Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 6/Marche Slave/Capriccio Italien
Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Not great. Eugene Ormandy made his reputation as a Tchaikovsky "specialist," but all of his best recordings are the ones he did for Sony in the 1960s, which are available as excellently remastered, budget-priced CDs. These later versions are good, but not as good, and even more disturbing, they are markedly less well recorded. Ormandy's Tchaikovsky is well worth having, but only if you take the time to seek out the right versions. Caveat emptor! --David Hurwitz
