Richard Wilson: Persuasions; Lord Chesterfield to his Son; Fixations; Sonata for Viola & Piano
Editorial Reviews The three instrumental works which follow Persuasions also describe a composer with interesting, original ideas who is neither tied to any system nor afraid to make use of past forms. Fixations has three sections, each inspired by a structure visual of musical; the piece has an impressionistic feeling. This is a very nice disc on all counts. James H. North

Here's an unpretentious record filled with lovely music. Wilson writes in an invigorating style which is reminiscent of, but less intellectually stern than John Harbison. Persuasions sparkles with a warm wit; the soprano sings three settings of imaginative seventeenth-century love poems by Thomas Carew, to a variety of instrumental backgrounds. Persuasions is one of those pieces which simply works, of which the whole is more than the sum of the parts. Amy Burton has a pleasant light soprano and sings charmingly.
