Wonderful.......2007-06-26
I bought this CD to listen to at work (I am 6 months pregnant). The quality is awesome and the choice of songs is perfect I can listen to it over and over.
Great for putting kids to sleep!.......2007-06-08
I absolutely love this CD! In fact this is our second one because we wore out the first since we played it so much. It is very soothing, and in fact we used it to help both our kids (now 4 and 18 mo) go to sleep since they were babies. I highly recommend it!
Very Relaxing.......2007-04-10
It is very soothing and really helps you relax. I enjoy listening to it in the car during my high stress commute.
A Must Have for all Parents of Little Children !!!.......2006-11-25
I bought this when my first baby was...well, a baby. That was 8 years ago. Now I am on my 4th copy of this cd (Mozart For Mothers to Be) and my 3rd child. Nothing works better. I'm on here to buy my 4th copy becasue I've worn them out over the years and have to keep replaceing them. My 8 and 3 year old still use it, and now the new baby, also. Make it part of your nightly bed time routine and you'll have good little sleepers in no time. I swear by it. It is very soothing, calming and not distracting so it won't drive you bonkers if you can hear it a little from the next room.
A truely great gift for new parents, or if you have a sleepless little one at home. Turn on the cd, turn down the lights and let it sooth them to sleep.
Inspire the baby-within.......2005-12-13
Beyond sheer musical appreciation and enjoyment, Mozart's music in general is ideal for gently stimulating the "creative centers" as well as instilling a sense well-being. While there is much academic disagreement about the extent or reality of the so-called "Mozart Effect," it doesn't take a genius to observe how Mozart's music puts most people (and probably babies-to-be) in a happy mood ready to take on the day's challenges. There is a simplicity - yet elegance and musical brilliance - in his music that is also well-suited for the youngest of children.
The selections on this CD are all excellent and represent a nice range of Mozart's compostions, emphasising those that are ideal for creating a pleasant backdrop for leisure, dining and social occasions ("divertimentos"). The recordings are from the creme of musicians famous for their Mozart. Few works are as elegant and soaring as the Serenade #10 for winds - an astonishingly beautiful tune made famous from the early scenes of the movie, "Amadeus." Mozart supreme gifts of music are even seen in such humble "background music" as these pieces. And such continuity of warm, leisurely tones as these over 70 minutes is ideal for inspiring the baby to-be if that is why you are considering this CD. Better to expose a baby to the gentile, lyrical music of Mozart than to the dissonant, loud and disturbing tones of some classical music written well after Mozart.
As the reviewer below rightfully notes, compilation CD's of various unrelated works like this one is not quite how classical music is best meant to be heard. But in a way it is better for many to start with such collections like this - especially for those who just want the more quiet selections that are unintrusive. In that respect, this collection can be satisfying for most anyone (not just moms or babies). I have a huge classical music collection, but still really enjoy listening to one full CD of similar-temperament music like this one that flows easily and smoothly that doesn't demand my attention but only seeks to delight. And, in the end, that was the simple and primary goal of many of Mozart's compositions - to be purely enjoyed and delighted.

forgotten masterpieces.......2007-02-22
I was a little surprised to see so many reviews for this CD, most of them are full of praise. As I, too, am full of praise I can be brief.
First I must confess that, after listening to Mozart for well over 40 years, it is only very recently that I came accross any of the works on these CDs. I heard the last movement of the string trio and went straight to the computer to get it. As last year was Mozart's 250th birthday and we were deluged with his music this is incredble.
The string trio K563 is a late work by a mature Mozart, it is a very fine work, beautifully played by Arthur Grumiaux and friends. The two duos for violin and viola is another great find for me, more superb Mozart. These do not have a bass line, the composition is so good that they don't need one, indeed I was well into them before I noticed that there wasn't one. In all of these works all the instruments are equals, there is lots of work for the viola and the cello too has an important role. The six preludes and fugues again were new to me, but I am getting to know them and love them.
This is another excellent recording of Mozart's chamber music from Philips Duo, and well worth full marks. I recommend it highly, especially for Mozart lovers. If you are not well versed in Mozart I might suggest that you start with his concertos and instrumental works before you buy these Cds.
Eclipsed.......2006-08-04
For me the point here is the K.563, and while I have loved Grumiaux's playing for decades, and this is a nice older [1967] recording, it is completely blown away by the recent recording by Yo Yo Ma, Gidon Kremer, and Kim Kashkashian. On the other hand, the latter recording is defective in that the technicians managed to make the violin sound shrill and harsh -- the usual suspects are of course recording engineers who've spent much of their careers blowing out their high-end hearing listening to and working with "rock and roll" recordings, and thus needing to boost the highs in order to hear them; at the same time, it was miked much too closely. At least the Philips recordings were done in an era when the engineers were older folks who had spent their careers listening to and recording music. My choice: the Ma / Kremer / Kashkashian CD, but with my treble control cranked down....
A style made for Mozart.......2005-08-26
Here is yet another great Mozart Philips recording featuring the elegant playing of Arthur Grumiaux. The String Quintets and Violin Concertos are other ones. When you hear Grumiaux play Mozart like this, you think, "Now, how can one top that?" Such a dignified, galante and poised style as his is perfect for Mozart's music. These two CD's provide a cournacopia of Mozart delights played magnificantly by Arthur Grumiaux and friends: three string duos, the one and only great string trio (K.563) and a rather unique collection of preludes and fugues mostly transcribed from Bach's "Well Tempered Clavier" for violin and viola. Each work also has an interesting story behind it as does most of Mozart's music.
Two of the late duos Mozart wrote were "ghost written" for a terribly ill Michael Haydn - a comtemporary and great friend of Mozart. As history goes, Haydn had promised a series of six duos for the impatient Archbishop Colloredo and was two short. Mozart's continual visiting the ill Haydn and lightening-fast composing of these two duos reveal the compassionate, warm-hearted side of Mozart. In each you can hear both Haydn and Mozart by the various musical mannerisms, but they eventually passed off as Haydn's works just fine.
The trio is a late work (K563/626) that was written in 1788 - the year that Mozart's popularity with the fickle Vieneese dwindled and life strarted to fall apart. But, one would never know this from the skill and stature of the great work. Having a full six movements lasting a full 45 minutes, the string trio is a work of grand scale and rich diversity that does not once become bogged down, repetitive or dull. The equality of the part writing is especially notable as much as is the complex sonorities, intelligent design and lyrical charm. It ranks right up there with his quintets as Mozart's most accomplished chamber works.
Perhaps the surprize delight of the set are the six preludes and fugues, most of which are transcribed from JS Bach (and one each from JC Bach and Mozart). It is said that Mozart's wife Constanze adored the fugues of Bach and Handel upon first hearing them in 1782 and supposedly begged her husband to compose such music - which apparently he obliged with these works here. Of course they sound like Bach as they mostly are Bach. The Grumiaux Trio makes them sound glorious from their rich and nuanced playing and the fine Philip's sound quality. Overall, a rich, rewarding listening experience.
If you are new to Mozart's chamber music, these Philips DUO sets are excellent CD's to collect. The most recommended Philips Mozart CD's are: The Great Piano Concertos Vol I, II, the Violin Concertos, Great Quintets Vol. I and II, the Piano Trios and String Trios/Duos here. Then, the Great Seranades, the six 'Haydn' String Quartets, the two Piano Quartets and Great Violin Sonatas Vol. I, II are also fine music.
A nice pair.......2005-06-22
Not much to add here: 1st CD: The string trio K. 563 is a peer to Mozart's greatest quartets and quintets. Period! The string duos K. 423 and 424 are simple in sound, but rich in texture; the simplicity of means calls for advanced composing and Mozart doesn't dissappoint. 2nd CD: The trio K. 266 is less interesting, but the six preludes and fugues are really great, fusions of Mozart and Bach. All the playing is excellent.
Nobody like Artur Grumiaux for Mozart violin music!.......2004-07-19
Joseph Szigetti gave a towering surprise with the ten violin sonatas , but Grumiaux was a real fighter for this Mozart music so plenty of lyricism.
The vibrato and musicality given for Grumiaux is out of this world. His playing is kindness enjoyable extremely cantabile and above all deeply idomatic , loaded with majesty and charm and intimacy.
This belgium violinist was a pupil of Georges Enesco . Pleas acquire also the trio Kv 563 . I've never a recording that rivalizes with that.
Certainly Grumiaux was a champion master in this field!
If you take a look around about the most remarkable string Trios, you will find out that these are not so many. Before that immense Mozart's Divertimento in E flat Kv. 563, written in 1788, we just find a dozen of Trios by Bocherini and after, Beethoven Piano Trios, Schubert, Tchaikovsky, Brahms. Dvorak Dohnayi, Webern, Roussel and Schoenberg. In this sense and taking into account the brief set it's obvious to state we are in presence of the most significant, pyramidal and complete string Trio ever written, not only because it was a true milestone in what concerns to structural complexity, lyrical density and enjoyable mood.
Surprisingly, it does not use to appear among the most extraordinary musical achievements ion the enormous musical legacy of the beloved son of Salzburg. But measure by measure, I wouldn't hesitate just for a second in what respects to include it among the ten best works of Mozart throughout his opulent and extraordinary production.
And particularly this version possesses that touch of genius and dazzling luminosity, filled of kind spirits, cheerful energy and rhythmic vitality.
This masterpiece by itself justifies plainly your inversion in this double CD, but additionally you will find out another treasures of highest level as both Duos for violin and viola, The Kv. 266 The six preludes and fugues for violin, viola and cello written as a profound and heartfelt homage in Bach's memory are astonishing and notable compositions by themselves.
So I think not to sin of exaggerate when I recommend you this extraordinary set, one of my most beloved albums of my personal collection and wishing for you to have. You will agree with me once you have acquired and enjoyed over and over.
It's almost useless to talk about the purity of spirit of Artur Grumiaux, one of the most distinguished, refined and honest violinists ever born as well as one of the maxim exponents of Mozart's repertoire for violin, and I don't think to sound exaggerate to affirm this record was one of his highest artistic peaks as musician.

Customer Reviews:
My new favorite.......2007-02-14
This is now my favorite recording of the WTC. Sensitive, intelligent, clear, much nuance, brilliant. Nice use of what my teacher called a Bach pedal. I wish Fellner would record the second book, and everything else.
The one to buy if you dislike Gould's style.......2006-04-02
The visual I get from Gould's playing is that of a man changing into a werewolf while playing a piano that is on fire and plummeting down the side of a mountain. I'm eternally thankful for Gould bringing Bach keyboard pieces into the mainstream repertoire, but I distinctly dislike his style. Fellner's rendition is everything Gould's is not: thoughtful, measured, fluidic. The ECM recordings are well-produced and offer clarity to match the quality of performance. I like Richter's version of WTC, but I think Fellner's lends the gravity due to a Bach piece. I sincerely hope that Fellner will go on to record WTC II, Goldberg Variations, and the English, Italian, and French Suites.
My top WTC ever!!!!.......2005-07-09
This is, in my opinion, the best recording of the Well-Tempered Clavier I have ever heard, beating out such greats as Glenn Gould and Edwin Fischer. The preludes were played with breathtaking finesse, imagination, and an amazing control that, paradoxically, only heightened the excitement of these pieces. One sensed incredible strength and energy held in reserve - but just barely. Anyone who thinks that Bach is "boring" must listen to this performance!
If the preludes were incredible, the fugues were more so. Till Fellner's ability to bring out not just one voice, but two or three *at once*, is not to be believed until you hear it. Even Gould and Fischer, my favorite Bach pianists, did not often demonstrate this extent of multi-layered complexity in their playing of counterpoint. The incredible intellect and imagination that I could sense behind the playing boggled my mind.
In short, this recording passed my litmus test for greatness - it grabbed my attention right from the start and WOULD NOT let it go.
Keep up the great work Till Fellner! I'd give this one six stars if I could.
Bach shines everywhere.......2005-04-15
What is so wonderful about Bach's music is that its harmonic and rhythmic lines shine forth everywhere as long as the performer understands and communicates those lines. This is the case in Fellner's reditions. Gould accomplishes it in one way, many others in their ways, and Fellner in his way. I believe Bach would be well-pleased to hear his intentions shine forth in Fellner's use of nuances only available on the piano, as well as in Gould's use of the instrument. To lock into one interpretation and close ones mind to others is to limit Bach's limitless potential. Thank you Tim Fellner for allowing Bach to shine forth yet once again.
Amazing.......2005-03-17
I sincerely hope we can look forward to more recordings from Till Fellner (especially one of WTC 2!). This recording is most definitely better than Schiff and Gould. As a pianist who has studied and played WTC and worships Bach's genius in counterpoint, I can tell you that I could not dream of better playing of these pieces. The pedaling is hardly noticable and helps a great deal to blend the voices together and create smoother fugues, which is how they are supposed to be. The sound quality is also very good. VERY highly recommended.

Customer Reviews:
MUST HAVE THIS IN YOUR COLLECTION OF HOROWITZ.......2007-07-13
If you have any Horowitz music in your collection. THEN YOU MUST GET THE COMPLETE RECORDINGS ON DEUTSCHE GRAMMOPHON. Quality of recording is superb.
Horowitz: A Digital Legacy.......2004-11-15
This set includes all of the recordings Vladimir Horowitz did for Deutsche Grammophon in the 1980s, including his historical concert in Moscow.
While the context of his return in Moscow is moving, the studio recordings are simply wonderful. The sound quality is impeccable. The Steinway piano sounds warm but yet crisp and sharp. Horowitz still has plenty of power, and if you don't have a good sound system, you will notice that your speakers will literally fail, due to the overwhelming wall of sound that Horowitz creates in the intense parts.
The tender moments are just as exciting, as they are enhanced by the very quiet and clear digital recording process. Liszt's Standchen and Mozart's Piano Concerto No 23 are only two of a myriad of highlights contained on this boxed set. Having these high quality digital recordings of this piano legend is a blessing that you can't afford to miss. And at this price, it's simply irresistible.
For those of you with a larger budget, don't forget the complete masterworks recordings (1962-73) of Vladimir Horowitz on Sony Classical.

Customer Reviews:
A MUST BUY!!!.......2001-03-03
If I had to choose one CD to spend a month locked in isolation with, this would be the one. Its varied but it flows well together. It's restive and soothing. The quality is beyond excellent!!! At the price, anyone is a fool not to own it, and give it lavishly as gifts. Its gorgeous, lush and fabulous! Everyone that hears it in our home, falls in love with it!
Great music, Excellent Value!.......2000-07-26
Rarely can one buy so much good music for so little. This compilation features almost 80 minutes of high quality music.
This truly is essential!.......1999-10-23
What a brilliant idea from one of our leading record companies! On this disc, they have assembled a programme of highlights from their vast collection of choral, vocal, orchestral, and solo instrumental music that is very satisfying. As with most CDs of this sort, it is a case of some tracks not appealing as much as others- I for instance am a lover of choral music so the gorgeous renditions of Stanford's "Magnificat" by St. Paul's Cathedral Choir or John Sheppard's divine motet "Libera Nos" by the Sixteen are obvious preferences of mine. However, whether you seek dyed-in-the-wool orchestral classics as Haydn's "Surprise" Symphony, less familiar works performed by period artists (such as "'E irei Madr'a Vigo" by ancient Spanish composer Martin Codax), or snippets of breathtaking instrumental solos (such as the rousing performance of Lefebure-Wely's "Sortie in E flat" which is sadly only an excerpt), this disc is bound to have something on it for you. And all of it is finely recorded.

Stunning - buy it while you can !.......2006-02-13
I don't have much to say. The subtle beauty of this recording (and others by Troeger) is self-evident. Five stars is not enough.
A delightful listen.......2003-03-24
This is the best recording of these works I have ever heard. The sound quality is outstanding, the playing is superb. I was initially reluctant to purchase this cd (not being familiar with Troeger and hesitant about the sound quality of a clavichord recording). I am fortunate that I took a chance and bought it as this is the best recording of the two and three part inventions and preludes. One reviewer reported that the tempo was too fast for his liking, although I disagree. I don't give five stars often, but this recording deserves it.
Solid.......2001-03-26
Troeger has delivered on all three clavichord recordings of Bach thus far. This particular volume contains "less sophisticated" works by Bach, more didactic pieces for his sons (and everyone else today) to learn fingering, composition, and sensitivity. In this last case, Troeger sounds like a master on this quiet instrument, and he gives us an intimate sense of the music (these pieces could very likely have been played by Bach's sons in this manner at home, on the clavichord). A delightful recording in many respects.
odd.......2001-02-12
Poor ole Bach. Sax choirs, Swingle singers. Synths and Bongos.. well at least the clavichord predates the light bulb.
Don't get me wrong this is not a wretched CD. I even play it ... sometimes. It may not be `whatever' but the artiste Maybe he had a hot date or the Celtic Gaol Squad was after him something but he just plays the music too fast for me. The playing sounds rushed [which one doesn't `pick up' on the samples]. I wouldn't want to see a comparison of this and, say, Glen Gould playing Bach on the piano in terms of tempi.
This is a nice `specimen' CD IF you already own a CD of these works.
I have already worn the plastic nubs off the jewel case.......2001-02-03
Like another recent Lyrichord recording (the Trio Sonatas, played on twin gut-stringed lautenwercke), this wonderful package is beautiful and revelatory. The individual lines of each work are clearly audible, and while they are simpler overall than some of Bach's more extended works, these pieces are very, very sweet, melodic and enjoyable. Sorry for all the vague words. The performance is full of energy, occasionally making this listener, anyway, want to jump up and down. I'll be checking out *all* the releases by Richard Troeger: this is the sort of music to listen to when Bach is all you can possibly stand. It will make you feel good about humanity, if you don't already.
Understand, this comes from a lover of Bach's music who has *no* formal training in music theory, history or performance - which could be a caveat or not, depending on your opinions.

The ultimate word on the WTK Bk. 1.......2007-04-16
Absolutely reference status - technically perfect, wonderful articulation and no exaggerations and mannerisms. Overwhelming playing, decently devoted to the work of JSB. Recommended for all teachers and learners.
I went without food one day to own these recordings..........2007-03-22
When I was younger and had less money. They were worth it.
Strong Interpretations.......2006-05-19
Keith Jarret's Bach playing is remarkably good. These are not overly interpreted performances, but rather understated, no frills Bach playing in the style of say, Richter.
You'll find very little to dislike in Jarret's playing. He plays with joy and yet a reverence for these revered and oft studied works. His technique is more than adequate, his phrasing is right on the money, and his tempos are very conservative.
Overall, I'd say that these performances hold up well with the best available recordings out there by classical pianists such as Schiff, Hewitt, Tureck and Richter, and therefore I highly recommend it.
Enjoy
Wonderful Bach, wonderful Jarrett.......2006-02-14
The Well-Tempered Clavier is here performed with a great sense of rythm and melody. I really love this recording because it displays very well the baroque style of the music. This set was recorded in 1988 and the sound quality is really good. Keith Jarrett's Bach and Handel recordings are marvellous!
The best I ever heard.......2006-01-31
I am a professional organist and am well versed in Baroque performance practices and stylistic specificities. As such, I have performed tons of Bach.
Jarrett's version is the best I have ever heard. I have even stolen some aspects of his interpretation and added them to my own. Some have commented that it was muddy, uninspired, contains errors. I disagree on all counts. I am most puzzled by the claim that there are errors. I play much of the WTC myself and I heard no errors.
I am most annoyed by people who over-interpret Bach as if each performer has a right to own him. Why doesn't this attitude exist for other composers as well? I don't understand. Jarrett sticks to what is on the page (with only the most minor contextually justifiable exceptions, unlike most other performers) and for this alone Jarrett deserves praise. This tells us Bach lovers that Jarrett trusts Bach's notes to do the work. I get the feeling from a lot of other performers that they do not trust Bach since they feel the need to do so much interpretataion.
I found Jarrett's version to be clear and penetrating. I enjoyed his tempos all told more than any other version I can think of. And there was just enough romantic emotionalism to remain within the scale of Baroque practice. Bach, throughout his music, displayed the capacity to render a wide variety of emotion. This fact I don't need to belabor to his fans. And Jarret does a fine job varying the styles of each prelude and fugue to reveal this often ignored side of Bach.
A technical note: Someone commented that Jarrett fails to bring out dominant lines. This shows a complete ignorance of Baroque performance practices and Bach's intentions. The dominant keyboard instruments back then were the organ and harpsichord and neither instrument has touch control. So the idea that Bach's lines should be touched is simply wrong. Also, Bach felt that the horizontal melodic component should be exactly equal to the vertical harmonic component in fugal work, which means bringing out voices was to Bach a philosophical anethema. This is one thing that makes Andras Schiff's version one of the worst, and Jarrett's one of the best.

Customer Reviews:
A captivating and important achievement.......2007-01-15
Robert Schumann was a central figure in the Romantic period of classical music. Fitting the period, the romantic idyll of Robert and Clara Schumann's trial-filled courtship and ultimate marriage against the wishes of Clara's father, Friedrich Wieck, has been endlessly written about.
But it is not until now that we have, for the first time, access to the complete piano compositions of Clara Schumann. I cannot imagine a more sensitive and nuanced performance of these works than that of Jozef De Beenhouwer, a Belgian pianist who has made a specialty of the music of both Robert and Clara Schumann. He received the Robert Schumann Prize from the City of Zwickau, Schumann's birthplace, and has completed an unfinished second concerto of Clara Schumann, not included in this set.
Clara Schumann was prepared by her father not only to be a virtuoso pianist. He also envisaged her as the first great female composer. He opposed her marriage to Robert in part because he reckoned that her probable role as a wife and mother - as well as Robert's ambitions as a comoposer - would bury her talent. Clara's first group of compositions were published when she was only 11 years of age. A surviving piano concerto, Op. 7, was performed to critical acclaim when Clara was 16.
Clara Schumann continued as a famous pianist and musical presence throughout her life (40 years after her husband's tragic death). However, although Robert recognized her compositional talent and encouraged her, the birth of eight children, and her role as a wife and pianist early curtailed her compositional activity (old Wieck was right in this respect). Her compositions have widely been regarded as worth little attention in comparison to those of her husband.
But this collection lets us make up our own minds about Clara's compositions. Most are from her early years, with a few from her later life. Except for her Concerto, many of the early works are in light genres, e.g. Polonaises (Op. 1), Romances, Impromptus, etc, but I found boldness, confidence, and originality in works from her earliest years. The Scherzi, Op. 10 and 14, are powerful and technically demanding. Some of the most remarkable pieces are preludes and fuges based on themes of J.S.Bach, and themes by Robert, written in the year, 1845, which gained favorable reviews for their skill and substance.
In summary, my wife and I both find this four-CD set both highly rewarding music beyond any novelty value associated the fame of the Schumann connection. In fact, I don't hesitate to make my own assessment that had Clara had the same opportunities as Robert, she may well have equalled him as a composer and fulfilled father Friedrich's dream.

Busoni's transcriptions of Bach organ works are among the glories of modern piano music, and all but doctrinaire followers of authentic period practice will enjoy them. Bach's music works well on the modern piano and Busoni's transcriptions add elements of color and fantasy that, however anachronistic, are fascinating to hear. Demidenko is a Russian-trained virtuoso with a monster technique who makes child's play of these often difficult pieces. He tears into the opening Fantasie (BWV 906) with abandon, produces an affecting Adagio (BWV 968) and a firmly articulated Fugue (BWV 906), which was seamlessly completed by Busoni. The big Prelude and Fugue (BWV 532) is thrilling, and the six Choral Preludes are lovingly done. The great violin Chaconne gets a big performance, too, fitting for a piece that Busoni metamorphosed into a cornerstone of Romantic piano literature. --Dan Davis
Customer Reviews:
Excellent Busoni.......2007-01-15
I agree with the previous reviewer about the chaconne, some might find it too slow. Especially if you are used to Kissin's performance. I personally think Demidenko's more unified treatment of the variatons is refreshing. He creates contrast through deep colorful poetry, and sheer power as opposed to using many parametric changes. In my opinion this interpretation is the perfect balance of romantic power and depth with Baroque form and character. On top of the performance alone, the Fazioli piano chosen has absolutely stunning soud quality and is perfect for Busoni.
Wonderful Playing.......2002-05-22
The real gems of this disk are the Chorale Prelude transcriptions. Demidenko plays these pieces beautifully, especially Durch Adams fall ist ganz verdebt and Jesus Christus Unser Heiland. One can really appreciate the beautiful sound of the Fazioli piano in these pieces in particular. My one reservation about the chorale preludes is 'Watchet Auf'. The only recording I know of that does this justice is Angela Hewitt's recording of Bach Arrangements(Kempff also doesn't do a bad job of this). The playing doesn't quite convey the spirit of this piece.
Demidenko also does a particularly good job of the Fantasia and the Chacconne, although some might find the Chaconne a little too slow for their liking. However don't get the wrong impression, Demidenko can break into great moments of power and speed. This is Demidenko's late romantic playing at its best.
He also gives a good account of the Prelude and Fugue BWV 532, although its not up to Gilels account of the same piece. Gilels manages to create a beutiful organ like sonority from the piano, and gets the tempo just right in each part. However Demidenko's faster fugue makes for a barnstorming interpretation.
I recommend this disc highly, as I said especially for the exceptional playing of the chorale preludes, and also the Fantasia and Chaconne. My one reservation regarding this disc is the sound. The tone could be a little fuller (perhaps the piano needed to be closer to the mike?) which is unfortunate because Demidenko is using a beutiful Fazioli piano. Don't let put you off though, because the recording quality is still superb.
