This is a collection from previous Trio Sonata recordings, but only one has appeared on CD before: the title song, a memorable little piece that opens the disc. This collection has just one true trio sonata (by Bach), along with a lovely performance of the first of Haydn's London Trios. The remaining music covers a wide range, from Bach and Scarlatti through Berlioz and Satie to a piece by the ensemble's oboist, Donald Bender. The pieces are short and tend toward the lyrical; the performances and arrangements are truly lovely, exploiting the tonal characteristics of flute, oboe, and guitar as well as the players' excellent musicianship. This may be Classics Lite, but it's still excellent. --Leslie Gerber

This ensemble is clearly out to entertain. The program includes three genuine Baroque trio sonatas (Telemann, Quantz, and Vivaldi), all stylishly played on modern flute, oboe, and guitar. The remainder of the program includes lightweight Baroque and accessible contemporary pieces, mostly in arrangements. None of this is very important, perhaps, but the members of the group all play extremely well, individually and together; and their performances are stylish and entertaining throughout. One new piece, an arranged song by Torgerson called, "Clear out of Touch with Time," has proven to be the group's biggest "hit," and it's lovely. Highly recommended for quiet times or cocktail parties. --Leslie Gerber
