Francesco Geminiani: Der Zauberwald (The Enchanted Forest) / Concerto Grosso, Op. 7, No. 4 / Concerto Grosso, Op. 7, No. 6 - La Stagione Frankfurt / Michael Schneider

Editorial Reviews
Album Description
Der Zauberwald (The Enchanted Forest)
Concerto Grosso in B flat major, Op. 7, No. 6
Concerto Grosso in D minor, Op. 7, No. 4

La Stagione Frankfurt
Michael Schneider, director

Francesco Geminiani belongs to the great, yet still unknown composers in Handel's, Bach's and Telemann's generation. Unlike his Italian compatriate composers, he totally ignored composing for voice and established himself as an ispired and knowledgable source for the violin and viola, writing in the last 15 years of his life the famous textbook: "The Art of Playing the Violin" op. 9 (1759).

With "The Enchanted Forest", Francesco Geminiani composed a piece of Baroque program music. His concerti grossi show signs of having been based on hidden programs. On this CD, La Stagione Frankfurt presents itself for the first time on Capriccio with a purely instrumental program.
