5 out of 5 stars Originality, fun, sunshine.......2006-08-17

Super-talented songwriter Gilbert Hetherwick has put much love into this production. On it, is a song called, 'Alice please don't cry'. It is the most touching song I have ever heard. There's something special right at the end of the album too, but I won't give away what it is.

It's a bizarre album, full of story-telling, humour, effects, beautiful instrumentals and a variety of vocalists, including the incredible Irish-American singer Sheila Noonan who plays the part of Alice. Both the album's invigorating energy and Olympian calmness are amazing. Your children will love it, and it will fire their imaginations, but if you're one of those grown-ups who 'can NOT let go' and 'NOT grow old' you'll be dancing, laughing and crying to it too. Most of the text is original, and it's not just another 'Alice in Wonderland' set to music. It has plenty of depth. Even if you're a philosopher it will give you a lot to think about it.

Gilbert Hetherwick's Alice is a wonderful collection of songs that touch the heart and soul and show a side of "Alice" that you may not have heard.

I have at least 2 copies of this CD and 2 of the Demos which led to it.And I have the libretto, all from the artist who I got in touch with around 3 years ago.
Hetherwick is quite a clever guy he's a classical music producer for RCA for starters and his Dreams Of Alice began as a series of tapes for which he commissioned various friends to take part.
The results are just about the finest Alice work ever.A detailed insert explains just how it was born.
Unfortunately commercial recognition of this work is nowhere near that of others who adapt literary works for musicals, such as Andrew Lloyd Weber,Jeff Wayne or Rick Wakeman but its as good as anything those writers came up with.
Hetherwick has something of a pedigree in Rock.He was born in Louisiana the son of a lawyer and opened up at one time for the yet to be famous Tom Waits.
He's a big Dylan fan and his other 2 CDs include one of Dylan covers-mainly from his mid 60s period-and an original work called Deep South,a singer songwriter set of Americana.
His hobbies include travel and photography and there are many examples of the latter on his website
Dreams of Alice features Hetherwick in a few roles like the Cheshire Cat and Alice is played by Irish American singer Sheila Noonan.
This can't be praised highly enough
