Amazing singing.......2006-12-24
Caballe sings these songs with a great deal of emotion and apparent joy. The coloratura is better than any I have ever heard from her, absoluely precise and totally thrilling, she even trills! Whomever wrote the variations she sings isn't credited, but they are much more complex than any I have heard on other recordings of the Italian Melodies. I've been a Caballe fan for a long time, but this recording took my breath away.
An Absolute GEM!!!!.......2005-09-21
This c.d. is not only a gem, but a "must have" c.d. for anyone who appreciates great singing. To find this collection of Italian songs and airs on any c.d. is a rarity and to have an artist such as Caballe singing them is a sure treat! I bought this c.d. on a whim and I instantly fell in love with it. I would have to say that this is one of my most favorite c.d.s that I currently own.
As a singer myself, I find Caballe's voice to be more than fitting for this style of singing. She possesses amazing control and her pianissimos are INCREDIBLE! Having heard songs like Se tu m'ami and Pur dicesti over a million times in my life, she makes them sound exciting and new with amazing ornamentation and artistry.
The Bellini,Vivaldi and Rossini songs are so wonderful in her voice! Caballe has such a warm, rich tone and has an incredible capability of moving her voice like nobody's business. Not having been familiar with some of these songs, I was pleasantly surprised to find a lot of songs that I would love to add to my own repertoire and others that I just love to hear on a regular basis.
It's a must have double disc set with no translations unfortunately, but that's probably due to the fact that there's over 30 songs here. Sound quality is great! I cannot express enough how much I love this c.d. I'm almost tempted to buy another one just in case I scratch or lose my current copy.
