Maybe the best Mozart recital in the market........2003-09-05

This is a great Mozart recital, but maybe it's very short. Spanish soprano María Bayo sings arias from "Don Giovanni", "Idomeneo" and "Zaide". She also sings two concert arias ("Voi avete un cor fedele" and "Ah, lo previdi") and "Exultate Jubilate". Her voice is tender, beautiful, big... A dream! and she has a very good tecnic.
Víctor Pablo Pérez conducts very well his Galician Symphony Orchrestra (maybe the best spanish orchrestra of the moment) and this cds is finally a really must-have. Don't miss it!!

Finally, someone who KNOWS how to use her voice..........2002-07-12

Until I heard this, Mozart's concert arias had never received a great deal of attention from me. But this CD has changed that. Not only is María Bayo technicality superb, but there is a haunting, sensual quality to her tone which tugs at you.
The most remarkable aspect of her voice, however, is her complete control of and subtlety in her vibrato. Unlike most classically trained vocalists, she does not use a pedantic vibrato irrespective of the text being sung. With constant sensitivity, María shapes her phrases like an instrumentalist: making the most of dynamics, tonal variation, and context. Indeed, I find it hard to concentrate on other things while this disc is playing in the background.

This was my first introduction to her, but I have since acquired almost every recording she has made to date. I strongly recommend this recording.

An exquisitely beautiful voice.......1999-03-26

Maria Bayo has a fresh, agile soprano voice. Her timbre best resembles light sopranos like Kathleen Battle and Heidi Grant Murphy.

"Ruhe sanft" is sung with gleaming tone and expressive sweetness. Her coloratura is accurate and precise.

"Batti, batti" comes off very well. It has just the perfect mixture of coy flirtation and gentle pleading.

"Zeffiretti lusingheiri" is my favorite selection on the disc. Bayo's crystal clear voice is ideal for the role of Ilia. Bayo's interpretation is filled with wistful longing, sweet ardor, and touching sadness.

Bayo handles the two difficult concert arias with graceful ease. In "Ah, lo previdi," she fills her delicate voice with pathos. "Voi avete un cor fedele" is sung with a sense of merry mischief.

"Exultate Jubilate" is intelligently sung, concluding with a brilliant "Alleluia."

My only quibble with Bayo is her somewhat awkward habit of sliding or scooping into notes. Thankfully, it's something that she does infrequently.

Lovely Voice.......2004-05-07

I love this recording! Maria Bayo's voice is exquisite! Her tone is pure with no vibrato: perfect for Mozart. I love her effortless trills! I bought this recording simply for the aria, Ruhe Sanft. What a spectacular but low-key performance of that lovely piece. Ms. Bayo's voice is soft and not overbearing and allows the simple lullaby to simply flow. Her voice is natural and sweet. The Exultate Jubilate is also very well performed. The orchestra is also very good and provides a good background for the arias. Very well recorded. I would love to hear this stunning soprano in more Mozart!

Maria Bayo's voice is one of the best I have heard. I was first introduced to her through my oboe teacher, Humbert Lucarelli. He heard a recording in a record store and was so excited by her voice and musicality that he rushed out of the store and tripped on the curb, bruising his face and breaking his glasses. He basically fell head-over-heels for her. This recording is a fantastic example of the clarity and intelligence that Bayo brings to the music. The CD is a bit on the short side, but the quality more than makes up for it. A must have for any collection.
