I suggest this set. What a great way to get it ALL! I truly believe that by surrounding our children with a variety of good music (including POP music) and information they will grow up with a greater appreciation for music and the arts.

I love the idea, but I don't want to expose my children to the stories in these cd's. They contain children talking back to their parents, disrespectful language, sorcery, etc. If you don't like Harry Potter, you won't like these CD's.

My 6 year old son loves music...and stories! Here is the prefect combo. Lovely music of the composer accomapnies a fictional story which weaves the composer's life, the culture of his homeland as well as history...in an intriguing and fun way! Now, my son can pick out pieces he hears on the classical radio station. He really enjoys the stories and can tell people @ carnival in Venice, Italy and tidbits @ Beetoven and the Magic Flute by Mozart! A must for any child with any of these interests! We also have enjoyed the CD's and have learned lots!
I only can wonder...what took whomever so long to broaden our horizons in such a way! BRAVO!

We've had the CDs in this boxed set for over a year now. The Classical Kids series has been wonderful. We have two boys (now 6 and 8) and this has been a great introduction to classical music. At first, the kids loved the stories which provide a sense of history and place and, ultimately, keep the kids interested in the entire CD. As they listened (time and time again), they started to pay more attention to the musical portions. Recently, we've been able to tell that they've picked up a sense of the music as we've listed to classical music on the car radio. Time and again, they perk up when listening to a piece of music and surprise us by saying "That's Beethoven". Sure enough - they've picked up something about the style of music that's characteristic of Beethoven. Sometimes it's the snippet of music from the CD and other times it's just the rhythms that are characteristic of that piece. As a family, we all recommend this.

The second installment of the "Greatest Classics" series again sidesteps the obvious in favor of the vaguely familiar and unusual. As an intro, Beethoven's 9th Symphony is nudged aside by his springlike "Pastoral Symphony"; its first part, "The Awakening of Cheerful Impressions," does just what its title promises. Some music can be traced to the TV as a ready reference point--kids will have caught Offenbach's riotous "Can Can" in cartoons where one-upmanship is the theme and more than a couple commercials have jingled Pachelbel's "Canon in D." But it's the arrangements that so effectively stamp out intimidation. The piano-pounding sharpness of Chopin's "Grand Waltz Brilliante," for instance, is mellowed by mandolin and guitars, and Bizet's "Habanera" takes on a playful puffiness when performed on trumpet and tuba. Approach The Kids' Collection of Greatest Classics as if it's a handful of familiar themes cleverly framed for formal discussion. Kids over 3 will have likely already experienced (via cartoons, commercials, or elsewhere) Handel's "Water Music," Bizet's "Toreador Song," and Beethoven's "Ode to Joy"--but few will have not sorted out their significance or sophistication. The idea, then, is that repeated spins of these clipped and cheerful arrangements will steer them straight. Mozart--the hard stuff where masters are concerned, yet usually the main ingredient on collections like these--gets subbed for music that fans out in friendly, relatable directions. Debussy's "Clair de Lune" prances forward delicately on harp, Haydn's "Surprise Symphony" booms in on bass, and Brahms's "Hungarian Dance" imparts a cozy provincialism.         By the time one reaches the third installment in the Greatest Classics series, you've cracked the classical code far enough to step up to some grownup-sounding arrangements. So it's not until three tracks in, when J. Strauss Jr.'s "Radetzky March" takes a twirl toward the childish on piccolo trumpet, and pennywhistle, that the uninformed listener might catch wind he's tuned into a kids' CD. Verdi's "Triumphal March" proceeds regally, as does Handel's "Queen of Sheba," and Mozart's swanlike Piano Concerto No. 21 sails along exquisitely as ever. This CD's mixed-bag effect adds to its appear; as the series' final disc, it's a catch-all for must-have composers such as Rachmaninoff and Dvorak. --Tammy La Gorce

        Enjoy the works of Strauss, Handel, Rachmaninoff and Dvorak - classical melodies, recognizable themes with refreshing, unique arrangements that combine folk and orchestral instrumentation: a banjo and a mandolin can be heard in Dvorak's New World Symphony and Schubert's Ave Maria is played by guitar. Our kids are smitten and so are we!
