Editorial Reviews
Album Description
This disc was recorded on the historically important 1902 Lyon & Healy pipe organ at Our Lady of Sorrows Basilica in Chicago. The organ, tonally intact, is the largest extant instrument built by the Chicago-based Lyon & Healy firm. The music includes popular Victorian pieces as well as lush contemporary settings of African-American spirituals. In recognition of the importance of the countless weddings and funerals that have taken place in the Basilica, Martin Pazdioch sings two compositions that are dear to the hearts of many Catholics: Panis Angelicus and Ave Maria.
