In the world of Indian classical instrumental music, Ustad Vilyat Khan occupies a pre-eminent place. There are a few to equal him in his mastery over the most widely known Indian instrument, the sitar. Born ina family of outstanding musicians, Vilyat Khan inherited the art of sitar playing from his renowned father, the late Ustad Inayat Khan. His greatest contribution to classical Indian Music is his invention of the "Gayaki Ang". It can be described as a dulcet, lyrical style adapting vocal music to the instrumental form. It is highly ornamented and genteel, rather than flashy. Vilyat Khan is known internationally as one of the greatest living exponents of the sitar, enthralling audiences both in India and the rest of the world by the overpowering beauty of his performances.

I must say that this music is so beautiful, so enthralling, that it seems almost dangerous to me. Powerfully spiritual, it puts one in a state of quasi-meditative contentment that makes one feel no real need to do anything else.... This is a cd I listen to only when I have time to let it absorb me completely with its blissful beauty far from the physical world & into the nonphysical before recovering & getting back to the grind. This cd does that more than other sitar music; I'm not sure hows. Very highly recommended for anyone who can handle glimpses of God.
