After releasing three trio sonatas by Carlo Ambrogio Lonati (1645-1710) on the CD "Simfoniae Romanae" with his Accademia per Musica (CD: 67 025), Christoph Timpe now turns his attention for an entire CD to Lonati's violin sonatas of 1701. These sonatas are of great significance for the Baroque violin literature as they represent the forerunners of the famous sonatas for solo violin by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Very, very pleasant.......2007-01-18

I was a little hesitant to try this, priced as it was, and coming at the end of a NAXOS binge, but I must say it has fast become one of my favourites. The slow introduction with the theorbo quickly becomes an impressive repertoire of soaring (and surpisingly memorable) melodies, without being aggressive.
Absolutely worth every penny.
