God knows how the producers of this series decided which works to put in the Meditations for a Quiet Dawn and which to put in Meditations for a Quiet Night and which ones in Meditations at Sunset. There's no point speculating what the producers, in their wisdom, were thinking, beyond how to get the disc into your hand. That said, this really is an innocuous compilation. The works include the much-compiled Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams as well as single movements by Ives, Haydn, Tchaikovsky and Rachmaninoff. The very respectable ensembles featured include the English String Orchestra, the English Symphony Orchestra and the BBC Welsh Symphony Orchestra. --Gwendolyn Freed
