Customer Reviews:
A good value.......2007-05-17
I wasn't expecting to have 4 discs for this price, and the music is a quality selection of film music, giving a good scope of the genre, and a very listenable transfer.
The Sound Track Since Bernard Hermann.......2006-07-25
This collection is bound to capture your heart and evoke a tin ear on successive tracks. I found much to like and some duds - easy to skip over.
Very good value.
Good mix of film music.......2006-07-02
Good mix of films!
I'm a big fan of this soundtrack music and will be looking for more CD's like this.
A mixed collection of movie music.......2006-02-23
For the price, this CD is a great bargain. The musical selections, as you might expect, are mixed in quality ranging from extraordinary to so so, the balance being worthwhile and interesting. Sonically the CD is excellent.
Uplifts your soul, takes your mind into the heavens.......2006-01-06
I have been listening to great scores for many years and this collection is truly inspirational in so far as the choice of different scores takes you on a journey of listening pleasure matched by only a few collections. The price is incredibly reasonable for hours of listening pleasure. Album Description
Their latest record follows a brief two-year hiatus and is their most diverse album in the past ten years. Angry and other times haunting vocals are forged to incessant beats, permeating melodies, and relentless bass lines. Fans of The Cure will love "Crushed", while experienced VAC listeners will appreciate the intensity of "Wound" and "Lust", at the same time finding a slightly different vocal style in "Parasite". "Lust For Blood" proves that VAC hasn't even begun to tap into the innovations they're capable of, even with a decade of musical experience under their belt.
Customer Reviews:
This is the essential masterpiece we have longed for!.......2007-03-01
'Lust For Blood' is the album that cements Bryan's master attention to details and textures to his range of influences. This album is remarkably cunning and a powerful listening experience. Each track is a sonic experience that moves through many levels. Each album Bryan creates is an edification in sound. They mystify and dig into your guts in wicked ways! 'Lust' is an expanse of beautiful noise and fortified angst. Velvet Acid Christ will curdle your blood and exploit your dance moves in ways you might have thought not possible.
I have one grand wish to make! Would love to hear and see these songs played live Bryan! One day...we can all hope!
Yay for new VAC material.......2006-11-26
I am relatively new to Velvet Acid Christ's music so I can't pretend to be an expert on their music. I recently acquired the new VAC album "Lust for Blood". I was not disappointed to say the very least. "Lust for Blood" has all the elements in electro/industrial music that I like. Normally I do not enjoy distorted vocals but in this case, I liked the distorted vocals. The only negative thing about the distorted vocals that I couldn't understand what Bryan Erickson was singing about without looking at the cd booklet. I especially loved the instrumental tracks which were quite beautiful, a far contrast from the harsh distorted beats of the other songs. I wasn't too impressed with VAC's previous studio effort "Hex Angel". It wasn't bad but it wasn't all that great either. The music didn't really capture the essence of Velvet Acid Christ like their previous albums and now "Lust for Blood". The lyrics may be cheesy but at least Bryan Erickson doesn't take himself too seriously with his music like a lot of industrial bands do.
disconnected nightmare.......2006-10-29
not the greatest album by VAC, but not the worst, either. the real stand-out tracks are, in my opinion, 'wound', 'blood' and especially 'lust'. the entire album is enjoyable, kind of a more-enjoyable "hex angel". the best version of 'wound', however, is on the 'wound' cd single....bryan should really sing on more tracks, the songs sound more interesting when he does. 'blood' has a metal feel to it, and 'lust' sounds like something The Cure might've written. i would recommend buying the album; it's got some good tracks on it. it's not as danceable as "fun with knives" or ttg, but it's better than "hex angel".
Disappointing.......2006-10-19
Most of the music on this album is very good, however, the vocals and lyrics leave a lot to be desired. The vocals are distorted because let's face it, Bryan can't sing or write good lyrics. Another low point is movie samples. There is nothing more pleasant than hearing low quality samples with background noise, and static in your music. The worst song is "Lust" - same guitar riff for 3 minutes, and very uninspired lyrics. The instrumental tracks are excellent though.
Like a wound that won't stop bleeding..........2006-10-02
VAC has really impressed me with this one... I was fearing it may be worse than 2003's "Hex Angel" (good album but weak for VAC standards if you ask me). I'm happy to report that this album really delivers. You will find Bryan trying all kinds of genres here (rock, synth pop, trance, EBM, industrial) and there are some real stand outs here. My personal favorites would be the 3 instrumentals: Ghost in the Circuit, Psychoactive Landscape and Ghost Regen. VAC has become something really special in the electronic music world.

?????.......2006-10-04
Just listening to these sound clips-I can't believe velvet revolver would release such an album. I can appreciate string quartets...but this is absolutely unbelievable. I wonder what would have made them release this? This is NOT rock at all. And four string instruments are no way going to capture the essence of Contraband. I am just in awe that this type of cd exists. No vocals or guitar or drums...Just a string quartet. This is SO not rock n roll....I HOPE the album that they are releasing soon is not going to end up like this...Talk about the downfall of rock n roll.
can't get enough of it.......2005-08-28
If you're like me, and can't get enough of the original album by Velvet Revolver, I think you'll love this. Each song is well done by the four performers, I actually find myself singing to the songs. I have a 5 disc changer at home, and have the original album in the first position followed by this tribute to Velvet Revolver. My ONLY complaint is that I kinda wished that they had someone play a little percussion for each song (ex: the string quartet tribute to guns n roses). But that's entirely okay. It's easy to make the rythem of each song. In fact, there is an awesome slide performed at the beginning of "Headspace" that I didn't know could be done by a violin. There's a treat at the end of the album, a song called .50 calliber, written by the director of the string quartet. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
How AWESOME !!!!!!!.......2005-07-18
This is so freakin' cool! I am a HUGE fan of Velvet Revolver and I play violin in my High School's Ochestra. I would have never thought of a string group even attempting to play Velvet Revolver.
I was searching Velvet Revolver to read some of their reviews for fun, and when I scrolled to the bottom of the screen I saw this CD. I played all of the samples. I was amazed at how well these people played the songs. They sound exactly like Velvet Revolver (except for the obvious fact that they play different instruments)!!!!!!!
I am going to buy this CD as soon as I pay off my debt to my mother for buying Velvet Revolver concert tickets online.
P.S. For anyone that cares, the concert is at Soaring Eagle Casino (Mt. Pleasent,MI) on Aug. 11th.
~YOU SHOULD GO~
WHAT!?.......2005-02-08
you've got to be kidding me. THEY ONLY HAVE ONE ALBUM RELEASED!!!! how do you release a tribute album this early in the frickin' game?

Album Description
Ernst Bacon was one of that pioneering generation of composers, along with Thomson, Copland, Harris and others, who found a voice for American music. Born in Chicago on May 26, 1898, his Austrian mother gave him a love of song and an early start on the piano. Although his varied career included appearances as pianist and conductor, along with teaching and directing positions, his deepest preoccupation was always composing. His musical awards included a Pulitzer Fellowship in 1932 for his Symphony in D Minor and three Guggenheim Fellowships.
As a composer, Bacon belonged to no school and followed no fads. He was largely self-taught in composition, except for two years study with Karl Weigl in Vienna in the early '20s. While there, he experienced the depression of post-war Europe first hand and concluded that the European avant-garde movement, reflecting the pessimism of that era and region, was not appropriate to America. Returning to Chicago, he set out to write music that expressed the vitality and affirmation of our own country.
At the age of nineteen, while majoring in mathematics at Northwestern University, Bacon wrote a complex treatise exploring all possible harmonies, which was published by The Open Court Publishing Company (Our Musical Idiom, The Monist, October 1917). However, when he began to compose music in his twenties, he rejected a cerebral approach, taking the position that music is an art, not a science. He felt that its source should be intuitive and imaginative, rather than abstract and analytical.
From his first job as opera coach at the Eastman School in the mid '20s, he went on to receive a master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley and to teach at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music under Ernest Bloch. During
the '30s he was director of the WPA Federal Music Project and Orchestra in San Francisco and was a founder of the Carmel Bach Festival. From 1938 to 1945 he headed the School of Music at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, where he established the New Spartanburg Music Festival. At Syracuse University, he was director of the School of Music from 1945 to 1947 and composer-in-residence and professor of piano until his retirement in 1963.
In 1964 he returned to the West, settling in the small town of Orinda, California, east of the Berkeley hills. Here, as everywhere else, he drew his greatest inspiration from nature, jotting down notes as he explored local trails. His fertile imagination and constant creative efforts left little time for self-promotion, and although nearly blind in old age, he continued to compose until the very end of his ninety-one years.
Throughout his long career, Ernst Bacon's chief aim as a composer was to express the spirit of America in music as Whitman, Emerson, Melville and others had done in literature. He was deeply immersed in our country's history and folklore, as well as its indigenous music; and was inspired by the poetry, folk songs, jazz rhythms and geography of America as well as the landscape itselfwhich he hiked, climbed and also painted. All of these elements found their way into his music.
Those who influenced Bacon included Carl Sandburg, Thornton Wilder and Roland Hayes. Bacon's music expresses the common touch and humor of Sandburg; the profound simplicity of Wilder; and the melodic beauty that Roland Hayes expressed so movingly in his singing. As with Schubert, a large body of more than 250 art songs is the heart of an oeuvre that also includes numerous chamber, orchestral and choral works, as well as descriptive pieces for piano.
In 1998 numerous vocal-chamber concerts of Bacon's music were held in honor of his centennial. These events took place at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City; the Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Coolidge Auditorium at the Library of Congress; the Free Library of Philadelphia; Syracuse, New York; Evanston and Chicago, Illinois; also in Berkeley and Waln
