What happened to wakefield?????.......2006-04-14

I wanted to rate this cd 2 and half stars, but there is no option for it. Ill admitt i fell for Wakefield's first album even though it sounded like every other pop-punk band in existence at the time. What did me in was seeing them open for the All-American Rejects, for me there is no substitute for a great live show. After heavy rotation in my cd collection i couldnt wait to see what wakefield had in store for an encore, i was very disappointed. there are only brief hints of the Wakefield of old, this cd is like listening to a whole new band. Wakefield lost all of its pep, hooks, and it seems their heart when making "Which Side are you On." It seems to me that the song "Sell Out" off the last album was not just a fun and catchy song, but a prelude to what would soon become Wakefield's way of life. If you are a fan of Wakefield, buy this disc at your own risk, I did and am very disappointed.

First of all dont expect anything extraordinary from this CD. This is not a masterpiece but these guys really have their own touch!
If you like bands like SR-71, Lit, Yellowcard, New Found Glory, The All-American Rejects and this type of music you will like this cd either. Mix these pop-alternative-punk-rock bands in one and you'll get Wakefield but with bit of their own style. Wakefield use much variety on this cd so you can even hear some 'Lostprophets style' vocals here as well as some emo elements.

The whole cd is quite melodic and easy-listening and it's obviously worth buying it if you're in this kind of music.

It's hard to believe who they give recording contracts to these days!!! This is the typical garbage that is played by most of the alternative-type bands out there....It's hard to tell one from the other as most groups of this type have no unique style. Hopefully, the kids who listen to this trash will eventually grow-up to appreciate what real music is.

I'm On Wakefield's Side.......2005-09-17

I have to be honest. I'm a little disappointed... in the fact that it took me so long to hear these guys. Of all the big bands out there, Wakefield runs the show in my MP3 player these days. The variety in the album is enticing because the band really expresses their love for the music, showcasing their talent with different styles in between the rock. I'm giving the album a 5-star rating because there isn't a song I don't like and I can't keep it off the playlist. The band took a risk in playing with new sounds on this album, and that risk paid off. Now it's your turn to reap the benefits and enjoy some good music.

Album Details

The Almanac Singers were a Group of Folk Musicians who Achieved Popularity in the Radical Left/Anti-fascist Circles of Early 1940s America, Using the Music of the People and the Soil in a Classic Leftist Way to Promote their Intellectual Concerns. Millard Lampell, Lee Hays, Pete Seeger, and Americana Godfather Woody Guthrie Began Playing Together Informally at the Communal Almanac House after Seeger and Hays Had Been Playing Left-wing Political Functions for a Time. Mainstream National Success Began after the American Youth Congress Meeting in Washington D.c. In February of 1941. Others who Sang with the Group at Various Times Included Folk/Leftist Legends Like Sis Cunningham, Peter Hawes, Butch Hawes, Bess Lomax , Cisco Houston, and Arthur Stern.

Great Gospel!!!!.......2006-03-12

This CD is terrific. What a great blend of gospel and just a touch of jazz on some of the cuts. I particularly like one of the songs Carla Harris wrote herself "Standing on Holy Ground" - especially when you know the story behind the song. She has a beautiful voice and knows how to use it. We are buying 600 to give as a gift to each guest at our upcoming prayer breakfast. We will all be blessed by her wonderful spirit and outstanding vocal talent.

Fresh, Yet In the Tradition.......2005-12-05

With Harris, in her recording "Joy Is Waiting", all I can say is remarkable.

Remarkable is the fresh treatment of the gospel genre, with songwriting that makes new works feel like classics. The arrangements and orchestrations are adventurous yet well-steeped in tradition, the production modern yet astute with the sense of musical roots.

Ms. Harris makes the critical first choice for her project in her association with Ron Melrose, who along with his prodigious touch on piano, organ, synthesizers, contributes inspired efforts as arranger and producer. Drummer Gene Lewin propels the session masterfully. The Broadway Inspirational Voices contribute a texture of an ensemble three times its size.

And Carla is blessed with the sensibility of singing with pure passion, yet at the same time allowing the inherent power of the music to speak. The result is an offering of spiritual repertoire, with a real bow toward Edwin Hawkins and Andrea Crouch, crossing denominations, cultures, and musical genres. This is a most satisfying set.

True To Life!.......2005-05-09

I was lucky enough to hear Carla Harris sing live, at Lincoln Center in New York City, only a few months ago -- fabulous! As it turns out, she sang two songs on this album, and they sound just as great here as from the stage. This CD is uplifting, upbeat and truly enjoyable; well worth the price!

Glory! Glory! Glory!.......2005-05-05

I was told about Ms. Harris' new CD by a friend and bought it out of curiosity, more than any other reason. What a discovery! Her luminous voice takes hold of you and won't let go. Her bold rendition of "Bridge over Troubled Water" and "What A Friend" simply mesmerize and take you to another place. This is THE CD of the summer for anybody who loves good, down-home gospel music.

Imagine, if you will a down day, and you need a pick me up. Put this cd on. I doubt that your spirit will fail to rise upon listening to the first song. No doubt you will be "standing on Holy Ground". Ms. Harris' interpretations of well known songs reflect her her strong belief in God and positive view of life.

These songs will get in your head, and you will be humming them long after the cd is off. They will take to a wonderful place, and leave you there for a good time. As the title says "Joy is Waiting", stop making Joy wait, buy the cd and enjoy.

Rzewski's masterpiece in a stunning new interpretation.......2003-08-02

"De Profundis," for speaking pianist, is a tour-de-force -- 45 minutes of portions of Oscar Wilde's text written from prison, coupled with an intricate and often harrowing piano part. Originally written for the superb Anthony de Mare, Rzewski's complex score requires a special type of performer to succeed, and while there are a number of excellent accounts available (including one by the composer himself), now we have this new one from the seemingly fearless Lisa Moore.

What distinguishes this piece is its gamut of emotions, and corresponding demands on the performer. A pianist attempting it must *act* the part, while simultaneously traversing the keyboard, occasionally slapping herself, hitting the wood of the piano, laughing, whispering, and at one point even deploying a car horn. I have heard Moore perform this piece live several times, and am happy to report that this recording accurately captures her considerable stamina and insight. Aside from her technical prowess, Moore captures a wide and uncanny range of moods -- rage, sadness, silliness, introspection -- that make up Wilde's moving and reflective memoir.

In the equally intriguing "North American Ballads," Moore hurls herself into a gripping performance of "Winnsboro Cotton Mill Blues," recreating the sounds of the mechanical processor, churning and chugging, over and over. In its climactic passages, the piece almost seems to overwhelm itself, with the machinery seemingly spinning out of control. The almost inhuman demands on the pianist don't seem to faze Moore one bit.

Rzewski is one of the most original compositional voices around, and in this recording, he has found an equally original performer to give life to some of his most startling music. The recording quality is excellent, miked a bit close so the listener can catch every nuance of Moore's carefully rehearsed gestures. Just amazing.

worthless united is an amazing band
if you like op ivy, crimpshrine, antiflag, the river city rebels, rancid, or any sort of punk rock, you will definitely appreciate this one
