Insomnia

This may be one of the least abrasive albums of contemporary music you'll ever hear. On this culture-melding disc, violinist Gidon Kremer and harpist Naoko Yoshino explore the dizzying roots and offshoots of modern compositions from the Far East and Europe. Every work on Insomnia--whether written by John Cage, Arvo Pärt, or Richard Strauss--seems to share influences and similarities with the next. While Japanese composer Michio Miyagi (1894-1956) was looking to France for influences on Haru no umi, Erik Satie (1866-1925) was looking to the East on the preludes to Le Fils des Étoiles. The comparisons are fascinating, and Kremer and Yoshino make this difficult music sound easy and hypnotic. Especially effective: Pärt's gorgeous Spiegel im Spiegel and Schnittke's almost New Age-sounding "Pantomime" (from Suite in the Old Style). Great stuff for modern lovers. --Jason Verlinde

5 out of 5 stars A valuable resource for creativity.......2007-07-11

I have found Jeffery Thompson's Theta CDs a useful aid to creativity over the past 4-5yrs promoting calming and focus. I play it through Windows media player with SoundSpectum's G-Force frequency responsive image software to reinforce the effect and involve the visual brain.

5 out of 5 stars Very good.......2007-06-26

I am very pleased with this CD, the music is very calming and relaxing. I don't know if it actually gets me into a theta state as I have no way of measuring my brain waves with an EEG device but it does get me more relaxed and stress-free and thats what I care about. Highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars Takes the edge off..........2007-06-13

I find this CD really helps me rejuvenate and re-energize if I haven't had enough sleep or otherwise feel fatigued. It's particularly helpful on days following a night of insomnia, and leaves me feeling as if I'd caught up on the missed sleep. It also provides powerful assistance for creative visualization sessions.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT PRODUCT.......2007-03-19

I LOVED THE CD'S, HOWEVER I DIDN'T GET THE BOOK. ALL OF THIS GUYS MUSIC IS PHENOMINAL. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

5 out of 5 stars wonderful!.......2007-02-16

I have bought several guided imagery cd's for relaxation and have found the voices on them to be irritating or the content to be kinda stupid. So I bought some nature sounds like ocean waves etc and found them to be relaxing but not exactly trance inducing. This cd is amazing. At first it just sounds like a new age cd but when you use it to meditate it pulls you in to a state of very deep relaxation. My whole body felt tingly. I don't think I have ever felt so at peace. I plan on buying all his cd's and using them every day!!!

5 out of 5 stars amazing effort from the underground.......2007-07-19

As a long time fan of Hed pe's music from there first album "Church of Realities," and from seeing them live for the first time in 1998 opening for Soulfly in Chicago, this band has never gotten the credit or recognition they deserve. Their latest album "Insomnia" blew me away the first time I listened to it. This band continues to reinvent themselves in a way that they stay true to their fan base as well as keepin it real from when they formed in the early to mid 90's. From all the cross-over rap/rock/hop-hop/metal, this band has been the most unique from the start. It is rare these days to find a band such as Hed pe that continues to fuse different styles of music into one entity and can actually pull it off. Most people do not know that Hed pe paved the way for a lot of the corporate MTV B.S bands.
From heavy guitar riffs of the song "Walk on By" to the punk rock sound of "Habeus" to the Tu-Pac-esque vibe of the hip-hop sound on "comeova2nite" any open minded musician or fan of different styles of music from metal to punk to hip-hop to reggae should appreciate the latest effort of Hed pe's Insomnia. Go out and pick up a cd today.

4 out of 5 stars Good, But Not Great.......2007-07-19

Now I may be in the minority here, but i thought the past two releases by (hed) pe were great albums, possibly the best of their careers. and i was hoping on having it continue on this way with their new release "Insomnia." were my hopes fulfilled? Both yes and no. there are some great songs on here, but there are others that are just completely disappointing.
With the good parts: Walk on By is a killer song, no doubt about it. Possibly one of the best of their careers. Game Over is also a great one, more remniscent of an "Only In Amerika" song than anything else found on here. Suffa is good, although maybe not the best choice for a lead single. it reminds me of Get Ready off "Back 2 Base X", a good song but not the best choice to hear what HED is really about. Comeova2nite is the straightforward rap song on the cd, and Jahred lays it down smoothly. RTO is a pretty satisfying listen. good lyrics, and a good appearance by Big B accompany it very well. I love Children, i find it to be a great cover of the Buffalo Springfield Classic. Tienanman Squared is another good one, and Don't Let Me Down would fit perfectly aside anything from "Back 2 Base X".
Now the not so good: Not a big fan of Habeus. His singing in this song, not his screaming, is what ruins it for me. Just doesn't sound like him, like he's trying too hard to sing. C2GU is decent, just nothing truly memorable. Same thing Goes For Atlantis A.D. One song i'm just confused about is Mirrorballin. It's an interesting listen, it's just too stupid to actually be a good song. And the biggest disappointment of the whole cd was Wind Me Up. I'm a big fan of KMK and (hed) pe, but the two together didn't work well whatsoever. Tech N9ne didn't do anything for me on the song either.
So Summary: good cd, mostly good songs on it, with a few stinkers. (hed) pe should stick with what they do best, and leave the guests on the backburner.

4 out of 5 stars Mr Hip Hop, Mr Punk Rock........2007-07-19

Before I get into my review, I just have to say (hed) pe is without a doubt my favorite band. I have yet to write a review of a (hed) pe album just because I was afraid it would be a biast view. After several listens to "Insomnia" I think I can provide a fair, yet great assesment of the bands 6th full lenght album.

(hed) pe has been around a looong while now, with 6 full length albums, one "best of" album, and an EP over the span of around 12 years. While "Insomnia" is ONE of their best works, still does not top 2000's "Broke" or their funky fresh 97 self-titled release. (I do highly urge for new listeners to pick up both albums, you will not be dissapointed)

First listen through "Insomnia" might have listeners thinking "What the F?!?!" While this album is easily the most diverse of their career, fusing together almost ever style of music imaginable. And yes, (hed) pe can do this, masterfully. It's like an album to sum up all of their previous albums, and putting every phase they went through on one amazing disc.

The intro "Madhouse" is easily one of (hed)'s darkest, heaviest sounding tracks, and it's a shame its only an intro. Metal fans will love the creepy feeling it provides. "Walk on By" is a tribute to the older sound of the band, having lead vocalist Jared screaming, singing, and shout rapping at his finest. "Game Over" is a punk/metal/rap track, and great flows by Jah. "Suffa" is the first single, and rightly so, very fast, angry song with some of the best lyrics on the disc. "Comeova2nite" is straight up hip-hop, and Jared is in top form on the track, some of the gunshot samples make it seem a little to mainstream G-unit sounding, but (hed) pe is about the only band in the world that could pull it off. "RTO" is another fusion of rap and punk, and is awesome. "Tienaman Squared" is straight up in your face punk, and has great lyrics. The last 4 songs of the album are all very solid and each is of different style. "Atlantis A.D." could be one of (hed) pe's most solid tracks of recent memory. Great instrumentals, while drummer Devin (replaced by Tiny) puts a great hip-hop beat to the other wise very hard track, and again Jared's flow is on top of it.

Now the reason's it didn't get the glorious 5 star review. "Habeus", while not a bad song, shows no evolution from their previous effort "Back 2 Base X". It really sounds like it could have been copied and pasted from B2BX to this album, a very forgetable track on "Insomnia". And maybe the worst song (hed) has ever done, "Mirrorballin" is just ridiculous...enough said.

Like I said, "Insomnia" is not their best, but definatly a great relief to see (hed) pe back in top form. The album shouldn't dissapoint long time fans, and also if you have an open mind on what style of music you like, give this a spin, very experimental and original. The choruses of the songs have left me singing them in my hed all day long since I first heard it, and it will have you singing them too.

"Until the end of time, I will rebel in the face of all tyrants!"

4 out of 5 stars Finally.......2007-07-18

Its been a long, frustrating time coming, but (hed) has produced another excellent album. Much like Broke was different than their self titled release, Insomnia is different and yet familiar to me as a fan of the two albums.

To be blunt, I didn't like their last three releases; Back 2 Base X at least showed some promise after Only In Amerika seemed to possibly seal (hed)'s fate as past its prime.

This album has a great hip-hop feel to it, and Product should be commended, as should the drummer his bandmates. Where the previous albums showed promising glimpses, Insomnia delivers.

Jared's rapping is back on track, the instrumentals are tight as f*ck, and the band has finally succeeded in effectively combining the hip hop/punk/metal sounds it has experimented with on the last two albums.

For the first time since Blackout, (hed) is back on track.

4 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Solid........2007-07-17

With their third album in a two year period, one would expect (hed)p.e., a band who arguably got left behind when rap-rock died, to sound dire and weak by this point. But the truth is, with "Insomnia," their sixth album, they are actually starting to sound better and fresher than they have in years. Despite the fact that some of Jared's lyrics still bask in cheesiness and today's band just can't live up to the musicianship of previous line-ups of the band's past, at least it doesn't sound like it was recorded in a basement ("Back To Base X") or try to justify it's existence by spewing as many swear words as possible ("Only In Amerika"). That means that "Insomnia" is at least the best release (hed)p.e. have come up with since becoming a semi-indie band.

Make no mistake, if you weren't a (hed)p.e. fan before, this isn't going to change your mind. And if you are expecting the band to expand their sound and grow, you might as well turn around and walk away. If anything, "Insomnia" does a nice job of combining all elements of (hed)'s music, both past and present. "Walk On By" is hands down the best (hed)p.e. song since the days of "Broke," while "Habeus" and "Suffa" improve upon the down and dirty, lo-fi style of the past two albums. There are plenty of political undertones carried through the album, with various soundbites popping up between songs to keep up the concept and beat the message over the listener's head. Although the band who penned "Crazy Legs" isn't the type you want, nor expect to get political, songs like "Tienanmen Squared" and "Atlantis A.D." are actually quite interesting and give the album a little more weight and substance than the rest of the band's career. Also of note is "Children," which spins Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth" on it's head, and also becomes one of the most satisfying tracks on the album.

All compliments aside, there are moments where this album reaches into the realm of the embarassing, which seems to be a modern (hed)p.e. curse. "Come Ova 2 Nite" is as cheesy as it gets, and "Game Over" brings back bad memories of "Only In Amerika." Even still, "Insomnia" is a great album that should please the majority of the fanbase. Granted, it's not the most tasteful or original piece of music out there, but if there ever was a band towards the end of the millennium who made rap-rock fun and credible, it was (hed)p.e., and it's a legacy that they don't appear to be letting go anytime soon.

Product Description

Doveman plays lamp rock and insomnia pop, drawing deeply from downtown jazz, new classical, slowcore, debonair ‘60s pop, and ambient music to create an unusual and delicate sound that The New York Press says "evokes that rare moment when nostalgia and sadness meets love." Time Out New York once remarked that Doveman singer Thomas Bartlett “often sounds as if he’s on the brink of passing out from heartache fumes,” but Doveman’s music isn’t about fainting but rather the rapturous swoon which precedes it. Doveman's debut record, The Acrobat, is reminiscent of downbeat masters of melancholy like Nick Drake, Before and After Science-era Eno, and the latter-day Talk Talk, and the music has the unmistakable ring of pre-dawn loneliness, as intimate as it is forlorn.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Music to get you Dreaming.......2007-04-16

Doveman creates achingly gorgeous songs from sentimental journeys not of this world.
From Honey, the first track to Dancing, the last track, being mesmerized by the breathy vocals to falling into a state of euphoria, seems common place and welcomed. Spiritual.....

I really enjoy the quiet music that resembles N. Drake or Mark Hollis. This is different from other artists akin to this indie sound.
The Acrobat makes my top 100 list for all time, and that could be achieved by the artwork and ghostly invasion alone .

This trio of recent works by Salonen suggests that he's one of the most interesting composers on today's scene. All three share the virtues of his highly individual style, modernistic and accessible. Foreign Bodies is in three parts and is concerned with the unity of music and the body. It opens with a machine-tooled movement of driving rhythms and color-drenched orchestration. The second is more relaxed, with subtle washes of color, and the finale, titled "Dance," returns to rhythm as a motivating force, albeit with a fascinating twittering woodwind-led climax. Wing on Wing's title derives from a sailing term but also might describe the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, home of the city's Philharmonic, for which it was written. It's an adventurous work featuring a pair of coloratura sopranos singing wordlessly, human instruments part of an orchestral fabric that also incorporates a manipulated tape of architect Frank Gehry's voice and another of a fish whose call is seamlessly incorporated into the texture. Insomnia begins with a brief dreamlike passage, the bulk of the piece a succession of restless, often obsessive episodes; some threatening, others frantically joyful, but always constantly engrossing and punctuated by virtuoso solos from the orchestra. A fascinating disc that should be heard. --Dan Davis

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Wing on Wing Doesn't Fly.......2007-06-27

Recently Esa Pekka Salonen was here in New York City. He was charismatic, forceful and literally made the music soar at Alice Tully Hall. I quickly bought this CD and another of his and sat down to enjoy the music.

The music on this CD, however, was not to my liking. It was a little too modern for me and I tried listening to it again the next day but came away with the same feeling.

I also think that the sound was tinny and while there was nothing wrong with the disc the orchestra did not sound complete despite Salonen's solid direction.

I'm glad I have it in my collection but it's not for everyone and unfortunately I'm one of those persons.

5 out of 5 stars This is absolutely great music........2006-01-08

I'm no expert in Esa-Pekka Salonen and his compositional style, but this is absolutely great music. I love his vivid orchestration and different musical colors he utilizes in each of the pieces. And unlike the radical, atonal music of French conductor-composer Pierre Boulez, Salonen's music is relatively more accesible in terms of sonority (I've heard pieces by other extreme composers like Schoenberg and Penderecki, okay?).

To a beginner of contemporary Classical Music, it may take time, but for the experienced, one should never hesitate to buy the album. The music is simply dazzling, if not wierd or even psychedelic. "Wing on Wing", featuring two coloratura sopranos, is especially worth listening. Good way to witness "Art Music" beyond the new millenium.

5 out of 5 stars Simply great!.......2005-04-04

This is a stunning issue. On this showing, Esa Pekka Salonen the composer is right up there with such living luminaries as John Adams or John Corigliano, or even outshine them, and this magnificent collection of his recent works bears that out. This is, above all, "tonality rediscovered." There are unmistakable traces of minimalism, serialism, and even atonality in every piece on this disc, but they are all powerful and lyrical by turns and highly accessible. Sibelian points of reference can also be felt, particularly in Insomnia, reminidng us that he is, after all, a Finn who learned composition from Eijojuhani Rautavaara. A major issue in every way.

5 out of 5 stars Very accessible new music.......2005-03-10

I heard Salonen conduct his work "Insomnia" with the Chicago Symphony last season. It was an exciting piece, performed well, and the audience that night received it with great applause. When I saw this new recording was available I ordered it right away. After several listenings I'm even more impressed with Salonen's compositional skills. All three works on this CD are impressive. The pieces are accessible and highly listenable. They challenge you to meet the composer in his world of sound. The best new music has a sense of purpose and direction, and this music doesn't disappoint. "Wing on Wing" includes soprano vocalise as another element of color.
If you respond to this music as I have, then try his earlier CD titled "LA Variations". This CD, "Wing on Wing" is recommeded without reservation. Salonen is an important composer/conductor of our time.

5 out of 5 stars Esi-Pekki's World.......2005-02-16

Invading foreign bodies, bacteria, sailing ships as architecture; it seems to me that Salonen is going Sci-Fi with his new compilation of his latest works. And so maybe it is not a co-incidence that I feel that actually all of the pieces here, especially Wing-on-Wing, sound like classical versions of the music of a Jean-Michel Jarre playing to a movietheme...

Having said that, I find this music very very attractive, at times a bit nervous, yet always innovative and interesting, especially in terms of orchestration and color. Salonen is a master of orchestration. Wing-on-Wing is a true highlight to me, and can stand right side by side with his earlier opus magnum, LA Variations. Especially the two sopranos shine, and the 'duets' they perform against the orchestra are truly stunning.

Highly recommended.

PS: When does he make his next recording with the LA Phil?

5 out of 5 stars sublime and fascinating.......2006-02-25

I could not agree more with the next reviewer: this is one of the most cohesive collections I've heard; each track segues effortlessly into the next. While the dissonance and atonality of much modern music grates on me; this CD is devoid of such things. The compositions are wonderfully luminous and the performer(s) approach rivets the listener. Excellent night-time composition music, seduction music- what have you. I strongly encourage you to take a chance on this!

5 out of 5 stars Insomnia- No Way! This one is hot!.......2000-06-16

The title is misleading if not down right dubious. This is one hot album. Gidon Kremer is a performer of rare ability and he is at his best with the broad range of composers featured here. He is accompanied by an excellent harpist Naoko Yoshino who adds her own special charm to these pieces. They work well together and their skills are clearly evident. This album is not for everyone; it challenges the listener and forces you to pay attention but it is worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Insomnia? No Way-This is for the living!.......2000-06-15

Gidon Kremer is at his most provocative best! The wide range of composers played here require all of his skill and he comes through. This album is not for everybody but those who want something new won't be disappointed. Naoko Yoshino's contributions on the harp are a delight in themselves and shouldn't be missed. From a musical point of view this is not for quiet nights! It gets you up and keep you up This album may challenge some people but that's one of its charms. Need a challenge go for it; its truly an adventure.

2 out of 5 stars All Undertone.......2006-07-15

David Julyan's score for the thriller "Insomnia" is,alas, less of a score and more of a rather monotonous undertone...One wonders if the director of this rather murky film instructed the composer in these terms;"Look,David,I don't want you to put a lot of effort into the score for my film...no..just a constant, ominous drone will do"??If you want to listen to about thirty minutes of the sort of generic "thriller"underscore that usually is written for grade Zee cheapies, then this is just the thing,However,if you are looking for a score that is both innovative and can stand alone apart from the film itself then skip this item entirely

4 out of 5 stars The Mournful Sounds that Keep the Insomnia Awake!.......2003-03-27

The music that David Julyan conducts for this film is almost superior to that of memento. The music fits the film 100%. The mournful and guilt ridden sounds of the music fit that of Pacino's character. It is a beautifully composed album. The opening title track fits over the bleak cold landscape of the opening sequence, very very well. If you liked the musis of Memento, then you will like this. BUY IT!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars Broodingly Atmospheric, Haunting - It matches the film.......2003-03-14

We have a wide range of reviews about this film, from the borderline pretentious that need to remind everyone it's a remake although the film does that itself (not to mention complain about it), to the ADD-inflicted "this was boring" crowd.

Ultimately, the score for this film effectively captured the brooding and occasionally melancholy tone. Personally, this may be one of the very few remakes that I thought was more effective than the original film, albeit they're both masterpieces.

I'm dropping a star for the score's monotony, but it's ultimately very smart, very tragic, and very beautiful. A magnificent film from a director that's really headed toward terrific fame. I can't wait for his Hughes biopic.

5 out of 5 stars Great music score from an awesome composer!.......2002-12-27

I am a fan of David Julyan's score from Memento (the reason why I bought the soundtrack to that movie, which is my favorite movie of all time!) so I automatically asked for this CD! I got it and I loved it! I like movie scores alot (anything from John Williams is a must have) but the scores to Memento and Insomnia are my favorites! I recommend this CD to everyone who saw the movie and enjoyed it! If you're a fan of Julyan's and don't have this CD, GET IT!!!...

3 out of 5 stars Would have been better to use the original film's score.......2002-07-05

I am not sure how many are aware that Insomnia is actually just a re-make of the 1996 Norwegian film Insomnia by Erik Skjoldbjaerg which won prizes at various international film festivals.
So, why the need for a re-make? True, I love Chris Nolan's work, and Memento is my all-time favourite film, so I hope that when Insomnia comes out that he has done it no injustice.
As for the soundtrack, what made the original film so impressive was the haunting, ambient soundtrack composed by Geir Jenssen, probably the leading ambient artist in the world. David Julyan may compose great soundtracks, but the original soundtrack should definitely have been used again. It set the atmosphere, with Geir Jenssen being from the actual city where the original was film. Now the new film has been relocated to the US (why? Nolan's British, isn't he?), your standard Americanization of any decent European film to make it a hit in the US box office, and the score has been changed. I have listened to the soundtrack (and still not seen the film), but if the film is anything like the original, the soundtrack now has none of the same monumental and chilling character that together with the beautiful imagery from within the Arctic Circle provokesd in me when I saw the original. Instead, the score strikes me as a bit bland and the strings don't really fit in, and it's as if I heard it all before in another soundtrack.

4 out of 5 stars Just Listen to It!.......2004-03-11

As a longtime fan of Incubus and also a classical music wonk, I had to buy this CD. I read the reviews of this album after I listened to it all the way through about twice and fell in love, but the reviews disappointed me. Obviously, people have a problem with changing what are already good songs. Also, it seems like most of the reviewers aren't listening hard enough, as all of the best songs are very easily recognizable. The only misses on this CD, the Morning View songs, frankly weren't that great to begin with. The Warmth is the best track here, becuase the slightly ominous tune was captured perfectly by strings. Make Yourself and Drive are also very good. With the exception of the Morning View songs, the composer chose the songs to reproduce with a great amount of consideration, because only the melodic Make Yourself tunes translate into classical. No one would have enjoyed a string version of Certain Shade of Green or Hilikus. All in all, a great buy, but if you don't like classical or if you only began listening to Incubus with the Morning View Sessions, then don't bother, because you just won't appreciate it.

3 out of 5 stars Expected more!.......2004-01-04

As a big Incubus fan and a violinist, I thought this CD had the potential to be fabulous. I will say that you can recognize most of the songs, and it is a peaceful, tranquil way to listen to Incubus. However, often the strings sound similar to tuning instruments in an Elementary School orchestra (boy does that take me back!). Perhaps they could have selected more experienced artists, because the Incubus songs are so beautiful.

1 out of 5 stars soo bad.......2003-11-25

this is the worst version of any incubus song, even my cat could wail an incubus song better than this. even if i ever did recognize any not of this as being an incubus song, its still crap. Most of this CD is an unrecognizable slice of junk. Buy a proper INCUBUS cd!

5 out of 5 stars HOLY ka-NOLY! hot DANCER SPA-coal-EE!!!.......2003-09-27

very well done. musically creative. if you truely apriciate incubus, and you also appriciate the classical music. this album was put together very well. its a good album to relax to while driving and you just want to be calm.or sleeping to or whatever.
you can TOTALLY tell what songs are what. and after listening to this album, you will have a new look on incubus and there creativity. but seriously...i know music. and this is good and well thought out music. ---chuck says "enjoy incubus!"

5 out of 5 stars absolutely beautiful.........2003-08-12

I just got this cd today. I've already listened to it 3 times. All I can say is it's amazing.. I'm a huge fan of Incubus and when I first heard this I was in shock on how amazing this quartet could play.Just get it.. you won't be let down

Red's Funkorama and Keith's This That Ish. That's about it.

4 out of 5 stars 6 Billion Feet Beneath, Where The Def Squad Dwells... {4 Stars}.......2006-06-28

Sleep if you want to, but this a seriously ill album. Erick Sermon shows why he is one of the best producers in hip hop history with albums like this. Even the tracks where the MC isn't all that great, the Green Eyed Bandit's production keeps your ears glued to the stereo speakers. Bangers like "The Vibe", "Reign", "On The Regular", "Fear" (R.I.P. Tommy Gunn), and "I Feel It" are tight vintage tracks from the Def Squad crew. "Funkorama" and "It's That Hit" are timeless, classic Funklord productions that take this album from good to great. Even the WFDS interludes are on point.

There are a few passable tracks, but not many. "Up Jumps The Boogie" suffers from sleep inducing production while "Ready For War" is hindered by Domo's weak lyrics. I'm not sure how many people remember Keith Murray's single "Get Lifted", but that single contained a b-side called "Pay Per View" that featured LBM, Passion, and Kel Vicious. On "As The..." Passion rehashes lyrics from that song (which is probably her best verse ever) and it brings nothing fresh to the table (though the beat, again, is superb) and makes things kind of boring. Don't get me wrong, Passion is nice, but she could've come more creative than that. And maybe I'm trippin', but I thought "Beez Like That" was definitely skip material.

When it's all said and done, cats will remember Erick Sermon as one of the best producers in hip hop history. When I look back at this album, I feel like it's the perfect representation of the Funk Lord's sound -- bass heavy, rugged, smoked out funk (even though Redman and Rockwilder do lend production assistance). Amazon is selling this album for a penny. I'd take advantage of anyone foolish enough to sell at that price and snatch this one up. Highly recommended.

Standout Tracks: Reign, Funkorama (My Favorite), Fear, It's That Hit, The Vibe, On The Regular, and I Feel It

5 out of 5 stars very underated album.......2005-09-06

this album was released in 1996, this is the type of album you would play only at night when cruisin' in your car or when the sunset come or the sun rises. this album has very dark production from erick sermon and some of best beats. If you like mid 90's east coast hip hop then this is 4 you. i'll review the songs for you.

1.Intro- it's just radio personality cherry martinez talking about redman's new single funkorama.(produced by redman) (co-produced by erick sermon)(3/5)
2.Funkorama- hot single, the video for it is just straight hood. this to me is one of redman best songs that he put out.(5/5)
3.The Vibe- good song by cross-breed. he also appears on case closed on redman's muddy waters album. (produced by redman)(5/5)
4. As The...- hot beat by erick sermon. rapper passion ripping the song to bits.very lyrical. (produced by erick sermon) (5/5)
5.Beez Like That- a song by jamal and calif, jamal very lyrical, he also released his first album last chances,no breaks. he was also in the teenage group illegal. the beats ok it's erick's best. (produced by erick sermon).(4/5)
6.It's That Hit- a hot song by keith murray when he was good until he fell off.the only thing that bothered me about this so ng is that it's edited for some reason.plus he was in trouble around this time for hitting a fan with a barstool across the face.damn keith you're a angry brother,chill.(4/5) (produced by erick sermon). (4/5).
7.Up Jump The Boogie- a hot song by a unknown group called the wixton's. they can flow and the beat fits them. i love beats like this.erick should of still make beats like this but he kind of fell off too on the beats. (produced by erick sermon). (5/5).
8.Caller's Interlude- it's just cherry martinez answering phone calls and redman calls and gives shout outs and erick sermon also calls and give shout outs. nothing special. (3/5).
9.I Feel It- A hot song by keith murray's click L.O.D. one of the hottest song on the album. hard drums and a haunting trumpet chord the one you would here on oz when someone dies. dark beat.(5/5) (produced by erick sermon)
10.On The Regular- a song by duo, believe to be erick sermon's sister and her partner t-man, she's not bad, a nice dark beat, it's alright nothing special.(3/5) (produced by erick sermon)
11.Fear- A hot song by tommy gunn, from the west coast, and is actually good, the beat has a dark jazzy type feel to it. gave me goosebumps when i first heard it. sadly not long after he was fatally shot.it's a sshame that all good artist got to leave. (5/5).(produced by erick sermon)
12.Ready For War- a song by domo. i didn't really like this song too much, it sounded like erick sermon didn't put enough emphasis to this beat, i felt like erick could've done better. (2/5).
13.reign- a hot song by erick sermon. erick's solo song, the beat is very dark, he just basically talks about him being just the champion but a hot song one of my favorites. this song should've been on erick's second album ''double or nothing''.

overall, this is a very dark album, and this album is a underground classic that should've been promoted better, some of these songs should've been in the new jersey drive soundtrack. if you're tired of listening to carbon copy hip hop then just pop this cd in and chill. and it's good to play when you're goin out at night or just to chill to. they don't make hip hop like this any more. support real hiphop.

4 out of 5 stars ILL.......2005-07-27

Here you have a sample if each DEF SQUAD member and what they bring to the table. Very slept on, however I feel its better than any of the def squads LP's. Ill production and tight rhymes Nuff said~

3 out of 5 stars not too good.......2005-06-16

I agree with the other reviewer here, redmans 'funkorama' and jamals 'it beez like dat' tracks are the only thing that are giving this a 3 star because it's not too good at all. I like the 'double or nothing' album a year before and was expecting this to be like that with production and rhymes from seeing the 'funkorama' video, but i was let down and that was the whole highlight with jamals track adding to it to make it just under 10 minutes of the full length CD worth listening to. Def squad is dead now even though they might still be rapping, I don't find myself going out to buy any of their s#it since redmans 3rd album which was good. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who wants to use their money in a sensible and satisfactory way. Theres plenty of other things you could get that would last you longer than 10 minutes before you punch the stereo button off. If you can get those 2 tracks only, get them in any way (!!?!!), otherwise AVOID LIKE GIRLS WITH CHLAMYDIA

  1. Delta 1 Hz Ambient Music Entrainer

Product Description

Brainwave Sound Solutions presents the 60 minute Delta 1 Hz entrainer, designed to induce the deepest sleep and relaxation possible through sound. Delta is a low level of brainwave activity present during deep dreamless sleep. Studies have shown that stimulation of the brain at frequencies between 0.5 to 2 Hz can induce deep states of relaxation and calmness. Individuals with insomnia or with high levels of anxiety or depression, or those suffering with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or night terrors may have difficulty achieving delta wave sleep. Studies of patients with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue have shown alpha wave intrusion into delta sleep, inhibiting the body's ability to relax its musculature, and leading to fibrosis and chronic pain. As anyone with sleep problems will tell you, poor sleep affects nearly every facet of life and leads to poor concentration, daytime fatigue, depression, irritability, and a host of other problems. This Delta 1 Hz entrainer has been designed to promote lower delta brainwave activity in those with insomnia, anxiety, post traumatic sleep disturbances, nightmares, and poor sleep quality, allowing individuals with anxiety and insomnia to let go of stress and worry, and drift off into deep refreshing sleep. The entrainer can be played at low volume continuously throughout the night, to help maintain healthy sleep patterns, is safe for use with children and adults, and can be used to facilitate deep meditative relaxation if listened to while awake, as well as help with facilitate brainwave switching into lower rhythms, giving the brain a chance to reset and remodel itself, and achieving alternate patterns more consistent with restful sleep and relaxation for a happier, healthier mental state of mind. For further information on this or other Brainwave Sound Solutions products, please refer to the product and information sections of our web site, at http://www.brainwavesounds.com/.
