Natan Brand in Concert, 1982-1990: The Legacy, Vol. 1
Editorial Reviews
Album Description
Israeli-born Natan Brand (1944-1990) was one of the few keyboard artists perhaps the last in the true tradition of Anton Rubinstein: a pianist who played in the Grand Style, fully free to interpret the masterworks as the spirit moved him, with a magnificent technique at his command. His premature death at the age of 46 robbed the music world of a man who was considered by many connoisseurs to be potentially one of the worlds greatest pianists. That he was not so recognized was due to his mercurial temperament (which did him little good in the world of concerts and bookings) and his early death. There has been only one previous CD release of this phenomenal artists work. This two-CD set is thus a priceless document sure to be snapped up by any devotee of great piano performance. These private tapes from various live venues from 1982 to 1990 are published here for the first time under the supervision of pianist Geoffrey Dorfman, a Brand pupil. Dorfman provides the fascinating essay included in the album, telling the story of the life and art of this singular musician.
