Charles Koechlin: La course de printemps, Op. 95; Le buisson ardent, Op. 203 & 171
Editorial Reviews
Gramophone - March 2003
I cannot think of another CD which would make a better introduction to Koechlin's exotic sound-world
Album Description
EDITORS CHOICE in the April issue of GRAMOPHONE! La course de printemps (The Spring Running) comes from the series of "Jungle Book" tone poems, and is given a joyous reading from Holliger and his musicians. Le buisson ardent (The Burning Bush) is a two-part tone poem and includes a prominent part for Ondes Martenot and has nothing to do with the Bible. Rather, it's based on Romain Rolland's novel, Jean-Christophe--not that this matters particularly when listening to the music. Koechlin's music thrives on a curious mixture of the ancient (modally-tinged themes) and modern (free use of dissonance and advanced orchestral technique), and if this particular combination whets your appetite, you will find this disc very enjoyable.
Charles Koechlin: La course de printemps, Op. 95; Le buisson ardent, Op. 203 & 171, Music, Charles Koechlin, Heinz Holliger, SWR Radio-sinfonieorchester Stuttgart, 20th/21st Century Orchestral Music, Classical, Classical Composers, Orchestral, Orchestral & Symphonic, Orchestral Music
