About the Artist
Acclaimed internationally for the poetry and technical brilliance of her playing, Angelin Chang has given concerts in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, highlighted by performances at St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, Zelazowa Wola in Warsaw, China’s Beijing Concert Hall, the South African Broadcasting Corporation and Colombia’s Sala Luis Ángel Arango in Bogotá, as well as such American venues as Severance Hall in Cleveland, the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. She has had the further distinction of performing for the United Nations Women’s Organization and before the royal family of Nepal. The first American to take first prize in both piano and chamber music during the same year from the Paris Conservatoire, Dr. Chang was also the first artist-in-residence at the Kennedy Center and helped develop and launch its Arts for Everyone initiative. She earned her doctor of musical arts degree from the Peabody Institute-Johns Hopkins University, her master of music and distinguished-performer certificate from Indiana University, her baccalaureate degrees in both French and music from Ball State University and highest honors upon graduation from the Interlochen Arts Academy. Her piano teachers have included Michel Béroff, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Yvonne Loriod-Messiaen, Robert McDonald, Menahem Pressler, György Sebök, Pia Sebastiani and Dorothy Taubman. Formerly on the piano faculty at Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey, Dr. Chang is director of keyboard programs, coordinator for chamber music and professor of piano at Cleveland State University. An active chamber musician, she has been recording and concertizing internationally with violist Joseph de Pasquale since 1990 and performs regularly with the De Pasquale String Quartet and members of the Philadelphia Orchestra and Cleveland Orchestra.

Album Description
One of the most influential violists of our time, Joseph de Pasquale has had a profound impact on the repertoire and perception of the instrument. The dedicatee of the 25th International Viola Congress, which honored his revolutionary contributions to the field of viola performance, he holds a 50-year combined record as principal violist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra. His signature rendition of Berlioz’s Harold in Italy has become a reference work for students of the piece. And heading a distinguished musical family, he is violist of the De Pasquale String Quartet, joining with family members William and Robert, violinists, and Gloria, cellist – all members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Mr. De Pasquale’s years with the Boston Symphony spanned the tenures of conductors Koussevitsky, by whom he was appointed principal violist, Munch and Leinsdorf; during that time he premiered the Piston Viola Concerto, which had been written for! him, and those of Walton and Milhaud. As principal violist of the Philadelphia Orchestra under Ormandy, Muti and Sawallisch, he performed virtually every major viola concerto, premiering Martinu’s Rhapsody Concerto, Bruch’s Romanze, Shulman’s Theme and Variations, and Hummel’s Potpourri. He has performed and recorded with such celebrated artists as violinist Jascha Heifetz and cellist Gregor Piatigorsky. Since 1990, he has been performing and recording exclusively with pianist Angelin Chang. A graduate of the Curtis Institute, where he studied with Louis Bally, Max Aronoff and William Primrose, he has served on the faculties of Indiana University and New England Conservatory and currently teaches at Curtis. His students hold positions in major orchestras worldwide.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Cool Techno-Tribal Groove.......2005-03-01

Wow ! This is a real departure from Zingaia's earlier releases and I love where they take me on this new musical adventure. Super cool techno-tribal beats, world rythyms and sampled voices from Africa and the Near and Far East blend beautifully. This release really transports me into a whole other world. While I really love the vocals from Abbi Spinner and Katlyn Breene from the previous releases, this new drum heavy trance inducing excursion from Zingaia is a complete a joy and an amazing listening experience.

1 out of 5 stars Dissapointing!.......2005-02-16

I might like this album better if I didn't already have a fairly large collection of albums by Putamayo World Music which are much better than this! The reason I mention that is that this album reminds of the things that company releases, just not nearly as good.

I have both of their other releases which are superb! They are all about Sacred Sex and praise the Lady and the Lord. This album is bland and boring compared to the other two. The only good thing I can really find to say about it is that it might be enjoyable to drum along with it.

However, I have several other albums I like better which are also good for drumming along with. If thier next album isn't any better I will have to revise my opinion of Zingaia!

5 out of 5 stars Soles on Earth is Out of this World!!!.......2004-10-27

This latest release by Zingaia (their third) is vastly different than their previous releases, both of which I absolutely love. Where their first release "Beneath the Veil" is a trance journey into the seductive heart of the Goddess, and their second release "Dancers of Twilight" featuring the alluring vocals of Abbi Spinner, further develops the original theme, deepening and expanding the voyage into musical spirit; with their latest release "Soles on Earth" Michael & Katlyn Breene and crew launch into a tribal poly-rhythmic trance dance groove that is no less than phenomenal. Middle Eastern, East Indian and African rhythms combine with sampled vocals from around the world to produce an album that sets the mind, body and spirit free to dance joyously to the pulsing rhythms of life. Definitively the most eclectic of their releases yet, Soles on Earth will stir your soul and get your feet moving. I give it my highest recommendation.

          Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Randy is amazing, her CD is poignant and powerful........1999-01-25

Randy Mason is an extraordinary talent. Her lyrics are poignant, intelligent, and they cut right to the soul. Her voice matches her talent as a songwriter and this is rare all rolled into one. Why isn't she famous? She has several hit songs on one CD and I want to know why she is not on the Letterman show as a new up and coming star.

          5 out of 5 stars Music That's Real.......1999-01-23

In times that are so confusing and difficult, it's good to know you can put on music that can take you away-- for a break and/or bring you back to what's real. Black Dove is a truly beautiful song that makes me feel peaceful. Thanks Randy!

          5 out of 5 stars Randi Mason's debut CD is a rocker's spiritual oasis........1999-01-22

Randi Mason's debut CD "Halfway Through Night" is a rocker's spiritual oasis. This renaissance tough girl has captured "heart and soul" in five hypnotic tracks. Her lyrics and vocals are powerful, yet alluring. Track 2, Black Dove's haunting guitar weaves into her seductive vocals. Track 4 If I Can't Find My Way, a rock tune, has strong guitar riffs that support Randi's poetic angst. Track 5, Night is a graceful ballad, a marriage of vision and vocal elasticity. Randi is in her own genre, a blend of rock and new age, call it "sacred rage". She's Lillith Fair, halfway between Alanis and Enya.

4 out of 5 stars 70's style rock and roll, great music, J. Jett style singing.......1999-01-02

This cd is a great first from a talented performer/singer. Mason brings back the good old style of 70's rock and roll combined with timeless themes. Haunting lyrics and driving guitar licks.

5 out of 5 stars I loved it. She's has a long career ahead of her........1998-12-18

It's too bad untalented artists like Puff Daddy get paid the millions of dollars that they do for what? Covers! The true unsung heroes/heroines are in the grass roots club music scene. Randy is an great example of such talent.
