Album Description
From the success of their first album, "Incandescence", (also available here on Amazon), the Electric Music Collective returns, offering a fresh set of electro-acoustic soundscapes. From the evanescent noisiness of Evelson & Mizumachi's "745-Bit Cycle" and Douglas Geers' "Atomic Tango", to the playful humor of Polashek's "Miniature Odyssey" and Bailey's classic "Ooogaah", to the refined violence of Bittencourt's "Chimaera", this is music, these are sounds that will grab you, and not let you go . . . even after you've finished listening.

Damn the Defiant! (1962) was a seafaring adventure offering a twist on the familiar story of Mutiny on the Bounty: here the sea captain, played by Alec Guinness, is the humanitarian, while the first officer, Lt. Scott-Padget (Dirk Bogarde) is a ruthless career opportunist -- and borderline torturer -- whom the captain is at pains to keep at bay. The film featured intriguing character conflicts as well as exciting action scenes. Damn the Defiant! Damn the Defiant! Product Description

In the time before time, the angels fell upon the gear of Leo Fender and the heavens did not want for reverb and thunder. The Divine Creator found this favorable, until man was tempted by these soundsÂ…the sweating grinding pulse of surf punk music, and he chastised the angels and withheld his love. But in a daring glance the angels raised their heads to have the gaze of the almighty cast upon their cheeks. And the power of power smote them and cast them upon the cold stone and said to them, show thy face and behold the vengeance of thy lord. And The Defiant Ones laughed, spit, and played Miserlou so that it quaked the heavens and the earth. Forever cast out, these dark angels roam earth in search of retribution, reverb, and revenge. Know them and know the fury of Surf. So crank up the Hi-Fi and strap your ass down! The Defiant Ones are all about smashing your sensibilities with a high voltage two on the two punk surf beat. Bringing it on in a Fender fueled munitions package that will just knock your ass out! The Defiant Ones fuse bar chord punk , old school surf, and a sledge hammer to produce a sleek sonic asskicking.

5 out of 5 stars Barbed wire lyrics wrapped around whisky and gravel vocals.......2002-09-05

His sound? Barbed wire lyrics wrapped around whisky and gravel vocals. Hints of Springsteen, Earle and Lucinda Williams abound. But it's the wallop of soul in his passionate vocals and the earthy groove of his melodies that give Picott his own distinct sound.

He's just beginning to hit his stride as a writer; Slaid Cleaves took their co-write "Broke Down" to No.1 on the Americana charts. He's a narrative storyteller tapped into the trials and tribulations of the working class. He intuitively understands heartache, desperation, joy and small hopes (small, not inconsequential) ignore class boundaries. And because of that, his characters possess a certain nobility, a dignified humanity that belies their bleak circumstances. Plus the man can turn a phrase like nobody's business.

Give this man a listen, he's poised to become America's next great songwriter.

            Album Description

In the 1980's, Liu Sola was famous as the enfant terrible of contemporary Chinese literature. In this latest album from Also Productions, her spirit of rebellion and defiance of conventions are not only alive and well, but also given magnificent musical expression, in another ground-breaking performance which also features the work of master drum player Pheeroan akLaff. The sound overlays the primal force of heavy rock on Chinese drum styles; but listen carefully and you hear a very complex bass line, and Sola's voice, which by turns carries and decenters the melody. The result is an album, both sophisticated and physical, that will appeal to all jazz aficionados, rock enthusiasts, and just plain lovers of good contemporary music.

Kristin Plater's "24" is an excellent showcase for her moving songwriting, mature songcraft, and awe-inspiring vocals. Plater has a talent for making unique and personal experiences seem universal, as her relationship-themed lyrics vividly describe situations and perspectives that everyone can relate to. While her situations reveal an keen, everyman's sense of the connections that humans make with each other, her voice - gritty, powerful, beautiful - is uniquely singular. The production on the CD is eclectic and always interesting, lending muscle to Plater's songs. "24" is the CD of a fresh talent on her way to stardom - catch her slinky, sexy "Convince Me," her epic and powerful "Someone Else's Arms," the bluesy, bouncy "Lying," and "The Life I Need," which shows off Plater's voice masterfully. -Mark Miazga

Recently caught Kristin Plater performing live at a coffee house in San Diego. After only a couple of songs, I knew I had to buy her CD. She has a great voice for college folk/pop/rock. Her lyrics are clever and sassy, full of insight and emotion, and most important: a lot of fun. More sophisticated lyrically than Jewel, very reminicent of Jill Sobule. A richer voice than Sheryl Crow. Had a good rapport with the audience. If you're interested in the female singer/songwriter genre, Kristin Plater is definitely worth checking out. Kristin played some new works -- I look forward to additional releases.

11 tracks of intense, passionate music with roots in heavy rock and jazz. This album features a blend of fiery playing and tasteful, beautiful melody. Truly unique, this is not instrumental music that lacks soul, like much instrumental "smooth jazz" or pyrotechnical "instrumental rock", but instead music that has an energy that rivals the most frenetic punk rock band with a soulful quality that belies the group's strong ties to artists like John Coltrane, Jeff Beck and John McLaughlin.

I first heard of Paragon from a friend a while back. Since I trust my friend's taste in music I decided to check it out and I'm really glad that I did. It's one of those albums that holds my attention all the way through. The music is fun, intelligent, inspiring and most importantly, from the heart. That's something that can't be faked. This is a dynamic group of players that have a very refreshing sound and I recomend this cd to anyone. There's just a vibe about this group that I really like.
