From the Label
LYNN HARTING-WARE conveys a dramatic musical flair, beautiful tone, and variety of timbres, which enable her to transverse musical styles and venues with great success. Her recordings and concerts blend traditional classical guitar repertory with her own arrangements for guitar. She has a fresh eclecticism and finds a sense of fun in blending popular styles such as jazz, blues, folk and new age into her classical guitar programs. Following in the footsteps of Clara Schumann, Harting-Ware also composes for her instrument. Her dedication and musicality inspire composers; and she has premiered and commissioned numerous compositions. In 1996, she was honoured with a repertory expansion grant by the Knight Foundation to build a program of 20th century American guitar works. She also works with composer consortiums in presenting music of our century. Harting-Ware has premiered guitar concertos written especially for her as can be heard on Impossible Dream, conducted by Gerhard Samuel. She gratefully acknowledges the support of the Canada Council, Guitar Society of Toronto and Symphony Hamilton for a new guitar concerto composed by Peter Ware. She received a Master of Music Degree from Kent State University and a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Cincinnati/College Conservatory of Music. She teaches music history and rudiments classes; and has written workbooks including Romantic Music and From Bingen to Beethoven that prepare students for the Royal Conservatory of Music examinations. Her commitment to developing the classical guitar repertory leads her to publish a catalog of music for AcomaNambe Editions. Her compact disc recordings include The Many Moods of the Guitar (GXD 5732), Impossible Dream (GXC 5733), Forest Scenes (GXD 5734), Anglecia (GXD 5735) and Americas (GXD 5736). Ms. Harting-Ware performs exclusively on D'Addario strings.
JAMES WALLENBERG was born in Binghamton, New York. In 1978, he joined the Toronto Symphony Orchestra after receiving his Masters of Music Degree from the Yale Graduate School of Music. James is a dedicated chamber musician, who brings his love for humour to rehearsals. Coming from a musical family his early training began with violin from his mother and piano from his father who was the conductor of the Binghamton Symphony. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Ithaca College and while at Yale studied violin with Broadus Erle and Syoko Aki, and chamber music with the Tokyo String Quartet. Past musical experiences reflect his sense of adventure and fun. Prior to the TSO, James played in an orchestra for Emerson Lake & Palmer and continued his diverse musical interests in Toronto performing regularly with a Salsa band. Other interesting moments include wearing cow tights in a milk commercial, appearing in an orchestral scene in the movie Camilla, and performing with The Three Tenors for their Vancouver and Toronto concerts. James performs regularly in chamber music series internationally. This is his debut recording.
ARIS CARASTATHIS was born on May 25, 1957 in Athens, Greece. He completed his Bachelor and Master degrees in music at the University of Northern Iowa; and his Doctorate of Musical Arts Degree from Louisiana State University. Carastathis is currently Chair and Associate Professor of Theory/Composition at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where he also directs the new music ensemble. An Associate Composer of the Canadian Music Centre, Carastathis' music has been performed in Canada, the United States, England and Germany.
CLIFFORD CRAWLEY was born in England on January 29, 1929. He studied composition at the University of Durham and in London with Lennox Berkeley and Humphrey Searle. From 1973-93, he was Professor of Composition and Music Education at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. He is currently Professor Emeritus, living in Toronto.
DOUG DAWSON was born in 1947 in New York City. He obtained degrees from the American University in Washington, D.C. An Associate Professor of Music at American University from 1973 and 1982, he is now a free-lance composer living in Maryland.
ROBERT ROLLIN was born in New York City on February 16, 1947. While in high school, he attended the Juilliard School of Music and later obtained a B.A. at City College of New York. He received his Doctorate at Cornell University, studying with Karel Husa and Robert Palmer. In Hamburg, West Germany he studied with Gyorgy Ligeti. He is currently a Professor at the Dana School of Music, Youngstown State University.
PETER WARE was born May 4, 1951 in Richmond, Virginia and grew up along the Rappahannock River, canoeing its intricate passageways. Ware's early love of music found expression by age four when captured hearts singing "On Top of Old Smokie", while accompanying himself on ukulele. In this simple, rural setting, his talents developed through the church choir and under the piano tutelage of Florence Robertson, a descendent of Beethoven's lineage. At Virginia Commonwealth University, he studied cello with Gisela Depkat and composition with Milton Cherry. At Yale University, he studied composition with Krzysztof Penderecki, Roman Haubenstock-Ramati and Toru Takemitsu; and at the University of Cincinnati with Scott Huston. Ware's musical style continues to evolve, but has always communicated a love of music coupled with a soul searching quality that leaves one with the feeling that some deeper meaning has been imparted.
Ware's teaching experience includes faculty appointments at Queen's University, Brock University, Northern Kentucky University and the University of Cincinnati. In addition to composing and music publishing, Ware has written a series of theory books. These books give voice to his teaching method, which blends the philosophical implications of harmony with the theoretical nuts and bolts. While he teaches piano, theory and composition privately, he finds a captive audience for his work among music students engaged in the Royal Conservatory Examinations. Titles include: Rudiments of Music in the Spheres and Harmony of the Spheres. A respected composer, Peter Ware has been honoured with grants and awards from Yale University, the University of Cincinnati, the Canada Council, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council.
From the Artist
Grand Solo, Op. 15 by Ferdinando Sor (1778-1839) opens with an introduction in D minor, which unfolds in compound duple meter, imparting a lilting quality. An Allegro follows in D major in sonata-allegro form. The exposition opens with an exuberant, propelling motive that is equestrian in character. Riding along with great momentum, theme group one establishes the tonic key with playful, effortless melodies that suggest an afternoon of pastoral bliss on horseback. The themes themselves are... read more
Album Description
Lynn Harting-Ware's most exciting performances are captured here. The programme is an extraordinary blend of traditional large-scale works, such as Sor's Grand Solo with the sophisticated virtuosity of Dowland's most celebratory Fantasia. She plays a group of folksongs, set in a jazz style, with a vocal quality of great beauty. Her own composition, Variations on O Canada! sparkles with an effervescence of true virtuoso writing for the guitar. New musical fare is also to be had in Prelude and Fugue in A minor by J.S.Bach, arranged for guitar by Harting-Ware. Also featured is violinist, James Wallenberg, whose meditative performance in Chama 'the eagle and the plumed serpent'by composer Peter Ware, is awesomely otherworldly. This piece alone is a rarity, with such precise ensemble playing being just the foundation for an extremely expressive duet. The American Variations, a 5-movement duet, pays tribute to Blues, Rock, Bebop and Zuni Indian music. Robert Rollin captures these American styles with a quirky contemporary style. Canadian composers Aris Carastathis (from Greece)and Clifford Crawley (from England) make their first contribution to the guitar repertory with Four Vignettes and Phantasia.

The True Escape.......2006-11-06
This is one of those albums that truly carries you through a portal of relaxation to another dimention. A dimension in which you feel as if you were in some bungalow in the middle of Amazon sitting around a fire surrounded by talented guitar players and excellent flamenco dancers. It is truely an escape and a way to leave your world behind and experience true captivation by the sound of the guitar. In my opinion, the artwork on the cover of the album is a true depiction of the passionate music within. I have had this album for more than 10 years and have listened to it at least a 100 times - it just doesn't get old.
Lush Guitars.......2006-05-23
I would recommend this CD to anyone who enjoys latin flamenco guitar. The music is lush, beautiful, and exotic. It is also great to play for a garden party. I own three Strunz & Farah CDs and they are all awesome but Americas remains my favorite.
GRAND THEFT.......2006-01-07
Can you imagine this??? This is the fifth time I have to buy the CD. Every time my friends leave my house after the party my CD Americas is gone.
No Less Than Five Stars!.......2005-08-06
Strunz and Farah are amazing artists. This album showcases their talent, and proves that they are the best in the business. Do not hesitate to purchase Americas, or Heat of the Sun which I also have and can recommend.
They are always Excellent.......2004-11-01
i am writing an overview for all of their albums cause they are really Excellent..latin flamenco style influenced sometimes by persian composition. Dont hesitate buy any of their albums.

Eliane Elias lived in Sao Paulo, Brazil, until she was 20 and has lived in New York City ever since. The 37-year-old jazz pianist has often combined Brazilian bossa nova and North American swing with appealing results, but now she has added Cuban songo, Argentine tango, and Puerto Rican guaracha for a broader look at Western Hemisphere music on an album aptly titled "The Three Americas." The disc fails to capture Latin rhythms at their most fervid, or jazz improvisation at its most ambitious, but it does combine elements of both into a bouncy, melodic music that should be readily accessible to almost any listener.
Elias has a light but agile touch at the keyboard, and, if this undermines the percussive aspects of the instrument, it also assists the fluidity of her harmonic imagination. She accompanies her piano lines with scat vocals on several numbers, but when she attempts a lead vocal on Antonio Carlos Jobim's "Brigas Nunca Mais," the results are underwhelming. She's much better off on original instrumentals such as "The Time Is Now" and "Caipora," where the Cuban and Brazilian rhythms percolated by percussionists Manolo Badrena and Café create a musical surf that she and flutist Dave Valentin can ride. Best of all is her stirring tribute to Astor Piazzolla on the tango "Chorango," which features Gil Goldstein on accordion. --Geoffrey Himes

Caotic to say the least.......2004-05-06
I really like her music and playing , but this album is not that good . Cohesion is what is missing , too bad , not that there are no good tunes , there are , but kind of weak and disorginized for my taste ...
Eliane's best CD so far, by far.......2003-08-31
This CD hooked me the minute I heard the first note of the first track. Eliane Elias is a tremendous talent, and on this one surrounds herself with great material and great musicians. "Up and Dawn" is fabulous, as are both "The Time Is Now", and "Chorango". The highlight of the CD, for me, seems to be the "lowlight" for a few underinformed 'editorial reviewers' I have read. Elias' renditions of Jobim's "Chega de Saudade" and "Brigas Nunca Mais" feature the virtuoso guitar playing of Oscar Castro-Neves alone with Eliane's bossa-style vocals and 'Jobim-esque' piano solos. Some have refered to these tracks as "lightweight". You listen to the brilliance of Castro-Neves' stunning samba/bossa rhythms along with Elias' heartfelt vocal phrasings and tell me who is crazy - me or the reviewers. My one nitpick is that I feel the CD goes one song over where it should end. Still, a 5-star recording.
Her Best Work.......2003-03-19
I have 6 of her CDs and this is one that I listen to most. The balance between superb straight ahead playing, imaginative originals and of course Elaine's captivting yet unusual vocals makes this a great CD. Buy this CD - you will wear it out.
The Three Americas.......2002-07-04
As a listening experience Elaine Elias is somewhere and something else. This is not just an album of bossas or sambas - this is the stuff you listen to when you need to get into the heart and soul of music. From a rhythmic perspective these pieces are flat out astounding and I've listened to the Milton Nascimentos the Tania Marias and the Chick Coreas. Let me tell you, they can all learn something from Elaine Elias - she outdoes them all.
The fact that she can also swing with the best of them is the delicious icing on the best cake you ever had.
I will be relishing this album for a long time to come.
On the whole, a remarkable album.......1999-12-10
Eliane gives us a sample of her perceptions of the music of both Latin America and North America, forming a cohesive and interesting whole. I'm a bit biased because I'm in love with her voice, but the instrumentals really aren't ALL consistent--thus the 4 stars. The best tracks are by far the 2 vocal Jobim renditions of "Brigas, Nunca Mais" and perhaps my favorite Jobim tune of all "Chega de Saudade". These 2 songs alone make the album worth buying; they are at once seductive, subtle, and sublime. They capture the essence of bossa nova without sounding retrograde. The first track is also a wonderful treat, signifying to me the joy of awakening to a new day, a new era, a new love.

Great sampler of Gershwin's music.......2007-04-14
Classical music came from Europe. Jazz arose in the American deep south as a combination of multiple music genres, most noticeably black folk music and French influences. How ironic that it would take two descendants of Russian Jews to fuse the two together into a distinctly American style of music. The two composers are George and Ira Gershwin. George is the more famous of the two, but both by himself and with his sibling they composed multiple great scores of musics. Many of these have stood the test of time and are now commonly heard in the mass media; Rhapsody in Blue is the ultimate example, and it leads of this two-disc set. Other pieces were composed for operas (Porgy and Bess), Broadway shows (Funny Face), and movies. All of this and other works are found on this set. The recording is great, the sound quality is flawless and the compositions well chosen to provide 2+ hours of music. All told, a great buy for the price.
Gershwin stands the test of time.......2007-03-25
Absolutely the best, still after all these years. I'm very happy with the album.

Imagine having a radio that picks up only electronic music, where every burst of interstation static is followed by some of the most intelligent electronic dance music around. X-Dream make it a reality, giving you eight channels full of creations of their own making on their debut for the London-based Blue Room label. Drawing heavily from the school of full-on fat analog synth sounds, thudding bass, and tightly woven sequences, the two members of X-Dream--Rough and Rush--push incessant and highly captivating sounds your way, nonstop, for over 71 minutes. Watch out for the many and varied hooks that rise to the surface only to fall back into the electronic maelstrom to make way for others of their kind. --Paul Clark
Customer Reviews:
Killer, mega-hot stuff!! - A must buy!!!.......2002-05-07
Whoa, this is one of the best albums in the history of psy trance! I've owned this since '99 and it still sounds the same as if I bought it yesterday...clean, crisp, excellent production. My words...super phat, dark and heavy tunes. Every single song on this is excellent. With a song like Radio to start off, you'll know what you're in for...the frog sound is actually an authentic sample they recorded in a Mexican desert.
Think whenever you hear this, you have to see them live. I like Radio, Freak, Electromagnetic, Telegram, , Psychomachine and Oscillator. This leaves a pathway to their hot new album, Irritant. They are one of the best psy groups ever. Germany creates the best underground music, no wonder it's ground zero for gigs/parties.
Dear Amazon.com: I want more CDs from X-Dream!.......2002-04-25
Usually I go to CD shops and listen to dance CDs and I
usually find myself skipping tracks after and after... Not this
one. Some CDs, in its entirety, just "have it" and this is one
of them: Great beats, great variations and build ups, and very,
very unique but energetic quality that you would find in a good
psy-trance. I am very, very impressed.
ps. The Frog track that you can listen to doesn't do any justice
to listening it in it's entirety.
Never want this X-dream to end.........2000-03-01
This is a Great CD by X-Dream, and their first on BlueRoom, prevously being on Tunnel records. I must say, i dont like this CD as much as "Trip to trancesylvania" or "Our own Happiness", simply for the fact that it has much more of an electronic squeeky-bleepy sound that alot of psychedelic trance has these days, and not as vivid, colorful and melodic as the original Goa that seems to be fading away... THis cd will still rock your mind, your ears, and your arse. Some awesome basslines and killer looping and sequencing, will make you earth/hippy dance till you break a sweat and drop to the floor in epileptic seizures... Oscillator and Telegram are some amazing tracks. Well worth the buy and the shipping wait.
The best psy-trance album ever made...........2000-02-28
This is without doubt the best album i own. The music is really powerful and the soundquality is the best I've heard ever. This is not melodic trance yet, it contains great tracks, that sticks in your mind, and do not wear out. (I listen to it almost everyday). Songs 2,3,5,6,7 are among my alltime favourites... I cannot say this enough, this albums is really the best psytrance ever...
great stuff.......1999-09-28
i purchased this album on a whim, and i don't regret it. slick, smooth as hell psy-trance with a fat analog sound. get it!

GREAT, GREAT, GREAT! This was my first cd by these guys, and it wasn't my last. This disc remains in my CD payer! I would recommend this album to anyone who loves music that contains some good lyrics, music and fun! These guys jam. You will laugh, smile and wonder why you didn't buy this sooner! I play all of their cd's at parties, b/c they are a great addition!
ALSO check out their Woman as Salvation CD (it's my other favorite)
A beautiful, soulful, acoustic live album.......1999-05-14
This album captures the energy that is a Jackopierce concert. The focus is on the right things: great storytelling, strong vocals and wonderful acoustic guitar playing. On the whole, a very mellow album with a few wake up calls with My Baby and Vineyard, the ultimate feel good song. I highly recommend this album.
Perfection!.......1999-05-06
If you love James Taylor or just great acoustic music than you will love this CD. This show captures the great songwriting and talents of these two men. It is everything a live record should be and I promise that if you put this CD on you won't stop listening to it. It's better than Lays brand potato chips. I wish this band was still together but alas stuff happens. Anyway, this CD is amazing and I hope you at least try it because I swear, its that good!!!!!

A great piece of art!.......2007-07-19
Yes, this is art. It is a completely and beautifully put together project using many, many well known musicians that wanted to participate. I'm very glad that they did. Rarely does one come upon something like this. It is not to be looked at as a Jon Anderson or Jim Morrison piece of work. To do so is to make a big mistake. Buy this, listen to it as a whole, let it sink in and you will understand what I mean...and you will be grateful for each participant for making this come out as the piece of art that it is. I rarely say that about such projects, but I'm proud to say it about this one! Good work, people!
The Whole World Is Coming?.......2006-07-06
This album is a collection of well known musicians including Jon Anderson (Yes) who sings on two tracks. Unfortunately, one of the songs has two parts and Michael Bolton "sings" part two, which is not indexed for your CD player to skip. Jim Morrison's voice is featured, reading poems similar to his "An American Prayer" (great album!). If you like native American chanting and drumming between tracks of songs and poems sung and read by different performers, you might like this. It is a sincere and respectful tribute to the native Americans. The last words on the album are read by Martin Sheen... "the whole world is coming". I doubt it, and certainly not listening to this. For Anderson completests, you get about 12 minutes of his voice, thus the two star rating.
What a journey!.......2004-08-15
I've been a fan of Yes for many years, so when I found this CD and it said that Jon Anderson was on it, I adopted it immediately, figuring that it was worth the few bucks just for his contributions. Well, lo and behold - the entire CD is fantastic! Every song is well crafted and the guests were perfect for each one. The piece that's attributed to Jim Morrison is actually recordings of his poetry put to music, which is great. The native american artists are wonderful also. If you can't find anything on this CD to be happy about, then there's definately something wrong with your ears! The two songs that Jon Anderson sings remind me of his days with ABWH. I also found the bit that Martin and Charlie Sheen speak to be beautiful. I finally found a great buy in the cut-out bin!

"Punk rock change my life...".......2007-01-30
The Minutemen said it best, but to be more accurate "D4 change my life!" I was fortunate enough to spend my late teens and on submersed in and around the Twin Cities punk scene. And Dillinger Four was as big a part of it as anything else. Not enough can be said about this album, every entry in the D4 catalog can stand on its own, but Midwestern Songs is probably the best "punk" album to come out in a long time (probably the best overall album of the late 90's any genre). Nothing can be beat D4 live, but this album is as close as it comes, and that says a lot.
avril lavinge is so right about at least one thing.......2006-12-24
d4 is "punk"...i guess. or the only punk band i've chanced to hear recently that has any clue about what they're doing and where they came from. love the samples on this one more than the others, though the "style wars" bite on "situationist comedy" is great..."shut your little trap inc." is a personal fav. if you really want to scrap with a minneapolite just mention that you think these guys are better than the replacements...like jesus jokes in bethleham.
The Perfect Punk Album.......2005-08-22
I am a punk rocker at heart, and will be to the day I die. I have many friends, however, who never immersed themselves in this subculture the way I did, and so don't always understand what I see in such simplistic music with abrasive vocals, and, often, sloppy production. This CD explains all this. This CD has absolutly everything a punk rock CD should have. Sing-along choruses, blistring drum beats, witty song titles, and amazing socially concious lyrics. The people who complain about being unable to understand what Dillinger Four is singing about would do well to open up that little booklet that came with the CD and read the lyrics. Dillinger Four is a band that suckers you in with the classic punk abrasiveness, and then hits you with intelligent lyrics that put most poets and writers to shame. If only all social critics were as astute and honest with their assesments of what it's like to be an American today, we might have a smarter group of people running around. If you like punk rock, or you did one day, this is the record that will remind you what you saw in all this craziness in the first place.
close to a masterpiece.......2005-04-23
I don't want to resort to meaningless cliches like every other person on the planet writing a music review, but this album rocks. No two songs sound the same, and the vocals are really well done. They are awesome live, and I can truly say this album helped shape the soundtrack of my youth. Oh, and Wisconsin sucks.
Blah.......2005-04-20
Bought this album based on the strong showing on Rock Against Bush II. Too bad I cannot return it and get something else.
The music is good enough, but the vocals are weak and completely masked by bad mixing. Sad, I like to hear what they are saying...
Doubtful this will get much more play, after the 3 listens it has already gotten. If you want something really good, go get GC5 or the Hudson Falcons...

Voodoo Suite Review.......2005-08-15
When I was young, I heard the Voodoo Suite and I was memerized. Now, 40 years later, it sounds like an amatuer mambo band playing stupid music. I believe this Voodoo Suite is NOT the original Perez Parado composition although it purports to be. My taste in music has not changed over all these years.

MAMBO ON !!!.......2005-02-02
GREAT... WACKY... TRIBAL... PULSATING...MONDO...WEIRD...20+ minutes of VOODOO SUITE, kindda like Martin Denny lost in the Twilight Zone!!! ST. JAMES INFIRMARY is also REALLY STRANGE (unique). In fact, the whole DOUBLE-ALBUM cd rocks/swings/grunts/moans & hypnotizes the listener into craving more. This is REALLY a pretty good time & I loved every minute of it. Give it a try...just imagine Ricky Riccardo & Fred Mertz having the lead roles in the cult film FORBIDDEN ZONE...Oingo Boingo!!!
A one-of-a-kind trip through the history of music.......1998-10-07
The first half of this album is an incredibly authentic-feeling, as well as truly entertaining, exploration of the development of jazz. It starts with hypnotic tribal chanting, then moves into ritualistic drumming and talking drums, and eventually ends up in a wild, Afro-Cuban big band jam. If this sounds academic at all, forget it. This album swings from beginning to end. I've had the album for 35 years, and I still look forward to hearing it. The second half is typical Perez Prado; hard-swinging Afro-Cuban big band mambo madness.

Customer Reviews:
great sampler of Williams career; cheap price.......2005-08-20
Intersounds records has put together a great one disc compilation of music from the career of John Williams. Most of the tracks are taken from Intersounds' "Magic of the Movies" CD series from a few years ago performed by Mexico City's Orchestra of the America under the baton of Bill Broughton (brother of popular composer Bruce). The playing is first rate and the liner notes are informative as well. In addition, a couple of the tracks are performed by the San Diego Symphony Pops Orchestra under the baton of Lalo Schifrin (composer of the famous Mission Impossible theme). Pick this one up if you are a casual film music fan who hasn't heard much of John Williams, or if you are someone who wants to hear another orchestra's take on the music of the maestro.
