Customer Reviews:
The greatest Haydn Sonata recording ever?.......2007-05-25
While writing a review of Hamelin's Haydn double cd, I checked the availability of this disc and noticed the clear Amazonian neglect.
There is no accounting for taste, but I think this disc can be considered among the best Haydn and piano recordings ever made. The interpretation and piano playing are truly out of this world. In addition, this recording is technically among the very best that I own.
It is too bad that Pogorelich flame went so dim so fast. Even faster than Van Cliburn's. Yet, and in despite of its current outrageous price, this is a disc that every even moderate pianophile should own.
Absolutely ingenious!.......2004-08-03
Mr. Pogorelich has the incredible ability to control the tonality of every single note. The fast ornamentions, or slow phrases flow with such a irresistibly charming and original nature. He plays with the classical rigour yet the music is filled with fantasy. His superb technique did not result at all even a bit of emptiness within. As a performer, he possesses both sense of calmness and emotional sensibility. All of his recordings are highly recommended for listening and analyzing for a fuller understanding of this genius!
