Elevator muzak: soft versions of already soft music, such as showtunes and soundtracks. Just add a dash of classical guitar noodling, and you get this recording.

As a fan and student of classical guitar, I feel this recording does the instrument a disservice.

Simply put, it's corny and well below Liona's status. She must have produced this out of demand, from someone! It might as well be a spattering of Liona with Mantovani and Lawrence Welk!

A Liona Boyd fan - still!

4 out of 5 stars For Your Quiet Evenings........2003-01-23

I've had this album for years and I break it out every now and then. It's a very tasteful album and chock full of good tunes done extremely well by Liona. My favourite is 'Vaya Con Dios'. The piano complements the guitar so well. Give this album a whirl and together with Mancinis' 'As Time Goes By', you never know what'll happen.

This album contains some very pleasing music. There's a selection of famous Christmas carols, the majority of which are played as instrumentals, with Liona Boyd on classical guitar, Georges Zamfir on pan flute, and a fine team of other musicians, including Toronto's Children's Chorus and the Orpheus Choir.

Five of the selections include lyrics. The first is the title song, "Christmas Dreams," which begins "Christmas dreams are like rainbows." The others are "Song of Peace," "Silent Night," "Hark the Herald Angels Sing," and "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear."

It's a good choice for the Holiday season, maybe even more so on the evening of, say, December 6 (Saint Nicholas' Day) or December 24 (Christmas Eve, of course).

If you are a Pagan, the Holiday season is a great time to invite one's Christian friends over to celebrate Yule, sing "O Tannenbaum," and put presents under the tree. If you want to go, um, whole hog, you can even perform the sonargoltr (sacrificing the Yule pig) for the feast. But don't do that in front of the guests! Instead, get this fine album and use it to promote togetherness.

Guess what my wife gave me last Christmas? It was "Christmas Dreams" by Liona Boyd.We played "Christmas Dreams" over, over, and over.... Georges Zamfir plays pan flutes to provide a lovely blend with Liona's beautiful classical guitar playing of Christmas season tunes. Other guest appearances are by Roger Whittaker, The Toronto Children's Chorus, and The Orphius Choir. I enjoy all 14 tracks and highly recommend this CD for this Blessed Christmas Season.

    Liona Boyd's outstanding composition,artistry, and beautiful classical guitar playing make this a "must have" CD. In the three tracks entitled "My Land of Hiawatha", the artist has captured and interpreted the music of the heart, soul, and spirit of the North American Indian. All 14 tracks are great! Well done, Liona!

    Cliché after tired cliché. This cd shows Liona has a firm grasp of guitar technique and little else. The compositions don't develop so much as meander and there is little that is new or interesting that can bring this disk above pure fluff. Try Dusan Bogdanovic, Roland Dyens, or Andrew York (LAGQ) for a true guitarist/composer example.

    Liona's qualities as a classical guitarist are known to all guitar fans, but this CD is really the top! She composed all titles herself, plays like a goddess. What a find! Great production and perfect sound quality.

    Liona Boyd's talents as composer and performer are superbly demonstrated on this album. (Liona wrote seven out of the sixteen classical guitar pieces on Passport To Serenity). Liona's "Lullaby for My Love" and "Shadows of the Wind" are beautifully written and played. Listen to Liona's interpretation of Erik Satie's "Gymnopedie #1". I highly recommend this wonderful CD.
