Leapday Night

Editorial Reviews
Michael Draine, Sound Choice
"The two compositions (Leapday Night and Interspecies Smalltalk) on this LP unite an interactive computer music system designed by David Behrman with improvisations by new music virtuosos Takehisa Kosugi, Ben Neill and Rhys Chatham. The arhythmic (but never jarring) electronic pulses invest the work with a warmth and beauty I'd have thought beyond the capacity of a computer music system to generate. Leapday Night is both a ground breaking effort in the field of systems music and a highly pleasurable listening experience."

American Record Guide
"Among the best contemporary electronic music I know: engaging, effective, and human. This is an important release."

Album Description
With three groups of compositions, Leapday Night, A Traveller's Dream Journal, and Interspecies Smalltalk, Behrman creates thickly layered liquid sounds. This music utilizes a complex computer music system which absorbs, actually hears, the sounds of instrumentalists (violinist Takehisa Kosugi, trumpeters Ben Neill and Rhys Chatham, and keyboardist Clara Mondshine), then plays off their improvisations with its own synthesized reactions.
