Album Description
Among the most appealing chamber music for woodwinds are compositions that blend the tonal colors of the clarinet and bassoon. The repertoire for this pairing of woodwinds, with or without keyboard, is one of the largest among any combination of two mixed woodwinds. The earliest works for clarinet, bassoon and keyboard date from the Classical Period (1750-1825), e.g., Six Sonatas for clarinet, bassoon, and harpsichord by C.P.E. Bach (1714-1788); Fantasie for clarinet, bassoon, and piano by Friedrich Berr (1794-1838); and Six Trios, op. 18 for clarinet, bassoon, and basso continuo by Johann Baptiste Wanhal (1739-1813). Repertoire for this instrumentation grew modestly during the 19th century with works such as Michail Glinkas often performed Trio Pathétique and Conradin Kreutzers Trio. Music for clarinet, bassoon and piano has enjoyed most of its success during the 20th century with a substantial number of composers contributing works, including Heitor Villa-Lobos, Stanislaw Skrowaczewski, Alec Wilder, and Jindrich Feld. Concentrating specifically on 20th/21st century music for this genre, the performers have explored these new compositions, many of which are unpublished, no longer in print, or newly published. Compositions selected were chosen for their appeal to both the audience and the performers, and to showcase the diversity among them.
Clearly Three - Trios from the Twentieth Century, Music, Benjamin Gutiérrez, Christopher Weait, Gerhard Wuensch, Otto Ketting Ivana Loudová, Clearly Three, Kristine Klopfenstein Fletcher (bassoon)","Barbara Wimunc-Pearson (piano) Richard Fletcher (clarinet)", Clearly Three performs an international collection of trios for Clarinet, Bassoon, and Piano; this music is exciting, amusing, and full of passion.
