Daniel Barenboim and the Berlin Philharmonic recorded a cycle of the Mozart Piano Concertos for Teldec in the 1990's. These critically acclaimed readings in which Barenboim conducts from the piano are considered among the finest available recordings of this repertoire.

Behind the scenes.......2007-03-09

Since seeing the movie regarding his wife Stephanie Du Prez, I felt I needed to listen to this man through his piano interpretation. Mozart proved to be his forte, showing the talent and sensitivity this man carries in his life. I have respect for Borenboim and his interpretation of the Mozart Concertos.

Recordings of depth and guts.......2006-02-25

This set is even finer than Barenboims earlier cycle with the ECO, which is also excellent. The sound is crisper, and the performances radiate joy and exuberance. If you want Mozart played in a romantic style but without oversentimentality, this is the set for you.

Barenboim still falls short of understanding the Mozart Concertos.......2005-12-13

Barenboim released his first cycle of the concertos with EMI between the 60's and 70's. So some thirty years later he decides to play the whole cycle again. It was mediocre back then, and it is mediocre now. From listening to Barenboim play in some of his other CDs, Barenboim is no more than a bombastic and mediocre pianist at best. The 20th and 23, which are two of my favourite concertos, are played here really without any input of his own...very cold and emotionless readings devoid of any personality. You would expect 30 years later a musician would've matured, and would be able to produce a much more intimate sound.
These readings are nothing compared to the Uchida/Tate or Geza Anda sets. Look elsewhere...the best part of this set was the DVD, the Concerto for 2 pianos in D with Solti.
