    As I was driving home one evening, I was tuned into National Public Radio as "Faire is the Heaven" was played. The emotional outburst that followed immediately caused me to purchase this recording. It is simply heavenly. The tone quality and blend of these singers is amazing. Even on average computer speakers, the sounds will take you to a different place.

    I highly reccomend this album.

    The theme of this CD, "Blessed Spirit" is the music of heaven & our journey to heaven. You can tell John Rutter had a part in producing this beautiful music. It's an imaginary voyage, of course, with 18 selections presented here, and it is some of the most peaceful & beautiful music you might ever hear performed by the wonderful Clare College Choir. It's a inspiring collection of music from different eras and traditions. It's great to sit back, relax, and just let go and enjoy the music and beautiful voices of this choir. This is a follow-up to "Ilumina" , another great choral CD, and this marks the second appearance of the Choir of Clare College on this label. Highly recommended.

    From the foreword: ''the chants of the liturgia dufunctorum (Liturgy of the dead) originate from two celebrations: the Order of Burial and All Souls' Day on 2nd November. Nothing is known about these chants before the eight and ninth cnturies, because the manuscripts of that period only recorded the verbal texts of the readings and prayers. Yet, starting from the 10th century, music manuscripts reveal the existence of a repertoire that will consist of more than a hundred chants.''
    This was some information. But now I must say that this cd is brilliant, excellent, of immense emotional power! It is one of the best gregorian chant recordings I've ever heard. So clean, pure almost ''otherworldly''. Featured inside are the complete lyrics in latin.
    Technically the chants are sung by a cantor (Alessio Randon) and a female choir (Aurora Surgit).
    But enough talking, just listen to the Requiem Aeternam and Epistula samples to be convinced of its beauty/greatness/ability to reach and quake your heart....

      This recording of Frank Lewin's sacred music is the fourth in his series on Albany Records. Other recordings include an opera, a disc of song cycles, and a recording of music written for films and television documentaries. The major work on this offering is the Mass for the Dead, in English, which was written as a requiem for Robert F. Kennedy. As the composer states, “The impetus for writing this Mass for the Dead came as I stood on the platform at Princeton Junction, amid a crowd of silent onlookers, as the train bearing the body of Robert F. Kennedy slowly rolled by on its way from New York to Washington. Vatican Council II had recently decreed that services were to be conducted in the vernacular, and thus this requiem mass was set to English words. It was first performed during a memorial service for Kennedy a year after his death on May 27, 1969.…”

      The singing is flawless and deeply moving.

      But why does track 13 - Ubi Caritas - insist on starting AFTER the music has already begun. When approached from number 12, it works fine. But to cue the thing (which is why I bought this CD), you have to BACK UP to hear the song from the beginning.

      I thought it was just my CD or my player - but NO, the flaw is on this web page too.

      Still, this is a treasured CD.

      This album from one of the world's greatest organists, John Scott, is one of the most beautiful musical tributes to those who lost their lives in 9/11. The Nunc Dimittis is one of the most haunting versons of this traditional prayer ever written.

      I like collections from different types of choral music (like a requiem. This is a great album for people who don't know a lot about Requiems. The only thing I didn't like was the instrumental music. I RECCOMEND IT!

      As an avid classical music listener, and cellist, Classical Heat was the perfect blend of energized, fast-paced works, and then on the second disk, a more mellow, yet still firey, works. I would recommend this CD set to every classical listener, even people that don't normally like the classical genre will enjoy this cd.

      Trumpet blasts, french horn flares, all the way to the subtle reeds of the bassoon. This album will keep you interested and awake all the way through.       I couldn't believe how bad the sound quality on these cd's was. I thought Opera D'Oro cd's were bad. These sounded like they were copied from a tape player that recorded from popping and clicking LP's. What amazed me was how easily the sound distorted at the lowest volume. Yeesh!

      I found these discs to be different and interesting. They get kind of repetative after a while though, but I like the change of pace. I suppose if I was more into this kind of music I may have a more positive reaction!
