The Vibrant Violin Of Dr. N. Rajam

Editorial Reviews
Album Description
T.N. Krishnan has been the principal of the Carnatic Music College, Chennai, for several years and is presently the head of the department of Music at Delhi University. He employs the "Gayaka" style of playing creating the impression that the violin is singing like a vocalist. Along with this go his fidelity to "Shruthi" and "Laya" and his perfection of bowing that leave the listener bound buy the spell of pure " Nada"

Having developed her talents through years of practice Dr. Raajam emerged with a new concept of instrumentation. Through the artistic association and guidance of Pandit Om Karnath Thakur, she was encouraged to pursue this experimentation. After 15 years of research, she developed new techniques for fingering and bowing that now allow musicians to portray the full amount of the vocal aspect of Hindustani music. Her innovative artistry is especially appreciated in Jugalbandi (duet) concerts with Ustad Bismillah Khan playing the shenai, always climaxing in excitement and a blaze of glory.

Since his New York debut accompanying Pandit Ravi Shankar in 1970, Zakir Hussains gifted playing of the tabla has been in constant demand throughout the world. Such a talent, as one may suspect is the usual artistic development of a child prodigy. He is the son of the world famous percussion wizard Ustad Alla Rakha.

A taste of the North and South. Two very different systems of Indian Music presented together in this recording to enable the listener to cultivate a better understanding and appreciation of the two spheres of the Indian Musical World.
