Puertas de Madrid

Editorial Reviews
Acoustic Guitar Magazine
"Angarola’s playing reveals a deep understanding... Torroba’s Sonatina and Turina’s Sonata are beautifully played..."

North County Times
"Although the composer has retained the folk flavor, the piece is unusually subtle, especially as Angarola plays it."

5 out of 5 stars One of the best guitar CDs I've heard.......2005-05-28

I love this lady's work. I just got this but getting quickly addicted; her Torroba is phenomenal - especially the 2nd mvt. will melt your heart. I listen to this and it puts me in another world, the old country of Spain, colorful, passionate. I'm not a guitar player but it seems like this lady really is one of the best I've heard. Strong and accurate playing without sacrificing feeling. Great!

    5 out of 5 stars Outstanding Artistry.......2004-09-07

Anisa Angarola performs these standards of the classical guitar repertoire with a warm, full tone and an outstanding technical ability. Her perfectly balanced interpretations place Puertas de Madrid among the best recordings of this repertoire.
A must have for classical guitar aficionados and an excellent choice for those new to the genre.
    Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars The Castle of Turegano.......2001-01-29

I so enjoyed listening to the song of Castle of Turegano as I am a desendant of the Turegano that came from Spain. I would love to find more information on them. But the song and now I have the picture of the Castle is wonderful. Keep up the good work.

4 out of 5 stars classical guitar enthusiasts will want these CDs........1999-03-09

Paulino Garcia Blanco, one of the four guitarists who interpretes Torroba on these CDs, has also edited and fingered these same works in two volumes for guitar. As a classical guitarist, I have been reading this music for several months and was excited to find the parallel CDs. These are beautiful, well played pieces, and you are unlikely to even find most of these pieces anywhere else. Blanco and his colleagues are obviously interested in presenting Torroba to a larger public with these CDs, and they are well worth owning by any classical guitar enthusiast. As a guitarist, I would have liked a chronology of these pieces included in the notes since it is also lacking in the written volumes, but this in no way detracts from the artistic value of these recordings. It is also curious to note differences in the notation played in the piece Siguenza, for example, on this CD as opposed to a recording by Andres Segovia. It makes you wonder what artistic license has been taken in the interpretation of one or the other.
