Howard Dunn died just weeks after the release of this 1990 recording. He had served for 20 years on the faculty of Southern Methodist University, where he led the SMU Wind Symphony and taught music history and conducting. As the founder and artistic director of the Dallas Wind Symphony, which made its debut in 1985, he helped transform what was initially a sight-reading group into one of the few all-professional, non-military wind bands in the country. That Dunn left behind a first-rate organization is clear enough from these readings. The virtuosic writing of Gould's Santa Fe Saga sparks the Texans to some fine playing, as does the colorful scoring of H. Owen Reed's La Fiesta Mexicana--a large-scale work that pays off its debt to Hindemith, and its even more evident borrowings from Petrushka, in shiny new pesos. The extraordinary ambiance of the Meyerson Symphony Center is nicely captured as well: live but not too reverberant, with a superbly graduated decay, it proves to be ideal for this music. --Ted Libbey

Fabulous.......2005-10-23
This DVD is spectacular. Andre Rieu is absolutely fascinating to listen to and the costumes of the orchestra as gorgeous. Well worth every penny.
Andre Rieu "Fiesta".......2005-09-20
This CD is absolutely fantastic. There is no musician quite like Andre Rieu. His music does indeed lift the spirit.
Fiesta.......2005-09-12
The music lifts my spirits! It is fun and lighthearted. I sincerely recommend this CD by Andre Rieu.
Not the best versions available.......2002-02-12
First of all, why call this recording
"Fiesta"? only for the first four latin-american
works? because the rest of the cd is of
German music.I you want a real "Fiesta"
disc, I recomendation is that disc
of Keith Lockhart, is much more fun and
much more in a fiesta spirit than this one.
This is a great album!.......2002-01-02
I highly recommend this album. Andre Rieu is a great violinist. If you buy this album you will not be dissappointed. I'd give it ten stars if I could.

A great addition to your chillout library.......2007-03-13
As a fan of Enigma, Deep Forrest and Buddha Bar it provides another great variation of ambient sounds with good production. Hard to get hold of, it was worth pursuing. Great album.
ANYTHING BY B-TRIBE IS OUT OF THIS WORLD.......2005-07-13
They get better with each CD but they are still all out of this world. There are no words to describe what this music does--chills and thrills.
Excellent and sensual Gipsy music!.......2003-04-08
B-Tribe is capable of generate a new sensual sound with the old timer Gipsy music. A must have for your collection!
The Original.......2003-03-07
I've owned this album since its inception but I feel compelled to write a few words and sum it all up...THIS IS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN...all you people that have been with b-tribe since the beginning know the impact this music has had on you.
A good blend of new age, traditional latin, and techno music.......2002-07-28
I am new to the music of Barcelona Tribe of Soulsters but being a huge fan of new age, world, and techno music, I thought I would acquaint myself with their music when I found "Fiesta Fatal!" in the used cd bins at my favorite record store. I definitely liked what I heard on "Fiesta Fatal!". It is a good introduction for a new listener like myself. I really enjoyed the blend of traditional latin music fused together with ambient beats. In fact there were moments on this cd when I could have sworn I was listening to Enigma like on the title track. Those haunting female vocals is another reason why I thought I was listening to Enigma at different times on the album. I definitely thought I was listening to Enigma on "Nadie Entiende". As good as this album is, I think the biggest weakness is due to that Enigma comparison. Not that I didn't like what I heard on but I think that B-Tribe ought to develop a sound of their own. I love the idea of fusing traditional or classical music with techno beats but there has to be a line drawn somewhere that an artist has to also develop a sound of his or her own and not to rely so much on certain musical influences. B-Tribe is a perfect example of what I am saying. Come up with some better techno beats 'cause the ones that I heard on this album sure isn't original, and if using a female vocalist, well the same can be said about her too. Other than that, I really enjoyed this album, especially "Lo Siento". I really loved the flamenco work on this song. I definitely plan on buying more albums from B-Tribe in the near future for all the flaws that I have listed here.

In the corner of the world known as New Orleans, Roy Byrd--Professor Longhair--looms larger than any other musical figure with the possible exception of Louis Armstrong. This album, recorded in 1979 and released the following year just after his death, marks his final recordings, and it includes a robust horn section, tight rhythm section, and Dr. John strumming guitar alongside his idol. The pianist bounces buoyantly through old favorites while adding some new songs into the mix. Fess's infectious vocals, jaunty ivory-tickling, and funky groove provide the ultimate soundtrack to the Crescent City and show exactly why the city has the reputation that it does. Take two mudbugs and call me in the morning. Better make that the afternoon. Late afternoon. --Marc Greilsamer
Customer Reviews:
Fess Rules.......2007-03-17
This is the last record officially recorded by the great Professor Longhair. If you don't know Fess was the Godfather of post 1940's New Orleans Piano. From somewhere he virtually invented a new style that Dr John, Allen Toussaint, James Booker (and the UK's Jools Holland) all borrowed from to differing degrees. Willie Fugal's Blues perhaps represent this best on this album. This is solo Piano except for added Conga.
His vocal style is also quite unique as well. Deceptively simple which occasionally becomes a sort of yodel.
This is a joyous record with 3 Sax players, a conga player and Dr John on Guitar. The recording quality is very good, as this was recorded in 1979 or 1980.
Rock n Roll, Blues and Jazz fans will all like this album. If you've just spent a difficult half hour trying to enjoy a late Coltrane album, this is such a relief.
Treat yourself to this recording.
The very definition of blues piano!.......2001-08-06
This is Professor Longhair's best album and unfortunately it was his last. Professor Longhair is the very essence of New Orleans blues. He was Dr. John's mentor, who also was Professor Longhair's studio guitarist, before he dedicated himself to the piano and had a career of his own.
Crawfish Fiesta is my favorite blues album. It is full of energy and is just full of life and fun. Buy this album and take a virtual trip to New Orleans.
The Professor's dream ..........2000-07-04
I first heard Longhair on the record "New Orleans Piano". It's a remarkable record. For the most part the tunes are brutally simple, the left hand outlining a major chord, and the right hand playing simple repetitive licks. But one tune jumps right off the grooves, "Tipitina", the left hand plays a rhumba like bass figure unlike any you've heard, the right hand alternates between tinkling and hard hammering, and the Professor more or less yodels a long series of nonsense syllables interrupted by one intelligible phrase, "little momma want's a dollar". Everything about this tune is unique, it was a local hit for Longhair in the early 50's.
When I moved to N.O. in the 70's I attended my first Longhair event in a run-down church. Playing with Fess was a ragtag group that did include, however, the legendary Snooks Eaglin on guitar. The audience was in bleacher type seats in front of a small stage. At one point someone in the audience shouted out "Tipitina!", and the Professor launched into the tune. This time the lyrics were intelligible, about a certain Loberta that liked to indulge, with the exception of the line corresponding to "little momma wants a dollar" which was rendered "oolla molla wolla dolla" !
I heard Longhair on many subsequent occasions. Every time was a party. And, every time, the accompanying band was less than stellar. Didn't make any difference, Longhair was never less than great.
Likewise, most of Longhair's recordings are made with less than stellar backing musicians ("R&R Gumbo does feature some superfine playing by Gatemouth Brown.) However, the band on "Crawfish Fiesta" consists of some of the best musicians in N.O. This band rocks! Longhair is in top form. The CD leads of with "Big Chief", which is an anthem in N.O., and the tunes are great start to finish. It's as if the Professor dreamed the perfect CD, and, then, it came to pass.
His third best album--thus completely essential!.......2000-03-02
I think that "New Orleans Piano" and "Houseparty New Orleans Style" are better Longhair albums, but this one is also a great album. There are many lively cuts on which the horns and guitar mix together with Longhair's playing and singing to create a very appealing and exciting sound. This is an essential album, and a whole lot of fun.
A masterpiece!.......1999-07-12
Doesn't get much better than this. Fess' is the king of Nawlins'

Dora's party song for kids.......2007-06-19
It was gift for my son's one of friend. She really like it and she dance with music. it's good for girl who likes Dora then lean song too.
My daughter says, "I love it!" and so do I!.......2007-01-28
Straight from the source!
My two year old loves this CD. Great at keeping her busy without TV! It's adorable and has lots of music preschool children will enjoy. Recommended.
Vamonos a la Fiesta.......2006-10-24
A lot of good points, a couple of bad. First, the compilation has a great selection of songs that all fit in with the dance party theme and it makes you want to get up and dance. The songs are great, especially Oye Como Va, We Got The Beat, We Are Family, and La Bamba.
The problems with this cd is that it's retailed too expensive for a 30 minute disc, though it does have a bonus music video to show you that everyone can dance. It also has a bit too much talking on it. Understandably, this is targeted at preschoolers and the shouted encouragement to get up and dance or sing is good, but sometimes tend to overtake the music.
The real only major fault is the tone of Dora's singing. Shrill, thin, a squeaky grating tone that is quite irritating.
However, thumbs up to Boots' voice - lovely! Backpack sings quite well also. Dora's voice is nails on the chalkboard....
FIESTA AT HOME.......2006-07-10
My Daughter Loves this CD! And it is truly brilliant to have a CD of music that she loves from start to finish (no need to skip songs) and all the while I don't mind hearing it either - they are classic party tunes rather than over the top kids songs that get annoying.
A wonderful album for any little dancer!

Latin Fiesta.......2006-08-16
Love the music! It's a great CD to get you moving.
However, I bought it thinking I could use it for a kids fiesta/party, becuase another review said it was great for kids. I would say it is highly inappropriate for kids, and would not use it to play for a group of children.
WOW.......2002-11-11
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS ALBUM. THIS GUY TOOK ALL THE MOST FAMILIAR LATIN SONGS AND SPRINKLED IN A FEW MORE NEW FUN ONES. ITS A GREAT INTRODUCTION TO LATIN MUSIC FOR KIDS. IN LOT OF THE SONGS, THEY WILL SING PART OF THE SONG IN SPANISH THEN IN ENGLISH SO THE KIDS EVENTUALLY FIGURE OUT THE SPANISH WORDS BY LISTENING AGAIN AND AGAIN.MY SON CAN'T START HIS SCHOOL DAY WITHOUT IT. IT'S ALSO A GREAT POWER WALK TAPE. YOU WANT TO GET UP OFF YOUR [BEHIND] AND GET MOVING!WHAT A GREAT BUY!!

Exactly what it should be.......2006-11-05
This album is a nice way for kids and parents to practice Spanish words together, and get used to the sound of the language.
Great CD!.......2006-10-28
This CD is fantastic. My 14 month old daughter loves to listen to it and so do I. Even my mom wants a copy. You don't have to have a child to enjoy this music. Every single song on this CD is fabulous and very catchy. The songs are about 80% english, 20% spanish.
I don't think it's great but my kid loves it!.......2006-05-28
Some of the accents are terrible and there is FAR more English than Spanish (the songs sung by Elmo and Rosita are a little painful to listen to!). BUT, my daughter (3) loves it. When our first copy was stolen out of our car, she asked for it so many times that I had to go out and get another one. Still, if you really want your child to be exposed to Spanish I think there are better options.
Awesome CD.......2005-04-20
I need to buy another one of these CDs because mine is worn out! I teach Spanish to preschoolers(2-5)and they love these songs. The lyrics are fun to sing and it's great for dancing. This has been the best bilingual CD for kids that I've found so far.
Excellent children's intro to Spanish.......2004-08-27
This is a standard play in our home. My kids LOVE the way the character's repeat each Spanish sentence after Luis, Bob, Maria and the Muppets. The songs are catchy and infectious. We love to listen to this one in the afternoon, and after a lively session of sing along and dancing, it's off for naptime! Buy the video too, it's fun and festive and will give your little ones a taste of Spanish culture. A must have for every Elmo and Sesame Street fan!

Joaquin Rodrigo complete concertos sfor guitar & harp.......2007-01-22
If you like classical music, enjoy spanish guitar, you will love this. It is lighthearted, uplifting, & joyful to listen to.
Marriner and Romeros unbeatable.......2003-02-11
These are probably the best recordings of the Rodrigo guitar concertos available. There is noticeable analog tape hiss in the background but this is a small price to pay for these excellent, classic recordings. The technical precision of Pepe Romero on the guitar along with the excellent performance of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields and the equally good sound engineering is a rare treat. Rodrigo and the Romeros seem meant to go together so this CD set is a must have. It's unfortunate that an equally good recording of the Concierto Serenata is not included. The performance on the harp is disappointing. I am puzzled why Catherine Michel breaks into chords where Rodrigo wrote arpeggios. If this is artistic license it is a poor choice. The sound of the harp often fades behind the sound of the orchestra too. The entire recording seems poorly engineered. The orchestra sounds distant, as if it is poorly mixed or too few microphones were used. In the absence of a better performance, the Concierto Serenata would have best been left off the disc.
2'fer bargain.......2001-11-27
Wow!! Fantastic stuff that is highly recommended for classical music listeners old and new. Hats off to Phillips for collecting these songs by Spanish maestro Rodrigo and presenting them on two discs. Besides the more familiar fare like "Fantasia para un gentilhombre" and "Concierto de Arunjuez," which I never get tired of, there are various other conciertos that are so soothing and extremely relaxing. This is music to park your mind in tranquility bay with, a blissfull audio experience, orchestral nirvana for the classical music neophyte. The "Madrigal Concierto" is especially note worthy, the two guitars and orchestra are magical as they play in unison, elevating the listener to heights unknown and back. There are various performers on this disc and all are outstanding. The performance of Los Romeros on guitars and Catherine Michel plucking her heavenly harp are exceptional and simply perfect to my ears. These are all recordings from the 70's and early 80's but have been digitally remastered for a crystal clear sound. If you like the music of Joaquin Rodrigo you will love this compilation of 155 min+ of his best compositions at an incredibly low price.
Inroduction to Rodrigo.......2001-07-28
I cannot compare these works with others by this composer because this was my first experience of him, but for the information of anyone else who is not familiar with Joaquin Rodrigo, I would describe him as a Spanish Aaron Copland in that they were contemporaries and they both incorporated national folk music into their compositions. It's difficult for me to imagine anyone of any age not enjoying these works.
the best interpretation by the romeros.......2000-08-18
this cd are the best works for guitar by rodrigo, and the best interpretation by the romeros, especially Pepe Romero. His friendship with rodrigo was very important for the interpretation of the concierto de aranjuez and the concierto madrigal with his brother Angel. A great work and i am excited with this cd.

Magnificant.......2006-09-22
In the beginning singers used to sing and dancers used to dance and there was no guitar in flamenco. The guitar was added later as accompaniment. This flamenco CD is a true flamenco and Sabicas is great on the guitar as always. Those who toss CDs over the balcony because of flamenco singers, in my opinion still do not get flamenco. Great flamenco music.
Sabicas Flamenco Fiesta.......2005-09-01
Sabicas is one of the greatest flamenco guitarrists who lived. This album is exciting and his virtuosity is amazing.
The Beauty of Flamenco.......2005-04-09
This is mostly addressed to the frisbee lady.
The guitar in flamenco is the least developed part of the music. The voice is what it's all about, it's what makes it most beautiful to the soul, it's what gives it its duende. The guitar and dancing only support it. So, if you so strongly dislike "the voice", then flamenco all in all isn't for you.
I suggest you read some lectures and poetry by Federico Garcia Lorca, Spain's greatest poet. Maybe then you'll understand this music a bit better.
Cante y Sabicas.......2003-11-21
Flamenco guitar traditionally was used to accompany the singing(cante) and dancing(baile). There are a few Sabicas solo guitar albums out there, but this is one where he's heard in this traditional role. If you find the beautiful singing "horrible", as one reviewer did, sit down, close the blinds and listen again.
Very good traditional flamenco.......2003-08-29
Unlike miss Steinhauser who prefers to use this CD as a frisbee I think that the combination of the voices, the clapping and the guitar make it a wonderfuly balanced flamenco CD. If you are ignorant enough to hear only guitars, you should not by this CD, but good flamenco it cerainly is.

Fennell Interpretation.......2007-05-14
For Band Conductors / Teachers, there is no better conducting interpretation than those of Frederick Fennell. Tho these recordings are not new recordings, they are still viable interpretations. Glad to see them still available.
Keystone Does Canzona and La Fiesta Better.......2005-11-10
The Songs of Abelard Disc has the definitive Canzona on it. The recently-released H. Owen Reed disc has a much better La Fiesta on it as well.
Great music.......2005-10-14
If you enjoy classical band music with lots of brass, you will like this album. Great horn sections, and some very nice chords.
Brilliant band performances.......2003-12-05
Here is more proof of the wonderful accomplishments that Mercury Records achieved in its "Living Presence" classical recordings between 1951 and 1968. Those were golden years for American music as Mercury utilized the talents of such conductors as Howard Hanson, Antal Dorati, Paul Paray, and, in this case, Frederick Fennell. Fennell is heard here in vintage, superb high fidelity recordings (circa 1955) with the Eastman Wind Ensemble, one of the outstanding musical groups associated with the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York.
These works for band or wind ensembles were often performed by college or university bands. Indeed, I heard some of them at the College of San Mateo and San Jose State College during the 1960's, right at the time that Mercury was continuing to issue such fine classical recordings. These performances were all recorded with a single microphone, much like RCA's "New Orthophonic" series, but I have often felt that these had better overall sound than the RCA Red Seal recordings of the early 1950's.
The effects of superb, monophonic, high fidelity have seldom been better represented than in the very colorful "La Fiesta Mexicana" by Herbert Owen Reed, given an absolutely dazzling performance by the Eastman musicians.
The two suites for military band by Gustav Holst, as well as Ralph Vaughan Williams' "English Folk Song Suite" and "Toccata Marziale" are representative of a high point in British music, the early twentieth century. Holst and Vaughan Williams were very good friends and compatriots; they both wrote exceptionally well for wind and brass. These are top-notch performances that set a benchmark for the numerous college and university bands who dared to perform these challenging works.
Less known are Peter Mennin's "Canzona for Wind Band" and Vincent Persichetti's "Psalm for Band," but these works by twentieth century American composers are also well performed in these recordings.
This compilation is definitely a musical "treasure" and have seldom sounded as good as in this digital remastering by Phillips.
like finding a long-lost baseball card.......2003-11-30
The affection listeners feel for the old Fennell/Eastman Wind Ensemble series on Mercury is gratifying to read, as these were indeed wonderful landmark recordings. But truth be told, in this instance it's a lot like finding a long-lost baseball card at a flea market - of a player long since retired & whose feats glow brighter in memory than in fact. This is far from the sonic wonder we recall. So unless nostalgia compels you to replace that ancient piece of vinyl (which is a perfectly good reason for buying it), & mono is OK, you'll be much happier listening to the two great Holst Suites & the Vaughan Williams Toccata performed by the Royal Northern College of Music Wind Orchestra on the Chandos label.
