Customer Reviews:
Good music, strange album..........2007-07-04
After hearing some glorious music from the St. Olaf Choir on the radio, I decided to investigate and see who this fabulous choir was. Part of that investigation resulted in my stumbling on a concert, and it was an absolutely wonderful musical experience. I would certainly recommend that anyone who has an opportunity to hear this group in person should jump at the chance.
In terms of this album, it is too scattered and random to work well for me. There are a handful of Christmas songs in the middle, which are strange to hear when listening to the album in the summer but make the rest of the album out-of-place in December. The musical styles range from high-church classical to soulful spirituals.
If you're looking for an album to show the stylistic range of the St. Olaf Choir, then this album will do it. But if you're looking for something that might fit a particular preference at any given time, which is how I like to listen to music, then this album is jarring as it jumps back and forth from one genre to another.
Again, my critique is no reflection on this outstanding choir. The quality of recording and the blend of these college-age voices are tremendous. I just wish that the album had been organized differently.
good c.d........2007-05-12
I enjoyed listening to the hymns I grew up with. I keep it in my car so when I have a long travel trip it relaxes me to sit back and listen. This is a wonderful choir, they are a young group which to me makes the singing better.
Wonderful Music.......2005-11-05
This was the first CD by the St. Olaf Choir that I purchased, and I absolutely love it. It has a wonderful sollection of music on it from, the joyful "Lift Up Your Heads", to the sad but sweet "I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry". I would recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys hearing the sound of a good choir.
