Album Description
Hailed by the prestigious magazine The Strad, as "stunning...brilliant", violinist Mihai Craioveanu has concertized throughout Europe and North America. Music critics have praised him for his extraordinary technique as well as subtle elegance and colorful sound. His acclaimed performances were heard in major music centers including London, New York, Paris, Los Angeles, Cleveland, and Bucharest. Craioveanu appeared at international music festivals of Edinburgh, Banff, and Bodensee. His performances were broadcast on major television and radio station in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe.
This season, Craioveanu will make his Carnegie Hall concert debut on the Weill Hall series in New York.

This CD recording is a collection of rare virtuoso works for violin of the romantic period, which was presented to the public for the first time, during Mihai Craioveanu's triumphant sold out Barcelona debut concert at the renowned Palau de la Musica. The disc was later presented on the Spanish national radio.

In the Variations on an Original Theme, Wieniawski combines the elegance of the theme and variations with dramatic recitative-like cadenzas and lyrical intermezzos.

The set of variations on Paisiello's popular aria Nel Cor Piu Non Mi Sento, is without doubt one of the most technically difficult and complex work in the violin repertoire. The introduction, theme, and seven variations, display every major technical element that can be performed on the violin.

Enescu's Romanian Rhapsody No. 1 is a magnificent and colorful example of intricate melodic patterns and rhythms that display a fascinating and exciting suite of Romanian folk dances.

Written in 1880, Balada is a lyrical work that combines the sad emotional content of a recurring theme, with bursts of joy and passionate moments, that mirror the spiritual heritage of Porumbescu's native land.

Paganiniana is a charming set of variations based on the famous theme from Paganini's Caprice No. 24 for solo violin. Each variation is reminiscent of some of Paganini's major compositions.

When Heifetz heard Dinicu perform Hora Staccato in concert, he was so impressed that he later asked Dinicu for permission to arrange it and perform it around the world. Ever since, this piece became Heifetz's signature tune.

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely stunning! One of the best violinists around!.......2002-02-06

Mihai Craioveanu is a brilliant virtuoso violinist! His playing has an amazing power of expression with tremendous, intense
passion. I am astonished at the wide array of colors displayed
by his sound, something that one misses greatly in the world of violin playing these days.
Craioveanu's technique is nothing short of incredible! His left hand pizzicato and up and down bow staccato, to mention only a few, are reminiscent of rare performances of the legendary
virtuoso violinists of the past.
This CD recording is unique. It offers a wonderful and entertaining selection of rarely played virtuoso gems, and a real fabulous violin playing in the grand style. I love it !!
I strongly recommend this recording to any violinist and music fan in the world! It is a MUST for one's personal recording collection, and for any public recording collection!
