This is the most incredible Christmas album I have ever heard. If I could only have one this would be it. These guys are talent personified.

It's really sad to see that no one else has reviewed this absolutely wonderful Christmas collection. We have a tremendous collection of Christmas CD's, and this ranks as one of the best. The gentlemen sing with such conviction, passion, and most of all, they sing with joy. They are truly ministers of the word of Christ and their music exemplifies a vastly changing Christian music scene. Unlike many of their contemporaries, PCD combines secular and spiritual songs with such finesse and respect that the entire CD is spiritual in that it never forgets who the real "star" of this holiday is!
Opening with the perennial Gospel favorite "Go Tell It On the Mountain," teamed up with "Amen," the trio puts spirit and joy in this uplifting medley. Their next medley of "How Great Our Joy/Joy to the World" is likewise toe-tapping and inspirational. They soar on a dark, yet hopeful, version of the Advent tune, "O Come O Come Emmanuel." This beautiful song is often treated as mournful and forboding; this version truly captures the anticipation of a people desperately waiting for their saviour. Their treatment of "I'll Be Home for Christmas" is fittingly nostalgic and touching. The addition of the 40's style radio is a nice touch. Bounce along with their wonderful interpretation of Leroy Anderson's classic "Sleigh Ride." Three of the CD's best cuts follow: the moving "Call His Name Jesus," the gorgeous tribute to the Virgin Mary called "Be It Unto Me," which parallels Mary's destiny with our own; and the joyful "The Kid in Me" which praises the wonders of the season that makes us all feel like kids again. Their teaming of the powerful "O Sanctissima" with the chorus from "O Holy Night" is awesome. And just when you thought the guys couldn't top themselves, they give us "The Chipmunk Song" as the finale. And are they ever having fun! We do, too, every time we listen to this remarkable CD. We never tire of hearing it, and it's message of love, peace, hope and Christmas joy is outstanding. If you like really good Christmas music with impeccable vocals, "Repeat the Sounding Joy" belongs in your collection.

Sweet Seraphic Fire brings together two unique bodies of American sacred song: choral compositions from the New England singing-school tradition and the most popular Evangelical Protestant hymn texts in historic American use. In the late eighteenth century the New England singing-school movement produced America's first great sacred-music style, employing several genres of unaccompanied four-part choral compositions with the melody in the lead (tenor) part. The enormous popularity of singing-school music also promoted a canon of hymn texts shared across America's competing Evangelical Protestant denominations. This recording contains neglected masterworks from the New England singing school that also helped to create the American hymn canon. Marking a more recent turn in this process, we have also included some new settings of traditional Evangelical lyrics written by leaders in the revival of singing-school music that has blossomed in the Northeast since 1976. ! Selection of pieces for this recording was determined by correlating "The Norumbega Harmony"--our collection of one hundred six historic New England singing-school compositions and thirty contemporary works in traditional style--with a list of the three hundred most frequently printed hymn texts in America from 1737 to 1960. --Stephen Marini

This is a REALLY cool album of shape-note singings, I particurlarly like EVERY STRING AWAKE and ANTHEM FOR EASTER.
Some of the songs are kind of dreary, (Hatfield) but all in all this is COOL!!!

Glenn Close absolutely lifts your Christmas spirit with her warm, soothing, powerful, showstopping voice. Palacio Domingo makes beautiful music. Combined together it is one of the best duos ever. With such songs as Joy to the World, Gesu Bambino, Carol of the Bells, I'll Be Home for Chrostmas, Here We Come A-Caroling, Deck the Halls, It's Christmas All Over the World, Silent Night Medley, Good King Wenceslas, For all the World, It's Christmas Time, Ave Maria, and Ding Dong Merrily on High. Glenn Close is incredible in this rare and obscure title. If you enjoy Glenn Close's 5-time Oscar nominated acting and Tony Award winning singing you'll love to hear her sing on this beautiful CD...if you don't enjoy Glenn Closes 5-time Oscar nominated acting and Tony Award winning singing (I don't see how[? ]) you'll still love this CD. Before she became a major film star she did many Broadway shows including "Barnum" and "Rex". After making such an impact on the screen she returned to the stage in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Tony award winning "Sunset Boulevard" as Norma Desmond (where she won a Tony, Drama's Desk Award, and others). With Palacio Domingo's luscious voice and Glenn Closes powerful and dramatic voice this is a must for anyone that enjoys Christmas music around the holidays. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
