5 out of 5 stars Second to None.......2002-04-11

I am a bassist in a major orchestra and I must say that Paul Bresciani's CD is one of the best bass recordings I have ever heard. His readings of Bottesini's Elegy and Koussevitzky miniatures are the finest I have come across. The other standouts on this remarkable album are fiery, ultra virtuosic readings of Boccherini's Sonata and Bloch's Baal Shem. Mr. Bresciani plays with incredible emotional daring and abandon, and draws a marvelous, honeyed tone from his bass. The photo of him rappelling on the cover is appropriate--he goes for it, takes incredible risks and succeeds.

5 out of 5 stars The bar has been raised.......2001-11-30

I can't say enough about this CD - Bresciani's musicality is unmatched. And as one would expect, the intonation is dead center. The Baal Shem is astounding! But what stands out to me, are the old "standby's". The Bottesini's and Koussevitzky's are just plain exquisite - they don't sound anything like the usual tired tripe you seem to always hear from other bass players. Really, have a listen to this CD - even if you are not a bass player.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD!.......2001-09-30

I know of Paul Bresciani as I am a bass player in the Cleveland area. Very extraordinary playing. I've never heard the Kouss Andante either. This certainly qualifies a must have for bass players.

5 out of 5 stars Great combination.......2001-09-25

Very interesting and enjoyable combination of instruments and selections. Looking forward to further collaborations from this duo.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite bass CD!.......2001-09-16

Wow - this is simply amazing and emotional bass playing! I've never heard another bass player (apart from Edgar Meyer) with this much soul AND perfect intonation! Where did this guy come from? Is he well known? Is he one of the climber's on the cover, as well?
