Tavener at his best.......2004-02-22

If you like John Tavener's music, you will love this one. The music is hauntingly beautiful and inspired from beginning to end. All the performances are good, but Patricia Rozario as Mary is phenomenal. I highly recommend this opera and this performance without reservations. There is a wonderful exegesis on St. Mary of Egypt by a scholar at www.antonius.org/docs/library/orthodoxy/coptic that is very helpful in understanding the story and appreciating the music.
