This account from Fritz Reiner and the Chicago Symphony Orchesta has plenty of get-up-and-go, and comes coupled with outstanding interpretations of both Prokofiev scores. The sound is grainy but still quite vibrant. --Ted Libbey

This is one of the 10 greatest CD's that I have ever listened to.

The rendition of Alexander Nevsky is fantastic. Full of drama, passion, all without the excess romanticism of other versions. Reiner always stays true to the score.

He does the same with the Lt. Kije. From the opening trumpet solo to the very last note, the Chicago Symphony never faulters.

I think the excellence of Reiner and Chicago is generally known to most of those who listen to classical music. This CD is no exception. The sound is fairly clear, especially for a recording originally made in the late 1950s. Any fan of Prokofiev's film music will appreciate this disc!
