Bond is a string quartet made up of four good-looking women, two from Australia, one from Wales, one from Great Britain. Their training is in purely classical music, which this CD certainly is not. Their previous CD was banned from the UK classical charts, presumably because of the overly insistent use of beats and other intrusions, and this CD too contains African, electro, Latin and hip-hop beats. Bond will be the first to acknowledge that they're heavily influenced by the club scene and pop culture from London to Bangkok. Here they are joined by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and the sound is enormous: there's level upon level of overdubbing. Some of the tracks have, as their basis, classical works: Pachelbel's Canon, snippets of Swan Lake, the Nutcracker, Carmen's Habanera, Brahms' Hungarian Dance no. 5, Barber's Adagio for Stings. But the sound we get is lush, beat-heavy, club-ish, full of excitement and basic rhythms, and the "classical" connection--aside from the melodies from the above-mentioned pieces--must be taken on faith. The women's solo playing, if there is any, is not audible. The over-riding feel is disco; this is for dancing and for creating a mood of excitement. --Robert Levine

5 out of 5 stars just incredible.......2007-07-09

This group of four ladies puts on such a performance, you'll feel exhausted! You'll recognize the tunes but I guarante you have never heard them played like this before. The electrified violins and string instruments coupled with their frenetic pace is just amazing. For a visual treat see them perform live on their dvd or combo cd/dvd. But one of their cd's and you'll be back for more.

4 out of 5 stars Working Music.......2007-02-11

I have to happily agree with another reviewer who noted that she gets more done when she listens to Bond. I feel the exact same way. Their music is perfect for me during a long drive or when I'm busy at work.

I am not a classical music aficinado, but I've found that I really enjoy listening to Bond. My favourite would be their rendition of "Kashmir" on the Shine CD, I believe.

5 out of 5 stars Classical made fun!.......2007-01-17

This is the first Bond album I've purchased and I love it!! I've always loved strings, but could only listen to so much classical music before becoming really bored with it (especially in the car - makes me sleepy.) This album brings classical instruments to life! Want your kids to appreciate classical? My 5- and 4-year-old daughters can't get enough of this music! They love to point out all the instruments they hear. I get comments about them humming "Swan Lake" while they play. My personal favorite is "Lullaby," based on Pachelbel's Canon in D. The vocals added to this up-tempo rendition give me goosebumps. Based on this album, I am a huge fan of classical cross-over. Highly recommend it!

4 out of 5 stars Beautiful music.......2007-01-05

They are a classic quartet which the Masters would be proud to have play their music.

5 out of 5 stars Declassifing Bond.......2006-06-11

Four years after Bond hit it big in the Mainstream music world, the string quartet released CLASSIFIED. The album was a display of not only Bond members' talents, but their abilities to expand the genre of their music. The basis of Classical music remained, but Bond's sound became even more Pop/Dance oriented. For the track "Fly Robin Fly", the group even performed in more of a disco style. To perserve the elements of Classical art, more brass, horns, and percussion were added to the arrangements of Bond's pieces. Props go out to the quartet's interpretation of the Hungarian Rapsodies that they entitled "Hungarian", and to their version of a movement from Carmen they entitled "Senorita". This album shows how a group's sound can change over time to a better style than the one they had already mastered. CLASSIFIED is part of Bond's best work and a must have for any music fan.

As one of Canada's top selling independent rap artists, the Halifax native is reinforcing his position with his best release to date. "Boy-Cott-In The Industry" includes some of Classified's best production as well as guest appearances by Choclair and M.I.C. Records recording artist, Royce da 5'9. The album includes live guitar, bass and violin instrumentals, which enhance the sound and quality of the project.

5 out of 5 stars Wow, amazing.......2006-06-07

I can almost never give out 5 stars to CD's. I think I gave one to Atmosphere's new drop. All I know is I never heard of him, or any Canadian rapper. I downloaded the CD, and within a week bought 2 CD's from this guy. Some of the best, most origional rapping I have heard. Great production. Classified has amazing rhymes, delivery, and production, it makes an amazing CD. One of very few I highly recommend. You will not go wrong with this Can-uck. I have only listened to Trial and Error and Boy-Cott, but I would say buy Boy-cott and see what's up.

u won't regret it

5 out of 5 stars Classified Keeps Getting Better.......2005-08-27

This is by far my favorite Classified Cd, and I thought nothing could have beaten 'trial & error' but this CD did. Almost all the tracks were solid '10's. 5th element and both versions of Unexplainable Hunger were probably 11s. Class' producing skills are unmatched in Canada and this album gave his best production, with live guitars, fiddles, keyboards and bag pipes this CD as a very authentic sound. Many critics say that Classified is the voice of Canada's underground hip hop scene, and with his work here that title is very fitting.

Simply put this Cd is worth every dime you spend on it. It is too good to just copy from a friend or bootleg it in anyway. Classfied needs teh money and he deserves the money with his efforst on 'Boy-Cott-In The industry'

5 out of 5 stars Inspirational..........2005-08-10

When it comes down to it, Classified is just a blue collard worker who's been trying to make it big in the music business for over 10 years. He produces his own beats and is a good lyricist, you have to respect him for doing what he's done. His beats are catchy and he even admits that they sound commercial in one of the songs but they'll have your head bumping in a fresh way. He's not rapping about guns or money or ho's but he does rap about weed...lol. Seriously, this man has a lot of talent, just search for his official site on google and you can watch his videos of his singles. I hope that'll help you decide but if you're reading this and don't have this album, just buy it! You won't regret it, I've been listening to it for a week straight and when I listen to other music I keep coming back to it. It's just plain good hip hop. Peace...

When I first bought this Cd was simply amazed, my mouth just stayed open for like 15 minutes I could not believe how incredible the CD was. I didn't even know he was a Canadian until I heard him talking about his Canadian roots. His production on this Cd is his best yet (though Boy-Cott-In The Industry is better, but at the time it was his best). I showed this Cd to a bunch of my friends who absoloutley hate rap music and they instantly fell in love with it. I convinced an oldies lover, an emo kid and an acoustic lover to buy this Cd. It is not just a Cd for hip hop lovers, but music that all people seem to love.

Album Description

Classified is one of the hardest working artists on the Canadian urban scene, producing a steady stream of independent releases since the early 90s. Originally released in 2001, Union Dues is the last of these efforts before his 2003 breakout album Trial & Error. Completely self-recorded and produced, Union Dues is the product of 10 hard years of work in the underground.

3 out of 5 stars Classified - Hitch Hikin Music .......2006-12-31

Classified's (A.K.A. Luke Boyd) eleventh album is "Hitch Hikin Music" (2006) a seventeen track release which features guest appearances from Maestro Fresh-Wes, Jordan Croucher, Jay-Bizzy, Chad Hatcher, Tash (Of Tha Liks), J-Bru, Mic Boyd, White Mic & Preacher K. Classified is a Canadian MC/Producer who comes from Enfield, Nova Scotia. It's hard to make it as a Canadian artist, Classified continues to come back each year with more music - producing his own albums, touring and opening for artist's like Busta Rhymes, Ludacris and Black Moon while working with Royce Da 5'9. I am a bigger fan of Classified the producer then Classified the MC, his beats are usually distinct and memorable. Classified has two singles for this album - one being "Find Out", backed by some upbeat & fast paced production - Classified talks about his journey through Hip Hop and his reflections on it's state. On the "Feeling Fine" (Remix) Classified team's up with singer Jordan Croucher and J-Bizzy, - the highlight of this cut being Jordan Croucher's uplifting singing. On "Hard to Be Hip Hop" Classified teams up one of the pioneers of Canadian Hip Hop Maestro Fresh Wes, and the two kick rhymes on Hip Hop, fickle fans, fake MC's, backed by scratching and a stellar beat. Classified shines on the substantial "All About You", while Chad Hatcher's soulful singing works well. Lyrically this is one of my favourite track's on this release as Classified's/Chad Hatcher's rhymes/singing on life are positive, thought provoking and meaningful. Classified's production on "Fall From Paradise" is outstanding - Classified talks about his love for Hip Hop, and what it's like to be a Canadian MC. Backed by some smooth production Class rhymes about being loyal to his wife, no matter how much temptation comes his way on "See The Truth". Overall "Hitch Hikin Music" is a strong release which fan's of Canadian Hip Hop should definetly check out. Respect to Classified for keeping his music grounded and real.

4 out of 5 stars Another Excellent Release.......2006-10-06

I was excited to see this album come out so quickly after the excellent Boy-Cott in the industry. Ive been a fan of classified since union dues and this album is a strong continuation of his evolution as an artist. Class once again produces all the tracks on the album and the quality is top notch, on par with any of the big names in the industry today. Lyricaly class comes with his usual no nonsense style, rapping with authority on every track. Even though the featured artists on this album arent of the same profile as on Boy-Cott the colaboration tracks are all solid particularly Hard to be Hip Hop with legendary Canadian mc Maestro. Classified is truly an underappreciated artist, any fan of his previous work, or qulity hip hop music in general wont be dissapointed with this album.

2 out of 5 stars I was dissapointed ..........2000-03-08

I must admit, I bought this CD because of everyone's reviews. When I finally got it, I was a bit dissapointed. Almost all the songs have the same beat. Dahil Sa Yo...they dragged it out a bit too much. Voice V however, is a great filipina group...much better to listen to. Makes you proud to be a filipina!

4 out of 5 stars Impressive!.......1999-10-27

Good vocals. Good songs. A CD that I'm proud to have and would not hesitate to recommend to my friends (Filipino or otherwise). More power to Pinay! Can't wait for your next one!

5 out of 5 stars PiNaY rEpPinG dA aZn fLaVoR.......1999-10-25

I lub the lyrics of their songs. They can really reflect a teenagers life. (At sum point) I lub the beat. A must have!

5 out of 5 stars i'm bored-but i might as well be productive.......1999-09-28

pinay's debut album was very impressive for a you young group of filipina ladies (pinays if you will). the vocals are very strong-my favorite example, pinay's rendition of dahil sa iyo ("because of you"- a traditional tagalog), makes this song sound like an actual love song as opposed to hearing it sung by drunken uncles on the ol' karioke. slow cuts and dance tracks-what more do you need...but what is really impressive is that these ladies actually have brains. irma finished law school this past june-congrats (maybe we can take you somewhere other than Red Robins). what's up for the sequel?

5 out of 5 stars of the best!.......1999-09-21

Really talented. Pretty voices. Worth your money, 15 good songs! R&B. I'm glad they put a lil Filipino flavor with that song, "Dahil Sa Iyo". Go ahead and get this CD!

I went down to Corpus to see LFO pre Summer Girls and M:G was a few acts before LFO and I remember falling in love with the song "Sweet Honesty" before the show hearing it on the radio. Then her performance totally captivated me. Plus her dancers Marcos and Humberto were sooooo nice =)
Then a few months later she did some shows in Fort Worth and Dallas and we got to meet her! She was sending my friend and me shout outs on the radio because we had been emailing her and telling her how much we loved her music. =)
I really think she does have what it takes to make in the industry but I hear she is working on her career in dentistry right now. I hope she comes out with another album soon! It's been 3 years now since we heard any new stuff! Plus Glenn is the best producer on the face of the planet! Anyway this is a MUST BUY. I gave my AUTHORGRAPHED copy to former New Kid Jordan Knight so now I got to get another. =(
I hope Jordan is enjoying Make A Little Noise because he should!

5 out of 5 stars great album!!!.......2002-08-29

I first heard Make A Little Noise about 3 years ago, back in 1999. I was amazed by her talent and her amazing voice. This is one of the best albums I have heard, and still, nothing has topped it in my book. It boggles my mind that she is not as well known as I feel she should be. If you're thinking about buying this album, stop thinking, and do it. I am about to buy my third copy of this album because my friends keep "borrowing" it, and just keep it. I don't mind at all, because M:G is spectacular!!!

5 out of 5 stars This cd makes A LOT OF EXCELLENT NOISE.......2002-03-27

This is easily the best CD I own and have ever owned. Her lyrics are good, her beats are good, the WHOLE CD IS 5 STARS. It's very very hard to see how shes not bigger then she is.

5 out of 5 stars BEST DANCE ALBUM EVER!.......1999-11-20

I love this album! Ever since I purchased it, I've listened to it over and over. I've got to say that M:G is an artist with TRUE talent. I love all her songs. And I look forward to her next album. I recently ordered her new single "Aphrodisiac" and all the mixes are off the hook! I highly recommend you check it out!

5 out of 5 stars Last But Not Least.......2007-03-07

I saw James Booker perform in a little hole in the wall bar in 1983 New Orleans. He had this album propped up on the piano while he played to a very small crowd, yet he played as if he were playing to thousands of people. James Booker enjoyed playing music, and he did it as well as anyone. This would be the last album he would record, and it's one of his best...We spoke while he was on break, and he tried to convince me to buy a copy, but I had just spent my last few bucks buying drinks. He said "take it anyway, and if you like it pay me the next time you see me". Well I went home, put it on, and needless to say, it was all good; from the first cut to the last. James Booker died three weeks later, and I never had the opportunity to go back and pay him, or to thank him for his kindness. I'll be forever indebted to him, not only for the album, but for the memory of that time, and for the story that ultimately came with it. Give James Booker a listen and you'll be rewarded, I promise....

5 out of 5 stars King of the Keyboard.......2001-03-10

Dr. John and Harry Connick Jr. both acknowledge Booker as the greatest of New Orleans piano players. So who are we to argue? The beauty of music in New Orleans has always been the blurring of musical categories: blues, jazz (both traditional and modern), r&b, gospel, and Caribbean-infected funk were and are played in the Crescent City by the same great artists who also happen to be great entertainers. It's a gumbo town. And no one embodied this gumbo spirit better and with more virtuosity than James Booker. He could play it all, including classical, separately, at the same time, or all at the same time! I think this is Booker's best studio recording, and it is true that the version of "King of the Road" on this record is by itself worth the price -- trascendent.

4 out of 5 stars better than its reputation.......1999-06-10

this album has often been described by critics as haphazard and in many ways unfinished. that may or may not be the case, but check it out for yourself, there are plenty of golden gems here. i bet you a dollar or two that roger miller's "king of the road" will never be the same ever again to anyone who hears booker's far out version...
