Editorial Reviews
Album Description
"My very high A flat and other favorite notes" is a celebration of the notes that become music and enable us to communicate through words and sound. The very high A flat ("in altissimo") is part of the cadenza at the end of Victor Herbert’s "Art is Calling For Me".

In their debut album Karen Lundry, soprano, and Stephen Phebus, piano, perform a selection of familiar melodies including "Let's Do It" by Cole Porter, "One Kiss" by Sigmund Romberg, "Love is Where You Find It" by Nacio Herb Brown, and "I Can't Do the Sum" by Victor Herbert, along with art songs in French ("Green" and "Apparition" by Claude Debussy), English ("Loveliest of Trees" and "A Piper" by John Duke), and German ("Allerseelen" and "Ich Schwebe" by Richard Strauss); arias in English (the Willow Song from "The Ballad of Baby Doe" by Douglas Moore) and Italian ("Caro Nome" from Rigoletto by Verdi and "Tornami a Vagheggiar" from Handel's Alcina); and the sacred piece "My Heart Every Faithful" by J.S. Bach.

Karen Lundry has been featured soloist in New York City at Radio City Music Hall and internationally with the International Chamber Orchestra of NY in Greece, Portugal, Italy, and Morocco, and with the Opera Theater of NY in the Far East. Byron Belt of Newhouse Newpapers called her a "pure-voiced soprano".

Stephen Phebus is a conductor, coach, and accompanist based in New York City. Over the last thirty years he has conducted many operas and musicals and coached and accompanied singers in concert, theater, opera, and cabaret across the U.S., in Italy, and in Canada.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars My very high A Flat.......2006-06-08

I have enjoyed this CD very much and am thrilled to have just acquired her next CD called Airs, Arias and Allelia! which is even better than her last one... Ms Lundry does the Queen of the Night's aria to perfection and the singing of Juliette's Walz was equally outstanding. My special favorite is Mozart's Alleluia. This album is a wonderful mix of very challenging arias that she does extremely well.

5 out of 5 stars superb voice, eclectic mix.......2003-12-25

'My Very High A flat' is a refreshing mix of opera, operetta,
pop classics (such as Cole Porter's 'Let's do it') and more. Lundry's voice has astonishing range and power, set off to perfection by pianist Stephen Phebus. An altogether vibrant vocal experience.

5 out of 5 stars Karen Lundry's A flat will knock your socks off!.......2003-11-27

Lundry sings with a joyful, lilting voice that is positively captivating. Her selections transcend time and musical style, ranging from Verdi to Victor Herbert and Richard Strauss to Cole Porter. The high energy of her coloratura sound is thrilling. This CD provides enchantment for all musical tastes.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent~Fabulous~Super~Wonderful...O.K. so get it now!!.......2003-11-26

Ms. Lundry has such a beautiful voice and the range is unbelievable. We have added this to our CD collection and cannot wait for her follow up so we can add that one too. From our perspective, you simply cannot go wrong with this musical masterpiece. Ms. Lundry is bound to explode on the music scene and I'm fortuante enough to have her CD. Though I have absolutely no musical talent myself, I truly enjoy good music. This is so refreshing in a time we currently exist where so much of the music is awful or "bubblegum" style. Ms. Lundry is unique...and she can be as she can hit a wide range of notes. Not many musicians these days seem to be able to do that. LOVE THE CD!!! LOOKING FOR THE NEXT!!!

5 out of 5 stars Album a great find.......2003-11-18

This album is a great find. I think it is wonderful that Amazon is a source for such gems that are not widely distributed. It has a nice selection of songs. The Sigmund Romberg andVictor Herbert songs are my favorites, particularly Herbert's "Art is Calling for Me", not just for the final high A flat, but for the quite lovely and upbeat "I long to be a prima donna, donna, donna" part. It is clear that the artist enjoys singing this song. Karen Lundry is to be complemented on her selection of songs, ones which highlight her voice. I love her singing and I highly recommend this album.
