Werk's review.......2003-02-09
The arrangements of the pieces portrayed are tremendous. As always, Linda Wang's performance is outstanding. "You should hear her in person, when she performs at the 'Peninsula Symphony' this February 8th". Erste Klasse!

The carmen fantasy is definitely the best of the album!
Linda is Amazing!.......2000-10-24
Linda Wang demonstrates an amazing gift in her debut CD release for 2000.
Whether you are a classical music officianado or just getting into the category, you'll love the experience Linda Wang's formidible talent offers.
The selection chosen ranges from variations of the coy "Carmen Fantasy" from Biset's Opera to the deeply stirring "Meditation from Thais" by Jules Massenet. Equally powerful are Chaccone in A Minor from Partita No. 2 by Bach and variations on Sonata No. 1 for violin and piano in A minor by Robert Schumann.
Linda's grace and style that makes this one of the must have classical selections of this year. Buy it for yourself or buy it for someone special this holiday season!

Passion and Precision.......2005-03-08
Linda Wang is one of the fine, upcoming violinists. She is disciplined and precise, but emotionally speaking she delivers the goods. I would compare her approach with that of George Szell as opposed to Leonard Bernstein or Sir Georg Solti, just to draw an analogy. All three pieces in this recording receive intense, passionate and yet fully appropriate treatment from both Ms. Wang and her able accompanist, Sebastien Koch. I was especially delighted with the finale of the Saint-Saens, though the Grieg is also impressive. Janacek, as always, is a bit less approachable but Ms. Wang does justice to his temperament and opened new windows onto this piece for me. I caught echoes of some of the extraordinary feeling that pervades his powerful string quartets.
I was privileged to have heard Ms. Wang in person recently. She was gracious and warm on stage and told charming anecdotes in connection with some of the pieces; she also generously remained afterward to autograph her CD's. It was an ambitious program: Beethoven's 8th sonata, the Schumann first sonata (which she has also recorded), Debussy's sonata (which she played without music and played rapturously) and the "Carmen Fantasy" by Sarasate. I found the Beethoven a bit less warm than I like it (Ann-Sophie Mutter and Zino Francescatti are more my style), but when she played the Schumann, I was persuaded, then converted, then ultimately transported. This is an intense and emotional piece and her playing gave it even more warmth and color than I have been accustomed to hearing: parts of it positively smoldered. It was a gorgeous performance. I got her other CD just for the recording of the Schumann, even though I already have the piece. The technically demanding Sarasate (which she mentioned she played impromptu one day with a band of gypsies on the street in Hungary) she also played without taking liberties with the tempo. I felt a little less excitement with this than I had expected at first, perhaps because she does not take so many liberties with the piece as some musicians might, but when she got into it and as the finale approached, there were real fire and brio - and then the audience was on its feet, applauding and cheering. I am a fan of Ms. Wang's and - I believe - with substantial reason. She does not disappoint.
