Rossini: Il barbiere di Siviglia / Abbado, Prey, Berganza, Malagu, et al
Editorial Reviews

Of the recordings of Barber of Seville currently in print, this 1971 set is a good first choice. The first one based on the critical edition of the score, its authenticity (even with a few cuts, most of them minor) is a welcome relief from the bizarre interpolations of some other versions. It boasts a very fine cast in Teresa Berganza's warm, fluent mezzo Rosina--she is arguably the best interpreter of this important role yet to be recorded, Luigi Alva's well-considered Count, and the late Hermann Prey's dashing Figaro. Conductor Claudio Abbado has used the original instrumentation as well as the original score and the original voice part for Rosina, and he conducts his singers sympathetically. --Sarah Bryan Miller

Get the 'Originals' reissue.......2006-08-26
Classic 'Barber' but when I compared this one with the DG 'Originals' I gave this one to the used book store.
Sonics are alot better, whatever they did between this pressing & the new reissue (ASIN B000006NXT) has done alot to clean up the sound.
