Editorial Reviews
Album Description
With each stroke of the keys, the piano evokes nature to bend to its will. The wind, the trees, the oceans and seas fall into the spell of its majestic sounds; nature stands still in order to listen. Each note that is released is a step towards the greatest dance of souls. Dr. Charles Phillips interpretations of Ludovic Lamothes inspirations are unique. His vision allows him to be a conductor of the calmness it provokes within. The music tells a story of joy, mystic, complication, and love. As the piano keys submit to the masterful movements of the fingers, the notes invade the auditory track to evoke relentless visions unique to the individual. This magical journey takes us to a place only a few ever dare to travel. The Music of The Haitian Masters brought us to the hidden doorway in which dwelled some of Haitis undiscovered treasures; however, this release is but a glimpse of one of the rarest jewels ever unearthed. Priceless as it may be, legendary will it become. Come, close your eyes, the journey can only be taken by your soul; for, the physical can only go so far.

Customer Reviews:
Your performances of these jewels are really exquisite!.......2002-01-14
Dear Charles, Your performances of these jewels are really exquisite! Your dynamic control---shadings, as well as different levels going on at once---is really good! Also, your rhythmic control makes things sound so spontaneous, from the unexpected arpeggios in the first piece to the Hispanic rhythms in some of the other pieces. The lovely melodies all float, beautifully contoured, wherever they happen to be in the musical texture. These pieces are quite a discovery! I am reminded a little of Mompou, of course. What some French (as I recall) critic wrote on one of his recorded albums could easily be said of Lamothe: "The music of Mompou is like a forgotten melody played upon a rotted flute, accompanied by a single cymbal, rouged with rust." Of course, that is one Frenchman's way (think soft, ripe, fragrant cheese!) of attempting to evoke an atmosphere of refined decadence and an elegance too exquisite for a simple description! Bravo! May there be more to come! I also enjoyed briefly visiting IFA's Web site and listening around a bit. All best wishes for the best year ever in 2002. Thomas (in Charlotte, North Carolina)"
Surprised to learn about the Haitian Composer.......2001-12-26
"I shared your CD with the family--everyone liked it and was surprised to learn about the Haitian Composer. Do you have any other CD's on the market?
If so I would like to order them and have them for my family reunion in
July."

Hi Charles, I guess it is a common story to you regarding the quality of your CD. I think it is VERY WELL DONE and wonderful to listen to. I only received it yesterday, 13 days after the order, and I hope it is because they were processing thousands of orders. You have a tremendous talent Charles, I am proud of and for you. Good luck on future endeavors and if the quality of future work is equal to this effort, luck will not be a part of the equation. If you are keeping score, I am particularly impressed with track 3, 5, 12 and 11 in order of preference. That is not taking anything from the other tracks, but these strike my chords. Good Luck,
Great and powerful music.......2001-11-09

Hi Charles, I have intended to send a note before now but time seems to have slipped away and I don't know where it has gone! We did receive the CD and have played it over and over. We have had friends come by while it is playing and ask, "what is that playing"? You sure do have a style that is easy to listen to. I am not a music critic and know nothing about it except for what I like. I like your CD! Marty comes from a musical family and she was impressed. Thanks for telling me about it. Dear Charles, I received your CD on Monday. I have been enjoying it immensely. It is so beautiful. My favorite piece is "Valse de Concert in Ab Major", but they are all so wonderful. I can't immagine what it must feel like to be able to write in music what a gifted writer struggles to capture in words and then the talent it takes to make that written page come to life for the rest of us to enjoy!! Congratulations on such a wonderful success. Lisa (Michigan)
