Good Gershwin.......2006-12-03

I heard this recording on my Nakamichi Premium sound system in my Lexus yesterday and it sounded very good to me. On that basis, I cannot agree with Ms. Tovey's conclusions on sound quality. However, I reserve my final opinion on the dynamic range and overall sound quality of the recording until I hear it on my home system. I thought it was very clean and sounded a lot like the old Mercury Living Presence recordings.

Ms.MacGregor's performance was even reminiscent of the Mercury recording by Howard Hanson and the Eastman-Rochester Symphony with Eugene List as soloist. MacGregor's performance compares favorably with Michael Tilson Thomas, whom I consider the finest interpreter of Gershwin's music today, both as conductor and pianist. Carl Davis and the LPO give MacGregor fine support. I heard enough to want to buy the CD, if, hopefully, I can find one, as it is not available from Amazon.

Having heard MacGregor in concert we were looking forward to this CD. However, the quality was not what we had hoped for - for general sound quality and sound loud/soft fluctuations. Marge Tovey
