Best of Kiri Te Kanawa / Mozart, Wagner, Puccini, Schumann, Legrand

Whether this is truly the "best" of Kiri Te Kanawa's recordings is a moot point; suffice it to say that it's pretty good. Fiordiligi's two arias from Così are splendidly sung and thought out--what a fine Mozart singer she is! The Bohème excerpts are sweet (and Richard Leech is a nice Rodolfo), but they'll hardly erase memories of your favorite Mimi. The same can be said for Dame Kiri's Tosca, but her "O mio babbino caro" remains world class. The two excerpts from Tannhäuser are beautifully done, while a song each by Schumann and Holst are nicely intimate. And if you can stomach Michel Legrand's "The Windmills of Your Mind," you're stronger than most people. Kiri's fans won't be disappointed. --Robert Levine

... and watch " A Room With A View " and listen to " O Mio Bambino Caro " ... sung by Kiri ... and don't jump in the Arno river

3 out of 5 stars Beautiful voice / Poor Sound Engineering.......2000-03-30

The song selection on this CD is very good (4*); however, the recording quality on some tracks are below what one would expect from a 1999 release of a current artist (2*). This is especially true with the atrociously recorded "In the Bleak Midwinter" during which one can actually hear static noise. The overall recording volume is also significantly lower than an average CD. Even a high-end audio system can not fully compensate for the sub-par recording quality. Such unprofessional sound engineering from a current artist & CD is unacceptable.
