This is simply one of the best renditions of Gershwin yet recorded. Exciting, and technically flawless, MTT has again proven his skill and mastery at conducting. Finally, the San Francisco Symphony has joined the ranks of the worlds other great orchestras. If you like Gershwin, get this recroding before any other!

Gershwin--the way it should be done.......2004-06-03
Spider Saloff is an outstanding cabaret--jazz singer who was the Gershwin's family's official singer during his centennial celebration. On this cd, you can hear why. The only thing better would be to see her perform live as I was fortunate enough to do. Her rendition of the strangely underperformed "Vodka" is truly unforgettable and worth the price of the cd alone.

This is definitely a must have for all Gershwin fans! Ms. Saloff has an incredible silky voice that will capture the imagination of fans of all genres.

This CD is terrific. I have bought it more or less by chance, as I have never heard of this lady before and I just wanted to obtain a second version of the lovely "Nashville Nightingale". So it came as a total surprise when I got the CD and it turned out to be one of the best (if not the best) Gershwin CD that I own. Her voice is very beautiful and so is the accompinent. Although "Vodka" is the only song that was completely new to me (and it alone would have been enough to recommend the disc) it is a great choice of standards and rarely heard songs. I like her "Ask me again" and "Lonely Boy" better than the versions by Michael Feinstein. Among the standards these are probably my favourite versions of "Embraceable you" and "Isn't it a Pity" (comparable with Feinstein-Clooney). But my favourite take is "Nashville Nightingale".I really would like to know why this exquisite song doesn't get recorded much oftener. All in all, this CD is an absolute must-buy.
