This disc was one of the very first "crossover" albums and one of the most successful as well. Nowadays when projects like this one flood the market, it's easy to forget just how original this program of transcriptions, folksong arrangements, and classical favorites really was. Not only does Galway serve up a wide variety of music in an easy, popular format, but he does it in a way that never compromises his musical integrity and that fully conveys his good humor and sense of fun. Of its type, Annie's Song is a superb compilation and the high point in Galway's discography. --David Hurwitz
