Editorial Reviews
Peter Burwasser, Philadelphia City Paper, April 18-25,2002
Just the right balance between beautifully polished and sophisticated presentation and sweet, naive emotional core. Radiates a love for music-.
Rosetta Goodkind, Piano Faculty, Manhattan School of Music, New York City
An excellent collection of important, attractive piano favorites-elegantly and expressively performed. I have recommended the CD to my students.
Album Description
A collection of favorite piano classics for the young and the young at heart, "Julia's Gift " features short imaginative pieces by composers from Bach to Debussy-- a gamut of eras and styles that is both a listening delight and an overview of the development of classical music. Each of the compositions is wonderfully selected and performed with mastery and great beauty. The disc includes works by Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann, Grieg, Macdowell, Chopin, Ibert and Debussy. Ms. Vieland's liner notes briefly discuss each composer's place in musical history and each of the works she plays. The notes are charming and illuminating and make the music even more accessible. The inspiration for the CD came from Julia Vieland's desire to leave a musical legacy for her five grand children ranging in age from two to twenty seven The CD which was intended as a small home-project-a keepsake- a record of their family musical heritage took on a life of its own. Now instead of a simple home-made tape, "Nana" as the children call her , produced and stars in a professional compact disc "Julia's Gift" which is available in many stores in the Philadelphia area, including the gift shop"Intermission " at the new Kimmel Center for Performing Arts.
Listeners of varied musical tastes and experience have found this CD captivating ,inspiring and uplifting. It is of special interest to teachers and students of piano, present and past, evoking sweet nostalgia. It is also appealing and useful to class room teachers in the elementary grades and makes a wonderful gift for parents, children, and people of all ages.

Using this CD as a foundation for Suzuki-style education.......2004-07-04
In his books, Shinichi Suzuki, the renowned developer of Suzuki music education for children, suggests that every child listen to Mozart's Twelve Variations on Twinkle Twinkle Little Star each day starting in infancy, so that these melodies are firmly ingrained in the memory, in preparation for future instrument lessons. I purchased this CD in order to follow that recommendation. My daughter enjoys listening to it in the car, and before she was two years old, she could hum much of the twelve variations.
To lift your spirits.......2002-09-10
This collection of familiar works just plain makes you happy. The performing artist has such a pleasant touch and movement. The combination of beautiful music and beautiful playing brings joy. When I am a little down, I put on Gift and by the end of Twinkle Little Star and right back up. It is so clean and fresh and you can just feel the love with which the CD was created. I want to make Julia's gift my gift to those I love. thank you Julia.

I played many of these timeless piano classics as a child, and as an adult, and found Julia Vieland's performances to be completely satisfying.
Julia's Gift: Perfect for the Music Classroom.......2002-07-10
Julia Vieland is an outstanding pianist with an obvious love and respect for children. These attributes are evident when one listens to her new CD entitled "Julia's Gift," available at Amazon.com, a collection of piano solos from Bach to Debussy. Given to me by the mother of one of my students, I have played selections from "Julia's Gift" many times for my elementary school students. The short pieces and movements that Vieland selected fit perfectly with the way I use recorded music in my classroom. Typically, I don't like to play parts of pieces because I want my students to hear works in their entirety. This CD allows me to do that. My students particularly enjoy Vieland's sensitive interpretations of Schumann's "Scenes from Childhood." After they're given the descriptive title of a selection, they listen, then let their imaginations go. If you enjoy piano music and want your children or your students to love it too, buy a copy of Julia Vieland's CD. "Julia's Gift" is a gift to everyone who enjoys great music.
