Vivaldi: Concertos Op.8

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
These days it's fashionable among Baroque music aficionados to say that only the young Italian groups like Il Giardino Armonico have the flair and imagination to make Vivaldi's concertos sound exciting instead of routine. Well, it isn't necessarily so. The Four Seasons is surely as overexposed as classical music can be, yet the UK-based Raglan Baroque Players and the gifted violinist Monica Huggett make enchanting and even exciting music out of it. Their playing is clean, energetic, and rhythmically supple--granted, they don't go to the astonishing extremes of tempo you sometimes hear from Rinaldo Alessandrini and Concerto Italiano, but they're a long way from "sewing-machine Baroque." Dynamics are another matter: Huggett, in particular, plays daringly softly at times--and her courage pays off, drawing a listener close as if to hear her whisper secrets. (It was brave also of Virgin's recording engineers not to pump up the volume electronically.) Along with The Four Seasons, this two-for-one budget reissue includes the other eight concertos that Vivaldi published in his collection Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione ("The Contest Between Harmony and Invention"). Huggett and her colleagues play them with verve, but to these ears, at least, most of those remaining concertos don't have the same inventiveness and spark as their more famous counterparts. (Concerto No. 10, "The Hunt," is engaging, however, as are the double concertos that round out the second disc.) This release is an excellent value, although you probably shouldn't listen to it all in one sitting. --Matthew Westphal

So lovely I think we'll need to get a second copy because we might just wear out the one we have! The concertos are an especially nice added treat!

I'm not really much in the way of a music expert, but I really enjoyed this cd.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful recording!.......2007-05-20

I purchased this recording for my grandson, who is studying the Vivaldi Violin Concerto in A minor. This is a fortunate time for instrumental music students, as, through the medium of digital sound, they can purchase a CD and hear the music, as played by world-class players.

The CD technology eliminates the old game of "drop the needle!" Wonderful!

I recently purchased a boxed set of the recorded work of classical clarinetist Reginald Kell. It was wonderful to hear that music again! I lost my LPs in a fire, and never thought I could find them again!

I just love CDs! And thank you, Amazon, for giving us a pipeline to such wonderful music!

Four seasons is one of my favorite pieces. With Itzhak Perlman at the helm, this rendition is flawless as one would rightfully expect.

5 out of 5 stars Four Seasons - Ozawa.......2006-08-28

The Four Seasons by Vivaldi always provides for 'easy listening'. Hearing it when conducted by Seiji Ozawa makes it even better. I have it on another CD which I now keep in the car, but the CD on which Ozaza conducts the BSO is the one I keep at my computer for near-daily listening.

By the way, your quick, efficient service was noted and is appreciated.

I have not yet found a better recording of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" than this one by the Boston Symphony on the Telarc label. It is so clear and crisp and Joel Silverstein will move you with his violin. Highly recommended for any lover of Vivaldi!

5 out of 5 stars By far the best recording of the Four Seasons.......2006-02-03

Head and shoulders above the rest, this recording recieved a grammy nomination. After hearing this CD, I find it difficult to listen to other recordings of The Four Seasons. The playing is extremely tight and doesnt have the over dramatic flair which is so common and unwelcome on other recordings. Just listen to a preview clip of 'Presto' (Summer) on this CD and the various other Four Seasons Offerings here on Amazon and you understand what I am talking about.

4 out of 5 stars A good recording, but lacks a little presence.......2007-07-16

Almost anything sounds great in SACD and this performance is no exception, but if you're used to a 100 piece orchestra strumming violins to this score, you might be slighly disappointed. If you are looking for a different take on the four seasons and would appreciate the distinctive sound of a just a few instruments, this is for you

5 out of 5 stars Accessible and enjoyable Vivaldi.......2006-03-19

Vivaldi is practically as synonymous with virtuosic violin arrangements as McDonalds is with fat. Practically. Janine Jansen's arrangements for Vivaldi's Four Seasons is stark, graceful, and engaging- she assigns only one musician per part. The sometimes overwhleming grandeur of fully orchestrated arrangements is appreciatively mellowed, allowing the ear to really hear each musician and their expected "virtuosic" and precise talent. Though mellowed to nearly Starbucks ambiance, the arrangements manage to retain the energy and excitement of Vivaldi in a fresh and accessible new form.

Despite global warming, Vivaldi's The Four Seasons is more popular than ever. But it still seems strange that Gidon Kremer and his Kremerata Baltica ensemble--a group that continues to stun us with riveting performances of lesser-heard works--would tackle the tried-and-true baroque masterpiece. Luckily, Kremer inventively separates each Vivaldi season with a corresponding composition from Astor Piazzolla's Four Seasons Suite, making for fascinating comparisons. Kremer's performances of the Vivaldi are remarkable, sounding solid and fresh. And like an infectious Broadway musical, Piazzolla's seasons always seem on the verge of a giddy dance number. Kremer really gets to show off on these tango-inspired pieces, but he's charming throughout. The programming probably won't make this your reference Four Seasons, but for those who love their Vivaldi in small doses or fans of Kremer's Tango Ballet disc, this is a must-have. --Jason Verlinde

5 out of 5 stars Music ALIVE!.......2006-03-12

I really know hardly anything about Argentinan music or Kremer, but I bought this album after I became enraptured with the spring and summer suites at a ballet. My local company created a piece inspired by the works of expatriate artist Amaranth Ehrenhalt and set to alternating Vivaldi and Piazzola selections. I was amazed by how Vivaldi's Seasons took on new life. Everything was vivid and fluid and meshed perfectly with the dance. I recommend this--you can truely feel the seasons alive in all of their glory.
BTW: Rio de la Plata means River of Silver.

5 out of 5 stars Full Circle With Kremer's Eight Seasons.......2005-10-19

Gidon Kremer has been building himself quite the reputation as an interpreter of the music of the late and great Argentine musical polymath, Astor Piazzolla. Here he takes the very well-known Four Seasons of Vivaldi and stands them up to the Four Seasons of Piazzolla and the result is an aural delight.
Most who are reading this are probably curious about this CD for one of two reasons: either they are Vivaldi fans, or they are Piazzolla fans. But who says that being a fan of one has to exclude the other? After you listen to this, you are likely to become a fan of the music of both composers and of Gidon Kremer as well if you were not already.
Being a huge Piazzolla fan,I never tire of hearing different interpretations of one of his most important works. The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires may be born of tango, but it is much more than that. It is a masterful marriage of classical elements with those of tango. Piazzolla could do many things with music and what he has created with his Four Seasons is an electrifying blend that will stand the test of time.
And so here is Gidon Kremer with yet another skillful and faithful interpretation of the both the spirit and the letter of Astor Piazzolla's music, cleverly juxtaposed with that of one of the Old Masters. Kremer brings us full circle with his presentation of the Four Seasons sequences of both composers, beginning with Vivaldi's La Primavera (Spring) and after a musical journey through the year, ending with Primavera Portena (Buenos Aires Spring) so that we finish where we began.
Kremer and his Kremerata Baltica do a virtuoso job throughout. Though I am a partisan of the music of Piazzolla, I enjoy Kremer's interpretation of Vivaldi as well. If you know and love this music as I do, then Eight Seasons merits an esteemed slot in your CD collection.

5 out of 5 stars Rapturous.......2004-07-21

Parts of this recording are so beautiful that when I listen while working, I have to pause what I am doing and close my eyes. I don't remember how I ended up buying this CD (it certainly wasn't planned), but I am so grateful.

My rabbit hates it though. When I listen to it at home, he stamps his feet. So I can only listen to it at work. :(

5 out of 5 stars "Eight wonders".......2003-02-24

Gidon Kremer's musical explorations were very famous from the beginning and during the last few years he is gaining almost a "classical superstar" status. I was a little suspicious about those beautifully packaged CDs with sort of "trendy" and almost too interesting sounding titles for serious classical achievements. BUT!! I couldn't be more wrong. "After Mozart" or "Eight Seasons" seem to be some of the most inspiring recordings I've heard. While listening to "Eight Seasons" at "concert" levels in a privacy of my room, I felt "goose bumps" for several times and I had to laugh out of pleasure, thinking: this is SOOO good. Gidon Kremer and his "baltic fresh" Kremerata Baltica are pursuing and tacking the pure essence of music. Programming the mix of Piazzola and Vivaldi doesn't seem extraordinary anymore. It is pure music, pure joy. Technical bravura and excellent sound are only side things. Tango nuevo - widely popularized music form and one of the most (ab)used baroque masterpieces join as one in a fresh and artistically meaningful entity. What more can we wish for ?
Piazzola sounds energetic and powerful and Vivaldi the freshest out of numerous interpretetions. Mixed in an interesting sequence they form a new "Opus".

I also strongly recommend "After Mozart" with its mixture of contemporary music and timeless, for many "godlike" Mozart. A recording that makes him human and even more divine at the same time.

5 out of 5 stars From the River Plate (Rio de la Plata)........2002-11-10

The River Plate, an akward translation from the spanish "Rio de la Plata", is the widest river on the world. It both separates and bonds Buenos Aires with Montevideo, capitals cities of Argentina and Uruguay respectively. If I could ask Billy Joel how would he name this river, I think that much alike his excellent album "River of Dreams", he would call it "River of Tango".
Yesterday night I attended Mr. Kremer and the Baltic Kamerata's performance, where in addition to Mahler's 10th Adaggio, they played these "eight seasons". I think that for Mr. Kremer and his ensemble, coming to play to South America and precisely to the birthplace of tango, could be a "tour the force".
Well, he & the Kamerata were magnificient, classy. He kept us on our feet, applauding, for more than fifteen minutes.
This CD has capture the thrilling of his live performances. It is the kind of recording that becomes a milestone in our "audio memory", as Mr. Karajan liked to say. Enjoy it.

This is beautiful from start to finish. The vitality and color really captures the spirit of Vivaldi/Four Seasons.

Often, I just go "WHOA" at music that speaks to me, which I've done on practically every single track here.

    5 out of 5 stars Inspirational Recording.......2007-07-14

Like many others, I have loved the Four Seasons so much over time, that I've played it to death. It had become so farmiliar that it was actually somewhat irritating. Listening to this recording changed all that for me. To use a tired phrase, it was like hearing the piece for the first time. The performance is precise, yet passionate. The orchestration may be considered by some to be a little thin, but that is made up for by the exillerating clarity. Finally, the technical quality of this recording is extraudinary. One more tired phrase, if you'll permit me, it's like sitting front row center at a live performance. Buy it! You'll love it!!

5 out of 5 stars A great piece of work.......2006-05-24

I don't pretend to understand all the nuances of classical music. But as a listener I really enjoy it. That said, this piece by Gil is a fantastic piece. I have heard several other "Four Season" recordings, and since I have listened to this one, there are no equals (to me anyway).

5 out of 5 stars Juicy, sumptuous and especially Dramatic.......2006-04-29

Of the myriad of modern-instrument Vivaldi Seasons recordings available, this Gil Shaham recording is just about as good as it gets. Perhaps it eclipses previous recordings by Nigel Kennedy and the Decca recording with Marriner. Shaham scores points over all his modern-instrument rivals with a true spirit of collaboration with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, as if their playing were taking them on a voyage into Vivaldi's picturesque world. Their playing is always fresh-sounding, youthful, alert and spontaneous, and rhythms are well-sprung.

Throughout this performance, we hear how Shaham and Orpheus give their all in bringing out the very best in Vivaldi's score. The spirit that pervades the whole performances beguiles us from the first, positive bars of the Spring concerto, where we can truly feel the embrace of Spring's awakening. Summer is given a suitably dramatic performance, and one can feel the Orpheus players revelling in the ferocity of the summer storm that ravages the land, complete with Shaham's poignant commentaries, especially when portraying the hapless shepherd farmer who loses his corn to the summer storm. Autumn has a suitably rustic atmosphere, with Shaham doing double-duty as tipsy drunkard and fleeing beast during the fiercely vigorous hunting finale. And Winter allows us to feel the true contrasts, with Shaham's technical brilliance in the outer movements contrasting with the sheer lyricism of the slow movement, while the Orpheus playwers ably evoke the cold, bleak atmosphere of the sonnet. The DG recording is clear and beautifully balanced, and the Kreisler concerto makes an unusual and controversial fill-up, together with the bonus CD-Rom of the Winter video. Yet I would have liked there to be the bonus CD of Shaham talking about the music and introducing each concerto, as it would have been more illuminating.

All told, this superb CD should stand as a fresh, artistic success of a modern-instrument Vivaldi Seasons, due to the performers' ability to engage themselves with Vivaldi's soundworld. There is always rhythmic control and you feel that the sense of structure is there. Perhaps this should be the modern-instrument equivalent of Trevor Pinnock's equally celebrated version...

5 out of 5 stars Reply to Nutmegger.......2005-10-14

I've listened to this cd many times, and have enjoyed each time more and more. I also listened while reading the score, and I have to point out that Gil has actually ad libbed a LOT in this recording. To me, it sounds like he was attempting to add a bit of romanticism to an early classical concerto. Some may think that's sacriledge, but I myself think it's a clear indication of the man's ingeniuity and sheer mastery of what you consider 'too much perfection'. I'm sorry, but that seems a bit absurd to me. I've heard people complain about Karajan's interpretations as being too beautiful, but never about someone being too perfect. Honestly, I think your initial reaction was right on. I encourage you to re-examine....hopefully, not while you're doing laundry. :-)

Another Four Seasons, but this one shoots to the top of the list. Fabio Biondi's imaginative playing is full of spunk and vigor, delineating Vivaldi's scene-painting without overdoing it. His band matches him with rhythmic vitality; this is one Vivaldi set that holds your interest from start to finish.

In his program notes, Biondi explains the use of the "Manchester" manuscript of the Four Seasons, which was closer to the composer's intentions than editions published later, and he discusses the manuscript sources for the other works. The Four Seasons are the first four concertos of Vivaldi's Opus 8 set of a dozen, titled Il cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione (The Trial of Harmony and Invention). The others may not share the Seasons' popularity, but they're of comparable excellence, especially in performances as exciting as these. First-rate sound, close-up and immediate, underscores the vibrancy of the performances. Biondi's 1991 Four Seasons on Opus 111 is still in the catalog, but this one scores because Virgin includes the complete Opus 8 on two discs for the price of one. --Dan Davis

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional Playing .......2007-07-12

Over the years my preference in Vivaldi records has run to Christopher Hogwood and the Academy of Ancient Music but this recording of Il cimento dell'armonica e dell'inventionae (the combat between harmony and invention) is certainly the most energetic and inventive performance that I have heard. What makes this recording different is that Europa Galanta has gone back to the original manuscripts preserved in the libraries of Manchester, Turin and Dresden. The manuscripts reveal a freedom with the manuscript versions on the concerto that does not exist with the published versions. Fabio Biondi examined the manuscripts and where there was multiple versions would sometimes combine ideas from both for tempi but reject notions made by hands other than Vivaldi's. The performance practice that comes out of the manuscripts brings different dynamics and tempi to the performance.

Antonio Vivaldi's opus 8 collection of concerti was meant to astonish with their brilliance of invention, experimenting with instrumental combinations and pushing the orchestral colors to their limits. Arguably, the prominent first four concertos - The Four Seasons - took the idea of invention and colorful description to new heights. However, the popularity of the first four concertos (The Four Seasons) of Vivaldi's opus 8 has come at the expense of relegating the remaining concerti of the collection to obscurity. There is no evidence that Vivaldi arranged the concertos in order of most superior to least and they are recorded here, except for the Four Seasons, out of their numbered order. The fifth concerto, la tempesta de mare, is an exuberant and tuneful concerto with alternate dramatic and calm that seems to depict the fury of a storm. The sixth concerto, Il piacere, explores the idea of pleasure using a laughter-like theme in the first movement, followed by a movement suggesting sleep and a dance-like finale.

The second disc in this set begins with concerto No. 11, which begins with an exuberant first movement followed by a beautifully reflective middle movement with an extensive solo violin part; the Finale is interplay of harmonies with the soloist pitting himself against the other players with a very demanding part. Another of the named concertos, la caccia (or the hunt) - the 10th concerto, follows and is a real tour-de-force with its bold rhythms. The 8th, 9th and 12th concerti explore a richness of melody and invention that is astonishing: the 12th is a joyful concerto with the players leaping to high and low register and the 9th with its more reflective character with the soloist playing a more intimate part.

The music is beautifully recorded and balanced and it is accompanied with a very informative booklet that includes remarks by Fabio Biondi as to how he selected the versions of the concerti played here. A very rewarding set that will be of interest despite how many copies of the Four Seasons you might already have.

    5 out of 5 stars Barock'n'roll.......2007-01-19

Truly swinging and joyfull playing by Europa Galante and Biondi. Perhaps not truthfull to original partitur but very exciting and dramatic. Excelent sound!

5 out of 5 stars The Gold Standard for Vivaldi .......2006-08-18

I will not say much about the performance of the SEASONS as others have already done so. Suffice to say that this is one of the essential versions in that it brilliantly realizes the "mannerist" pictorial spirit of the work. For vitality, imagination, and excitement, this is a rendition that, for many listeners, will beat all others hands down.

I would like to comment more extensively on the remaining eight concertos in the set. Generally speaking, the works in Vivaldi's published opuses represent the best of his achievements. Especially noteworthy in Opus 8 are three non-titled concertos: no. 7 in D minor, suffused with aristocratic reserve and melancholy; no. 8 in G minor, with a soulful largo inspired by the polyphonic chorale style; and the theatrically brilliant no. 11 in D major. Then there are two concertos, in D minor and C major, which Vivaldi specified could be played either on oboe or violin; here they are performed on the latter instrument, and I can't blame Biondi for wanting it that way. Of the three pictorial or programmatic works, "La tempesta di mare" and "La caccia" are musically rather insubstantial noise-pieces, while "Il piacere" is a nice evocation of the idea of pleasure which approaches the airy GALANT style.

The violin Fabio Biondi uses here has a fuller sound than the one he used on his version of L'ESTRO ARMONICO (also on Virgin Veritas), and he also avoids many of the fussy eccentricities that marred that recording. I would argue with the speedy tempo taken for the first movement of no. 11 (this seems out of keeping with the imitative texture), but as always with Europa Galante the interpretations are passionate and authoritative, and the recorded sound is crystal-clear. I have a feeling, after listening to this CD, that the Europa Galante way of approaching Italian baroque music will eventually become the standard.

5 out of 5 stars Not your momma's Four Seasons .......2006-04-12

Like most younger generation music enthusiasts, I'm sure, Vivaldi's Four Seasons played a very prominent role, in many cases serving as a portal through which many neophytes passed on their journey into the wonderful world of classical music. Even if attempted, how could one avoid it? These eternally ubiquitous concertos have seem to have been arranged for every instrument from harmonica and banjo to celesta and bass trombone and have served as the themes for countless films, including the Alan Alda picture of the same title. It's this same over exposure that would eventually turn my genuine fondness for these works into one of intense dislike. My disdain was so great that if I ever heard the concertos again it would be too soon. Enter the BBC and their weekly program "Building a Library" which featured Vivaldi's complete Op. 8, "Il Cimento dell'armonia e dell'inventione" of which The Four Seasons are the first concerto. Normally I would just skip over a segment I didn't particularly care for, but I was interested in what the reviewer had to say about the other works, none of which, though popular, have ever quite achieved the status of the "Seasons." It was these works that held my attention throughout and I found the playing unbelievably intense and alive, with just the right amount of urgency to make the works sound fresh and exciting but never forced and rushed. That same afternoon, I purchased the CD and I couldn't believe what I heard. Even the "seasons" a work that I thought I could hum in my sleep, jumped off the CD and the room with amazing colors and a vivacity and relevance that was awe inspiring. Yes, it's incredibly fast where it needs to be, yet it's never done at the expense of the music. The music is not at the mercy of virtuoso ensemble, Europa Galante, but rather the other way around, seemingly swept away by their excitement at reshaping these war-horses into something new without distorting Vivaldi's ideas or beautiful melodies. Using a different manuscript than what is normally used, Biondi and company relish every opportunity to demonstrate just how significant these works can be. There are percussive elements and striking use of pizzicato, oboes replacing violins (as was Vivaldi's original intent) and greater prominence to the continuo. In short, this ain't your momma's Four Seasons. Even if you, like me, can't stand the thought of hearing Concerto No. 1 "Spring" ever again, give this incredible recital a chance; I guarantee you'll be blown away. By the way, the sound quality is through the roof, with striking clarity, presence and warmth.

    5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2005-12-09

This recording left me stunned and speechless. Every bar makes for fascinating listening, and the frequent surges of adrenalin must be heard to be believed. What's most remarkable is that we've all heard these works 80 million times. I would name highlights, but there are too many. Bravo, Biondi! Have these guys recorded the Brandenburgs? If not, I hope they do soon.

    5 out of 5 stars SPRING, SUMMER, AUTUMN & WINTER-WHAT A RIDE.......2002-04-10

I WOULD CALL THIS A MASTERPIECE.
Vivaldi's THE COMPLETE FOUR SEASONS is a masterful and beautiful work of art.
    1. Spring= light hearted and sweet combination of chill and warmth fill the air. He, Vivaldi, makes you think of holding hands, soft tender kisses and the gentle blowing of flowers in a vast yet tenderly beautiful field.
    2. Summer= warm with a strong heart yet loving. Vivaldi makes use of the idea of a powerful thunderstorm in the form of music. During his summer, that is Vivaldi's, you get the urge to hike to some forrest and listen to the gentle water running down a creek. While in the forrest you get to experience the spectacle of a well orchestrated thunderstorm that only Mother Nature can put on.
    3. Autumn (I hate the word fall)= a time for celebrating and relaxation. You think of family gatherings, hot cider, pumpkins and the many hues of new colors blossoming around you. Vivaldi is like an painter; you feel as though he is re painting the world and his music is the paint.
    4. Winter= chilled to the bone and yet warmth when you need it. Vivaldi is like "Old Man Winter"; the mood is right for being indoors with the ones you love. Outside, snow is all around, wind is gusting against the windows and ice is dangerous to walk on. But you manage to avoid all of this by relaxing by the fireside.
I purchased this cd because of Patrick Stewart. What I got out of it was a masterpiece in every sense of the word. This was already a great work of art; Patrick Stewart (aka Captain Jean-Luc Picard) just made it even better.
If you are a classic music fan get this cd. Light a few candles or start a fire in you fireplace, snuggle up to the one you love and make sure this cd is on.

4 out of 5 stars Patrick Stewart is AWESOME.......2001-10-18

This may seem like another recording of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, but it isn't. This version adds another element that Vivaldi included in his writing that few people apply today.

Vivaldi originally wrote poems to go along with each season, and Patrick Stewart reads the poetry here. He does a WONDERFUL job, putting expression and feeling into each poem.

Otherwise, this is not my favorite recording of the Four Seasons, but it still is pretty good. Stewart adds a wonderful element to the CD, which is the main reason I got it.

Also the CD art is different on my copy. It shows Arnie Roth and Patrick Stewart on the cover... I don't know I guess they changed it.

    Wonderful version!

4 out of 5 stars Poetry reading makes this unique.......1999-08-25

Okay, so Arnie Roth is not the greatest violinist of our times, nor is this the greatest version of Vivaldi's Four Seasons, BUT, Patrick Stewarts wonderful reading of Vivaldi's poetry written along with the concertos a unique and very pleasing addition to any classical library.

5 out of 5 stars Yum Yum Yum this is a delicious feast of relaxation.......1999-01-16

Put this CD on when you want to wander around your home or at work and be relaxed and refreshed. Better yet, put it on when and simply enjoy the poetry and music blended together. It's like air freshener for your head.

Violins, harpsichords, basso continuo, what can I say.
    Vivaldi ROCKS ! ! ! !
Excellent selection of his music and as usual flawlessly performed by the english consort.

4 out of 5 stars A Little More Vivaldi Please.......2003-12-28

This budget-priced, slim paper-sleeved box set of various Vivaldi Concertos on the DG/Archiv label is quite excellent. Trevor Pinnock, directing from the harpsichord and organ, leads the English Concert (an all-star cast including Roy Goodman and Simon Standage, both of whom have graduated to the podium in recent years) in digital recordings from the late 80s. Since the track information is not abundantly clear above, allow me to mention that the first two discs of this set feature various Concertos, discs 3 & 4 contain the complete "L'estro amonico" op. 3, and CD5 six Flute Concertos op. 10. While I have never been a big fan of period-instrument recordings, there is nothing I can complain about here. The performances are warm, spirited, and thoroughly engaging, and certainly not academic. In fact, my only complaint is that there is not more to listen to. I popped this set in my 5-disc changer over the Holidays, and was disappointed to find it end so soon, being that four of the five CDs log in at the mid-50 minute mark and one only at a whopping 45:08. By my calculations, there is easily room for an additional two hours of material here! Alas, it is the only problem with an otherwise stellar set.
